The Business of Being Yourself with Tiffany Han (formerly Raise Your Hand Say Yes)

Everyone wants to teach women how to build businesses, but almost nobody is talking about the woman doing the building. But after 16 years in business and nearly 3 million podcast downloads, I’ve become convinced of something: You are the best asset your business has.

Which means that who you are, how you show up, what you believe, and what brings you to life are the business-building tools we *need* to be talking about. In this weekly-ish show, I explore ambition, creativity, visibility, reinvention, delight, and the messy, ongoing work of becoming more yourself on purpose. Because being who you are isn’t something you do after you’ve made it, it’s what makes everything else possible.

Ep. 317: Those Things I've Gotten Wrong: A Very Incomplete List May 19, 2020
    Show notes

This week, I'm taking a walk down memory lane to look at the things I've gotten wrong (some WAAAAAY wrong) in the past 5.5 years of doing this podcast.

You'll hear my revelations on risk, self-care and burnout, tackling big goals, pleasure, and how everything (annoyingly so!!) starts at home. (I'll also share what I mean by that!)

Aaaaand you'll hear me talk about why I'm comfortable sharing this list and what I'm doing about these revelations. Because this learning is part of the process and just because I've gotten things wrong in the past doesn't mean I can't keep going and bring my learning along with me!

    Episode Quotes

"We cannot just say YES to the risk without also saying YES to the reverence."

"There is something really beautiful about realizing that you are stronger without the shield of all the things you've convinced yourself make you stronger."

"Self-care is a daily and ongoing devotion to yourself and the things you want to do."

"Pleasure and delight are not frivolous."

"The things that you want to do all starts with YOU and how are you showing up to yourself."

"It's not about what you are doing, it's about who are you being."

"The fix may not be quick, may not be comfortable, but it is available. Are you willing to show up anyway?"

    Timestamps

07:45—What I got wrong about embracing risks

    20:07—Rethinking Self-care & Burnout

30:08—The value of going deeper (and what I'd missed before!)

36:47—Confession: I'm a bit of a 'ping-ponger' (and the value of holding your course)

40:04—Everything starts at home...and how you can apply this learning to your life!

Ep. 316: Laura Jane Williams on Keeping Secrets, Feeling Feelings, and Loving Interrogations May 12, 2020
    Show notes

I’m so excited to chat again with Laura Jane Williams. She was one of my lovely guests over a year ago when I was doing my Money, Sex, Freedom series, where we talked about worth, parenting, and some sex stuff too.

In this episode, you’ll hear us talking about writing, being an author, LJ’s books ‘Our Stop’ and ‘The Love Square’, social media and friendships, how unplugging from Instagram allowed her to like her friends more and be a better friend, Instagram boundaries, telling the truth about your life, and permission to feel pleasure and delight.

Ep. 315: Tilly Walnes on (Super!) Simple Starts, Returning to Yourself, and Cutting the Onion May 05, 2020
    Show notes

How do you build an entire handmade clothing empire out of a New Year's Day dare? That's exactly where my conversation with Tilly Walnes, of Tilly and the Buttons, starts.

In this episode, you'll hear us talk about how she took sewing from hobby to business, how to maintain the spark for any creative endeavor, what to do if you want to make something but just cannot find the time (ahem...you'll hear me commit to something that I 100% didn't follow through on!), and how to get over the initial hurdles of getting started.

(And let me know if you want to be accountability buddies on making something from Tilly's new book!)

Ep. 314: Holly Whitaker on Quitting, Not Giving Up, and Constant Interventions Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

Ahhh, this interview y'all. There is so much goodness here. This week, I'm talking with Holly Whitaker, founder of Tempest Sobriety School and The Temper, and author of the recent "Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol." Holly also played a huge part in my decision to quit drinking, over three years ago, and I loved getting to have this conversation with her.

Even though we recorded pre-coronavirus, everything we talked about is relevant to where we are today. You'll hear us cover pivotal life moments, why sometimes feeling guilty is okay, how to decide what you owe yourself vs what you owe others, non-linear paths of learning, and why you might need to live in a way that allows you to have constant interventions.

We also talk about why it's okay not to be okay and how showing up is part of the healing.

Ep. 313: Values, Sliding Doors, and Permission Right Now Apr 21, 2020
    Show notes

This week, I'm going behind the scenes of all my values talk to show you what values look like in action in our lives. Right now. During the COVID-19 pandemic. Yep. Even then.

You'll also get to hear me tell two different versions of how I could be showing up right now (it's my Sliding Doors moment!): one that involves chasing the values I'm "supposed" to want: success and family. And another that looks like aligning myself with my personal #1 value: integrity. It's a journey!

    Enjoy, enjoy!

Ep. 312: My 9-minute Daily Grounding Ritual Apr 14, 2020
    Show notes

This week, I'm sharing my favorite 9-minute grounding ritual. I've been doing this (imperfectly) since February and I'm finding it incredibly useful to help me stay focused and grounded these days.

Enjoy, enjoy and if you benefit from this practice (or your own variation of it!), please let me know! I'd love to hear about your experience with it!

Ep. 311: Lacy Young on Presence, Self-Compassion, and the Shower Floor Apr 07, 2020
    Show notes

What we're currently exploring is how you can Be Your Own Anchor in times of great uncertainty. Which...yes. That's where we are right now. (But it's also where we've always been, just with different specifics.)

This week, I'm talking with my dear friend and teacher, Lacy Young. You'll hear us talk about living with (and in) overwhelm, a very different definition of thriving than what we've been taught it should look like, how to ground yourself when you're in a spin, and what we can learn from wildflowers and melting ice.

We also cover: anxiety, self-compassion, identity, caretaking without losing yourself, and finding your own voice and power in the midst of all the chaos.

Ep. 310: A story about agency. (And a reminder that this is not normal.) Mar 31, 2020
    Show notes

Today's episode includes my thoughts about where we all find ourselves, why slowing down is more critical than ever right now (and how it can lead to more productivity than you realize!), and a story about the doubt and uncertainty that can show up when you speak up for something you need.

There's also an invitation to live from a place that doesn't create resentment (yay!!) as well as to think about what you can practice now to bring into your post-Coronavirus life.

PS. YOU ARE DOING GREAT AND I LOVE YOU. KEEP GOING.
