155: Trauma, Death, Tragedy and How To Deal: Turning Your Pain and Adversity Into Power Mar 09, 2023
    Show notes

Life is full of unexpected events and circumstances, some of which can be incredibly challenging and difficult to deal with. However, it's not the events themselves that define us, but rather how we choose to respond to them. Our reactions to the things that happen to us are what shape our character and determine our level of resilience.

When we face adversity, we have a choice: we can either allow ourselves to be overwhelmed and defeated, or we can rise to the challenge and find a way to move forward. Those who choose the latter path often emerge from difficult situations stronger and more resilient than before. One important factor in how we respond to adversity is our mindset. People who have a growth mindset - that is, they believe that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work - are more likely to view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. They are more likely to persevere in the face of difficulty and to bounce back quickly from setbacks.

Another important factor is our support network. Having people in our lives who can offer emotional support, practical help, and guidance can make all the difference when we are dealing with difficult times.

Ultimately, it is up to us to choose how we respond to the challenges that life throws our way. While we can't always control what happens to us, we can control how we react to it. By cultivating a positive mindset, seeking out support when we need it, and embracing the opportunities for growth that adversity can provide, we can become stronger and more resilient individuals.

    Show notes

Exercise during pregnancy has many benefits for both the mother and the developing fetus! Regular exercise can help to improve overall health, reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy and delivery, and support a faster recovery postpartum. However, it is important to follow certain guidelines and precautions to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. You always want to consult your doctor first, but trust your Burn trainers have your best interest at heart and will always provide modifications to best suit your needs.

We're going to touch on all the common questions you have when it comes to exercising safely when you're trying to get pregnant, during your pregnancy, and postpartum. We're going to touch on diastasis recti (abdominal separation) and coning, core stabilization, pregnancy modifications during camp, nausea, hypertension, gestational diabetes, the 20-week mark, iron deficiency anemia, depression, anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure, placenta previa, and preeclampsia.

    Benefits of Exercise during Pregnancy:

    1. Improved cardiovascular health: Exercise during pregnancy can help to strengthen the heart and improve circulation, which is essential for supporting the growing fetus.
    2. Reduced risk of gestational diabetes: Regular exercise can help to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of developing gestational diabetes.
    3. Better mood and reduced stress: Exercise is a natural mood booster and can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which are common during pregnancy.
    4. Improved strength and flexibility: Exercise during pregnancy can help to maintain muscle strength and flexibility, which can make it easier to carry the extra weight and prepare for labor.

    Guidelines for Exercise during Pregnancy:

    1. Consult with your healthcare provider: Before starting an exercise program, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure that it is safe for you and your baby.
    2. Choose low-impact activities: Activities such as walking, swimming, yoga, and cycling are typically safe and effective for pregnant women.
    3. Avoid high-intensity exercises: High-intensity exercises and contact sports should be avoided during pregnancy as they can increase the risk of injury or complications.
    4. Stay hydrated: Pregnant women should aim to drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercise to stay hydrated.
    5. Listen to your body: It is important to listen to your body and not push yourself too hard during exercise. If you experience any discomfort, pain, or bleeding, stop exercising and consult with your healthcare provider.

In summary, exercise during pregnancy can provide many benefits for both mother and baby. However, it is important to follow the guidelines and precautions outlined by your healthcare provider to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy.

152: Strength Training for Women: Everything You Need To Know With Morgan Kline Mar 06, 2023
    Show notes

On today's episode with Morgan, you'll hear about women and strength training. The benefits, the how to, how to get started, and the positive impact it has on every stage of life.

Strength training is beneficial for women for several reasons:

    1. Improved muscular strength and endurance: Regular strength training exercises can increase muscle strength and endurance, allowing women to perform daily tasks more easily and with less fatigue.
    2. Increased bone density: Strength training has been shown to increase bone density, which is especially important for women who are at a higher risk for osteoporosis.
    3. Improved body composition: Strength training can help women build lean muscle mass and reduce body fat, resulting in a more toned and defined physique.
    4. Boosted metabolism: Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue, so strength training can increase metabolism and help women maintain a healthy weight.
    5. Reduced risk of injury: Strong muscles and bones can help reduce the risk of injury during physical activity or in everyday life.
    6. Improved mental health: Exercise, including strength training, has been shown to have positive effects on mental health by reducing stress and anxiety, boosting mood, and improving sleep.

It's important for women to incorporate strength training into their exercise routine to reap these benefits. Women can start with bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, or light weights and gradually increase the weight and intensity as they progress. A qualified fitness professional can help women develop a safe and effective strength training program tailored to their goals and fitness level.

150: What Is IV Hydration and Vitamin Therapy and Does It Really Work? | An Interview With Hydrate and More Mar 04, 2023
    Show notes

On today's episode, we're diving into a popular conversation with one of our brand's partners: Hydrate and More. They offer IV hydration therapy, also known as intravenous hydration therapy, is a medical treatment in which a saline solution is administered directly into a patient's bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line. This therapy is typically used to treat dehydration and replenish fluids lost due to illness, exercise, or other factors.

IV vitamin therapy, also known as intravenous vitamin therapy, is a treatment in which vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are delivered directly into the patient's bloodstream through an IV line. This therapy is often marketed as a way to boost energy, improve immunity, and treat various health conditions.

Both IV hydration therapy and IV vitamin therapy are administered by a healthcare professional and require a prescription. While IV hydration therapy is a standard medical treatment for dehydration, IV vitamin therapy is not a widely accepted medical treatment, and its effectiveness has not been extensively studied in clinical trials. Some people may choose to receive IV vitamin therapy as a complementary or alternative treatment, but it is important to speak with a healthcare provider before undergoing any medical treatment.

146: Gut Health, Cycle Syncing and the Anabolic Window | Trainer Talk With Devan Kline and Luke Smith Feb 28, 2023
    Show notes

Devan Kline, Co-Founder & Visionary, and Luke Smith, Fitness Specialist at Burn Boot Camp are back for another installment of Trainer Talk! Masters of their craft and the true engineers of the fitness product at Burn Boot Camp, these men are breaking down the how, why and what to achieving your fitness goals.

    GUT HEALTH

Gut health refers to the overall health and well-being of the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine (colon). The gastrointestinal tract is responsible for digestion, absorption of nutrients, and elimination of waste products from the body.

Gut health is determined by the balance of microorganisms that reside in the gut, collectively known as the gut microbiome. The gut microbiome plays an important role in the digestive process and also has a significant impact on overall health, including the immune system, brain function, and metabolism. When the gut microbiome is imbalanced, it can lead to a variety of health problems such as gastrointestinal issues, autoimmune disorders, and mental health problems. Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome requires a balanced diet rich in fiber, probiotics, and prebiotics, as well as avoiding excessive use of antibiotics and minimizing stress.

Common signs of poor gut health include abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. Maintaining good gut health is important for overall health and well-being, and can be achieved through a combination of healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and stress management.

    CYCLE SYNCING

Cycle syncing is a term used to describe the practice of adjusting one's diet, exercise, and self-care routine to align with the different phases of the menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle is divided into four phases: menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, and luteal.

During each phase, hormone levels fluctuate, affecting energy levels, appetite, and mood. By adjusting one's diet and exercise routine to match these changes, it is believed that one can optimize health and well-being.

    ANABOLIC WINDOW

The anabolic window refers to the period of time after a workout during which it is believed that the body is more receptive to nutrients that promote muscle growth and repair. Specifically, it is thought that consuming a meal or supplement containing protein and carbohydrates within 30-60 minutes after exercise can enhance muscle protein synthesis and improve recovery.

The theory behind the anabolic window is that exercise causes microtrauma to muscle fibers, which stimulates the production of new muscle proteins. Consuming protein and carbohydrates shortly after exercise provides the necessary nutrients for this process to occur, leading to increased muscle growth and faster recovery.
