EPISODE 27: 87 Years Worth of Wisdom... Sep 20, 2021

Show notes

In today‘s episode, Cecily interviews her Grandma, who really isn‘t even sure what a podcast is. The conversation really gets rolling once Grandma gets used to the microphone. The Boom Clap Podcast is about values, and many of our recent episodes have focused hard on controversial current events and how our values shape how we think about them and function in culture. Today, we‘re slowing it down and looking to the past to glean wisdom for the future. We talk about: + Pioneer life in the early 1900‘s + Marriage and Parenting + Losing a child + Living Through War + Advice for today‘s generation + Legacy + Tragedy and Joy + Trusting God + Living With Purpose https://www.instagram.com/cecily.dickey/ https://www.instagram.com/ritarogersco/

EPISODE 26: Live Not By Lies Sep 13, 2021

Show notes

In this episode, the essay Live Not By Lies by Alexander Solzhenitsyn is read and discussed. Rita and Cecily have both become fascinated by the life and writings of this man, and they applied many current events to his thoughts. Much can be learned from history and those who have been through things that we have not. This is amongst our most passionate of episodes as we commit to live not by lies, but fully in truth. https://www.instagram.com/cecily.dickey/ https://www.instagram.com/ritarogersco/ https://honestyculture.com/alexander-solzhenitsyn-live-not-by-lies/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samizdat

EPISODE 25: Orwell vs. Huxley: Which Dystopia Will It Be? Sep 06, 2021

Show notes

Orwell feared a world of external oppression, and Huxley a world of internal oppression. Orwell feared the things we hate would rule us, Huxley feared it would be the things we love. In this episode, we dissect the 2 different visions of a dystopic future. We chat about the influences of each that we see in our current culture, & consider whether a utopia could ever be achieved using either of these methods. What does it really take to hold people captive? Fear? Or ever-growing passivity? https://www.instagram.com/cecily.dickey/ https://www.instagram.com/ritarogersco/ https://www.huxley.net/utopian-dystopian.pdf https://www.openculture.com/2018/08/aldous-huxley-george-orwell-hellish-vision-future-better-1949.html https://highexistence.com/amusing-ourselves-to-death-huxley-vs-orwell/ https://www.learning-mind.com/mental-slavery-orwell-huxley/ http://www.andrewcusack.com/2021/huxley-orwell/

EPISODE 24: Calculated Division Aug 30, 2021

Show notes

Is the division we're feeling natural? Or is it instigated and fanned into an ever-growing flame by the media and the elites? Piggy-backing off last week's episode, Elites & Innocents, we peel back the layers of the metastasizing division that is plaguing our communities, our nations, and our world. We talk about how the media holds our attention with sensational and focused reporting, how groups of people are pitted against each other, and how embracing segregation fuels increased division. We also focus on practical applications for the Christian navigating these tricky times as we do our best to lead with love and seek unity in the body of Christ, which comes from knowledge of the Son of God. https://www.instagram.com/ritarogersco/ https://www.instagram.com/cecily.dickey/ https://nypost.com/2019/06/25/its-our-elites-who-are-driving-americas-divisions/

EPISODE 23: The Elites & The Innocents Aug 23, 2021

Show notes

Is there a group of people trying to make society in its own image? And is there a group of people who are swayed by the positive-sounding (yet deceptive) message of the first group? In this episode, we talk about the elites that enjoy power and wealth, the systems that help keep them in that position and the innocent, well-meaning people who play into their agenda. We also talk about the cost & realities of poverty and examine how "philanthropy" is often used as a smoke-screen for gaining more wealth and power. https://www.instagram.com/cecily.dickey/ https://www.instagram.com/ritarogersco/ https://truthunmuted.org/bill-gates-and-neo-feudalism-a-closer-look-at-farmer-bill/ https://inequality.org/great-divide/americas-billionaires-borrowing-their-way-to-ever-more-fabulous-fortunes/https://nonprofitquarterly.org/chan-zuckerberg-llc-are-no-tax-breaks-plus-no-accountability-good-for-the-public/ https://chanzuckerberg.com/ https://inequality.org/great-divide/chuck-collins-in-the-nation-the-perils-of-billionaire-philanthropy/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/new-bill-would-give-donor-advised-funds-deadlines-for-distributing-billions-of-dollars-to-charities/ar-AAKWmw5 https://borgenproject.org/how-much-does-it-cost-to-end-poverty/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterjreilly/2015/12/04/what-is-with-this-chan-zuckerberg-llc-thing-tax-geeks-speak/?sh=15e9ab6667b8

We discuss the topic bio-digital convergence, and its impact on humans, nature, the way we live our lives, and how it reconciles with a Christian worldview. Rita is flying solo on this episode as she talks about mandates and declinations. This is not just for nurses (so don't skip this!), and that short description only scratches the surface of what she brings in this episode. https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/waht-you-should-know-workplace-religious-accomodation https://www.icandecide.org https://www.instagram.com/p/CGYZLsAJyRa/?utm_medium=copy_link https://aclj.org/
