148: Hey OCD, there's much more to me! ~Pamela's Story~
May 17, 2022
“Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions). “
It is also the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed of the perinatal disorders (I am typing this after learning that for the first time!).
So many of us have different stories, different background, different challenges that are unique to us as an individual. In this week’s podcast episode, Pamela shares her perinatal OCD diagnosis, struggling with it while pregnant and postpartum, and ultimately her treatment and healing. While we all carry our own story, it is our hope with this episode, that you feel validated, supported, and loved in your thoughts. And mostly, if you are in the midst of struggling, we hope you are able to find help and heal.
147: Global Warming: How We Can Help as a Family at Home!
May 10, 2022
Global warming is a hugely urgent issue that needs our attention all year round. And while it may seem that our efforts would be futile for such an important cause, that’s not the case at all! What’s more is, we can help do our part right here in our homes, and in our own backyards!
This week on the podcast, Lauren is joined by high school science teacher, Karen, who has a passion for environmental sciences. Karen shares all about her devotion to saving the planet and how this can begin right at home with planting responsibly. As Karen discusses, this refers to planting native plants; the main benefit is that their roots can be as deep as 20 feet under the ground and in planting this, it helps to store and sequester carbon. How fascinating is this!? And, an added piece of fun for the kids involved, is that these plants help support populations of native butterflies and native bees. How cool that all of this has such an empowering trickle effect on our world? :)
Karen shares her wealth of knowledge on how we can all do our part - and a remarkable piece of information is in how we eat! Did you know that eating lower on the food chain is more sustainable and better for the Earth? Buying things that are more environmentally friendly is better for your pocket and the planet - so, wins all around!
It was truly awe-inspiring to hear you detail how you dedicate so much heart and time into saving our planet, Karen! Thank you for not only doing your part but for empowering and educating so many others to do so as well - it is astounding to witness such passion for an incredible cause!
This episode was one for the books, and is right on time as we all head out to buy our plants for the year. The best time for planting native plants is now, so let’s go team!
Thank you so much Karen, we absolutely loved having you on the podcast!
146: Skills Before Thrills: All About Water Safety for Kids!
May 03, 2022
“Self-rescue skills before swimming pool thrills!”
May is Water Safety month and we are so excited and honored to share a special interview with two phenomenal women who advocate, empower and educate everyday to help save lives. Nicole Doig-Maguire and Liz Huber join the podcast this week; not only do these two women have an extraordinary gift in helping serve and educate others with their compassion and expertise, they are kick ass BOSS ladies that have dedicated their lives to creating professions with the most incredible mission. Nikki is an ISR instructor teaching self-rescue skills for infants and children all over the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago. Liz is the Founder and director for the CAST Water Safety Foundation, an organization that increases access to self-rescue lessons and empowers families and communities to create strong water safety strategies.
If you look on the CDC website you will see the stark and terrifying words: “More children ages 1-4 die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects.” Did those words cast a shudder? It’s a horrible truth. This is why water safety awareness is so urgent. Drowning is preventable and can happen to anyone; that’s why self-rescue skills are of the utmost importance. As CAST states, “Drowning is preventable, and this prevention relies on families and communities working together.”
That’s why we are here to today to share and educate — we are all in this together.
While ISR lessons may seem intimidating at first, you’ll quickly hear why they are so important and necessary - and, special. It provides not only the skills children need, but also instills a confidence, security and undeniable sportsmanship.
The entire ISR experience and community is pretty remarkable, just like these two ladies. We are so honored to have them on the podcast this week and we hope that their informative conversation provides helpful resources for you and your family.
Nikki and Liz, thank you thank YOU for all that you do for children and families everywhere. You two have hearts of gold and an astounding dedication to helping others, and we’re so thankful for all you do!! The world is safer with you two in it :)
This week Julie shares about marriage after children. It’s not always easy to maintain a relationship where you put your partner first, but she talks about how she and her husband have worked through the hard to be able to enjoy the good.

In honor of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we are so grateful and honored to have a very special guest on the podcast this week!
Ashton is a fellow mama friend of ours and a woman that truly epitomizes “resilience.” Mama to 3, Ashton is a tough-as-nails mama and wife, who has worked hard at everything in life; most importantly, in her recovery. Struggling with body image and negative relationships with food from an early age, Ashton shares how her eating disorder consumed a lot of her adolescence into adulthood. She explains that this exact journey has inspired her to instill a healthy, mindful relationship with food and body positivity, with her own children.
“How blessed am I to change the narrative for my daughter and sons,” Ashton said, with a thoughtful smile.
And it’s true. To experience an eating disorder is to completely have your life turned upside down — it’s about far more than the physical, and it looks at your mental and emotional state as well. And to overcome such a hurdle is so astounding; especially to overcome so much during such a delicate, fragile season of life — in motherhood.
Ashton delves further into her recovery journey, and how she uses her own education and experience to foster intuitive eating with her kids, and allowing them to be mindful with their bodies. In her recovery, Ashton has also adopted a healthy, moderate lifestyle of exercising. And this is another aspect that she highlights to her children; that it’s not about losing weight - it’s about being strong and seeing your body do great things.
Eating disorders are complicated; they’re not like other addictions — you need food to survive, you cannot abstain from food. We hope that this episode serves you well, brings you comfort, encourages you to seek help if you need it, and offers you a big warm hug if you’re craving some reassurance.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Ashton, for sharing your remarkable journey. You are unbelievably strong, courageous and empowering. We’re so thankful to know you and thankful for you sharing such a powerful story. We know many out there will feel the same way when listening.
If you or someone you know is in need of help, please call or text the NEDA Helpline: 1(800) 931-2237.
You are not alone. We love you. Xx, the Boob Broads

112: All About Toddler Play (and how screentime saves our sanity)
Jul 27, 2021
We’re back again to chat all about toddler play! So much has changed; in our children’s interests and development since we last talked about toddler play. For starters, our kids now play independently and lead the day for the most part with their play preferences. From imaginative play to lots of movement to dinosaurs — our kids are a jack of all trades when it comes to play!
Additionally, we’ve all noticed a huge difference in play since playdates have resumed — there is no toy that could bring the same amount of joy as playing with friends at the park or splashpad can!
An important thing to note; screen time is a part of our routines, and we all agree - there is no shame in this! Screentime saves lives, people. We joke, we joke. But truthfully, there is nothing wrong with some screen time sprinkled in. Not only can it teach your child strategies, problem solving, etc. on whatever device they’re playing on, it allows for mama to take a deep breath. So screentime = self-care. It all evens out.
We can’t wait to share more of how our littles have evolved in their playtime interests! Tune in to hear more!
111: Facing Fertility and Mental Health: An Interview with Dr. Lawson, Women's Health Psychologist & Associate Professor at Northwestern
Jul 20, 2021
“There’s not a lot of space for emotions when your life is revolving around blood draws, ultrasounds, needles and hormones. You don’t have time to feel.”
And that’s what fertility psychologist Dr. Lawson is there for - to provide that space for fertility patients.
This week on the podcast we are so excited to have special guest Dr. Angela Lawson join us! Dr. Lawson is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Psychiatry at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in reproductive health and sexual and other traumas. She is passionate about educating others on the topic that stress does NOT cause infertility or reproductive losses. Dr. Lawson fights fervently to bust these myths and offer comfort and validation to men and women who are struggling with infertility.
As Dr. Lawson mentions, there is a stigma surrounding infertility: the need for fertility treatments and experiencing reproductive loss. So much stigma that far too many suffer in silence while grieving the loss of an idea of how they imagined they’d grow their family. There are a lot of complexities that come into play, and Dr. Lawson sheds light on all of this.
Dr. Lawson also shares ways we can all support those who are struggling with infertility and how we can all contribute to smashing the stigma surrounding it. Additionally, Dr. Lawson discusses some of her most common coping mechanisms and treatment plans that she uses with patients. Her favorite being, the floatie analogy; and the importance of finding ways to keep our floaties full of healthy, dependable, coping resources in order to stay afloat.
Whether you have struggled with infertility or not, this is an episode that will impact you regardless. We can all use the valuable insight shared by Dr. Lawson to support the fertility community, women’s health, and to continue to educate others on such an important topic. Dr. Lawson, thank you so much sharing your incredible expertise, your compassionate heart, and extensive experience with us. It was an honor to have you on the podcast and it’s an honor to have you in this community. You are helping so many and we are so grateful that there’s a strong woman like you out there leading us.
110: Normalizing the Normal on Tiktok: Chats with Emily Jeanne
Jul 13, 2021
You all know how much we LOVE women building women up in this community. And how much we treasure women and mothers who create a safe, uplifting space for others.. so imagine how excited Julie was when she bumped into Emily Jeanne in person! Emily is a content creator, widely known for her presence on Tiktok and is passionate about normalizing the normal in motherhood and life. We are so thrilled to have Emily on the podcast this week to give us a look into her life, her motherhood struggles and triumphs, and the reality behind it all!
In this episode, Emily shares about her motherhood journey; she is married to Greg, and has two littles: Hannah and Levi. She sheds light on what prompted her to begin creating on Tiktok; with a pregnancy and delivery in the pandemic, Emily was inspired to connect with others in an otherwise very isolating and trying time. Her need to connect was what really allowed Emily to put herself out there, be real, vulnerable, and represent how fun it can be to be “wonderfully average.”
Emily discusses how Tiktok really helped her throughout her postpartum struggles; it was a great way for her to talk through difficult moments and connect with others in solidarity. She dives into why postpartum issues are so important for her to talk about on a personal level; how the pandemic completely transformed mental health issues for her and she found that speaking openly about postpartum depression is far too stigmatized - people don’t want to hear that you’re not connecting with your newborn or that you’re yelling at your toddler. But, as Emily states, this is the reality that MANY experience and it’s crucial to share in the community.
Emily always strives to be honest; she has learned to release the unrealistic pressure of having to always “be on,” and allows herself to tell her community “I’m not having a good day; I can’t make content right now but I’ll be back again soon.” Setting boundaries and honoring your needs is so important, and as Emily shares, she’s currently trying to make self-care a priority and how integral that is to a person’s overall well-being.
Emily, thank you for giving us a peek into your life, for being a strong, comforting voice for SO many, and as Julie says, the mom and role model we so desperately need in our world! Each time you share a piece of reality, something vulnerable, something hard - you are supporting another woman struggling and offering a big piece of comfort and solidarity. Thank you. We are so honored to have you here and to know such an empowering woman in the community!!!
109: Finding Comfort in the Comfort of Your Own Body: Postpartum Self-Love

So mamas, buy whatever size feels comfy. Wear what feels good for YOU. Let that self-love radiate from within and don't worry about anything else. Your body is beautiful. YOU are beautiful.

107: Mothering without a Mother: Pamela’s Story
Jun 22, 2021
Mothering without a mother — it brings on a whole new season of grief. It tests your strength and your heart. But, it can also create new relationships within your circle, new mothering figures, and, even a new relationship with yourself.
This week on the podcast, Pamela gives us a look inside her journey as she mothers without her mother. A difficult topic to say the least, but Pamela sheds light on the emotions, the grief, the cycles and the different ways she’s learned to cope.
Grief can change in different stages, different seasons, even different scenarios. Like when you find out you’re pregnant and can’t share the news with your own mom, or seeing mothers and daughters shopping together. Or when you feel robbed of these moments and memories you will never have. As Pamela mentions in this episode, it’s important to talk about all of this; it’s crucial to validate yourself and your feelings and talk about your pain. It’s not easy but it can be healing. Talking about those we love and have lost can be challenging and painful, but the more you do it, the more you feel your loved one’s presence. And, the more they still grow with us.
Tune in to hear more!

106: Pandemic Parenting Burnout: Lauren's Story
Jun 15, 2021
“You’re having a normal reaction to an abnormal experience.”
This can be said for how many parents have felt during the pandemic. In this week’s episode we take a peek inside our girl Lauren’s personal experience with pandemic parenting burnout and the toll it took on her. Combined with lack of support, lack of connections and even a lack of identity, Lauren found that her nervous system was on overload, causing her to feel these things that weren’t true at all. After a vicious cycle of: overstimulation, mom rage, losing patience, apologizing to the kids more, and a culmination of events that led to Lauren feeling unlike herself, Lauren realized and reminded herself: you can do hard things.
She had never experienced anxiety before, so having to navigate that, while processing all that had transpired in such a short period of time: moving twice, a new baby, having to stop her beloved work due to the pandemic — and doing all of this with a newborn and toddler and not much room for help, Lauren found herself needing to take baby steps through the day. While she thought she was doing her best, she was actually being a perfectionist - which leads to burnouts, anxiety and panic attacks; ultimately expecting way too much of yourself. Lauren quickly changed her narrative to, “I am a good mom, I’m just having a bad day.”
And so begun Lauren’s journey into discovering healthier ways to express her emotions and to envelop herself with things that light her up - and to remove any triggering activities. Lauren shares that creating a Plan A, B, and C was life-changing. It provided a sense of control; and allowed her to move with the ebbs and flows of life with children while still taking care of herself. Additionally, she sought help from life coach Amanda (The Bountiful Mama, Episode 101). It was then that Lauren did some serious internal work, examining her needs, and most importantly, meeting her evolved self. Lauren shares that making time to find this balance and fulfill the needs she so desperately craves has been significant in her progress.
Lauren, not many people can take a trauma and discover such powerful healing within themselves - it takes work, time, and dedication. Just like you have done, and continue to do. Thank you so so much for sharing your raw, your soul, and your heart with us. We couldn’t be more proud of the woman you are, and all you continue to do to rise up, to inspire others, and to find that light in yourself.
105: Smash the Stigma: Periods are Beautiful!
Jun 08, 2021
We’ve chatted about postpartum periods and now we’re back to dive into the first time we got our periods and our journey into womanhood. Getting your first period is a huge milestone for a young girl and you will always remember those feelings surrounding it. Maybe we didn’t talk about it enough during our adolescence, but we’re reflecting now on how important it is for the next generations to hear us speak so openly about periods. And they are not a bad, gross event. They are beautiful; a marker of an exquisite next chapter for females.
In this episode we discuss our first time getting it, our favorite memories surrounding our first period, the uncomfortable memories (many of those!), the pain, heaviness, and hormonal imbalance surrounding our cycles, and understanding (and loving) our bodies. As we wrapped up this episode, it was evident that being proud of our periods is something that can come right away, or it can come with growth and time.
Either way, we made a vow to challenge our generation to educate our babies on our bodies; no more hiding, no more discomfort —it’s time for less shame and more celebration!
104: The Good Mom: Real Motherhood, Real Life ~Chats with Abigail~
Jun 01, 2021
“Motherhood is a big, beautiful mess.”
Meet Abigail: mama to 3 kiddos, married to Michael, business owner, podcast host, content creator and cheerleader to all mothers out there. This week, Abigail, of The Good Mom Co. joins Julie on the podcast to discuss motherhood, her content and much more!
Abigail is real, raw, and honest — she not only shares her motherhood reality, but is also refreshingly transparent about her marriage as well. As Abigail shares, her overall message and why she created her social media presence, is because she saw a need for more reality on social media. And, especially in the pandemic, social media played a huge role in our lives, as our primary social outlet. Abigail mentions that it can be hard for people to consume content that is all fake and filtered, which is why she likes to be so candid; so she can help moms feel less alone. It’s important to talk about all areas of motherhood and not just the good and the perfect.
During this episode, Abigail also walks us through how she creates content and how her daily thoughts inspire many of her posts, in an effort to support and encourage others. Because of her passion for helping others feel less alone, Abigail created her business, The Good Mom Co. — with its main mantra being, “Just because you had a bad day, doesn’t mean you’re a bad mom.” Abigail shares her hope that in wearing Good Mom Co. merchandise and donning its positive affirmations for moms, that this will positively impact the wearer and bring a bit more confidence!
In talking about balancing motherhood and two jobs, Abigail, as always, keeps it real, “I don’t balance it. It’s so hard. It’s a delicate balance of chaos.” Truer words have never been said! And to hear this from a mom that we so admire and look up to is awe-inspiring!
Motherhood is incredible. But it’s also very hard, and we as mothers can be our harshest internal critics. Listening to Abigail’s empowering voice is just what every mom needs to hear. Abigail is dedicated to uplifting and encouraging mothers and we are so very grateful we get to share her voice in this episode!
Abigail, what an honor it is to have such an inspiring, strong, brave, and infectiously positive woman like you on the podcast! We are so excited to share your tremendous heart with the rest of our community and are so grateful to get to share your story. Thank you, thank you!!!
Tune in to hear more, feel a huge virtual hug, and a loving reminder… that you are a Good Mom!
103: From Daddy's Girl to Daddy's Voice: ~Sabrina's Story~
May 25, 2021
“The moment he was diagnosed I knew that I was going to be at every appointment whether he liked it or not to make sure that I knew what was going on.”
This week on the podcast we are so honored to have Sabrina as a special guest to share her journey as a mother, wife, daughter, caregiver, and advocate for ALS in honor of her late father. In this episode, Sabrina discusses the initial symptoms, the diagnosis and the confusing combination of relief and grief that come with learning this diagnosis after almost 2 years of symptoms.
Sabrina dives into the complexities of ALS; how long it takes to finally get that diagnosis and the realization of the toll it will take on your loved one. Sabrina made it her mission to be there for every thing along the way for her dad, who she affectionately calls, “Ton.” The dynamic shift in caring for a parent when you are still so young yourself is one that is difficult to manage, Sabrina shares. Especially as Sabrina was pregnant during this time, and caring for her other little one, all the while trying to be there for everyone else and grappling with anticipatory grief.
Her Ton and precious baby boy #2 were able to meet just two weeks before Ton’s passing. Of course the postpartum period is challenging enough as it is, but losing your parent 2 weeks after giving birth - well, that’s something no one should ever have to endure. However, Sabrina took the heartbreak of losing her father and over the next year decided to carry on his legacy in supporting others in their ALS journey with loved ones.
“I love my dad so much and I want everyone who is in the same spot to know I love them too. And I will be whoever they need me to be. I will hold your hand and let you know that you’re okay,” Sabrina says.
Sabrina has taken this loss and created an incredibly empowering voice for herself and Ton. Her biggest goal in advocacy is to raise awareness, which will in turn help support more families in their ALS journey. Sabrina shares that we need more people to talk about ALS, talk about the events, the fundraisers - as much as possible, until there is a cure.
Sabrina, what a gift you are to the ALS community and to your father. You are so selfless, compassionate, and strong. You are moving mountains and we are so, so blown away by all the tremendous work you have done and will always do!
Tune in to hear more, and how you can help join the fight to end ALS.
102: Behavior, Development, Daily Routines and More! ~Chats with Pediatric OT, Anne~
May 18, 2021
This week on the podcast, we are so honored to have Anne as our special guest! Anne is a pediatric occupational therapist, with 18 years of experience in the field. She currently works for a children’s hospital but has worked in a variety of settings. Anne has a husband and son, and becoming a mother brought even new meaning to her passion for occupational therapy, and created an even deeper appreciation and value. “My role as a therapist has made me a better mom, and my role as a mom has made me a better therapist,” Anne says.
In this episode, Anne shares what pediatric OT can address, and as Anne reflects, “We do things everyday that bring us meaning and purpose and through those tasks and activities and that’s where we look at the impact of where we need to focus on in OT.” She also dives into fine and gross motor skills that are appropriate for different age levels, as well as some early signs that an infant or child might exhibit that would indicate OT is needed.
One of the most fascinating topics we delve into, however, are the OT strategies that Anne shares, for daily routines that parents can use to help with life with the littles. Anne states that our daily routine is like the blueprint and the foundation for everything, and it’s important to think about the hardest part of your day - and to zero in on that and what needs to be managed, what’s causing difficulties in those areas and what can be addressed. It was so interesting to hear about how all the patterns and flows of the day can really dictate the moods and behaviors of us as adults, and our children as well! Anne shares even more insight on this, as well as behaviors and how she incorporates OT into her own family’s daily life.
As Anne will discuss in this week’s episode, it’s so important to know our own sensory needs and nervous system needs, and what we need to do to nurture ourselves on a daily basis in order to be our best selves.
Anne, thank you SO much for sharing your incredible wisdom and phenomenal expertise with us! We know that anyone listening will walk away from this episode feeling empowered and ready to implement some phenomenal strategies thanks to you!!!! We are so thrilled and honored to feature such a strong, inspiring, and loving woman and mama like YOU! Thank you, thank you!!!

101: The Bountiful Mama ~Chats with Mama Coach, Amanda~
May 11, 2021
We are so thrilled to have Amanda on the podcast this week to share all about her approaches to empowering women and mothers to feeling more supported and fulfilled. Amanda, mama to two littles, with one on the way, shares all about her new business, The Bountiful Mama, how it was born and all of its offerings.
Amanda reflects on how she wanted to create a community that focuses solely on women and mothers who desire more fulfillment. She explains that there is so much fulfillment in becoming a mother; a new part of you is born with each child, but there are areas that need work, because there are always new awakenings that allow you to see how you need to heal and what needs work. As a recovering perfectionist, Amanda shares that she’s had to work on learning to enjoy a life that is messy and fun and beautiful.
As a mama coach, Amanda helps people create self-awareness and how they want to show up in this world. She discusses the chain of events that led her to this passion and professional path and how being coached herself ultimately inspired her to seek out this journey.
Amanda talks about how nurturing herself and her inner child and integrating this into her life has allowed her to instill these healthy and safe ways to process emotions in her children as well; the importance of letting them see it’s normal to feel emotions and giving them permission to put their feelings into words.
“Women will change the world by bringing emotions and feelings and compassion into the lives around us,” Amanda says. As an advocate for self-love and making others feel empowered, Amanda discusses that as you invest more time in yourself, you’ll discover more pockets of time available for yourself. The more you put into yourself and your livelihood, the more you’ll want to keep coming back for more because you will see the beautiful ripple effects it has on your life.
Amanda, what a joy it was to have your strong feminine energy on the podcast this week! You radiate such a positive, brave, and compassionate light and we have no doubt others will feel exactly as we did after listening: comforted, ready to move mountains, loved, worthy, and most of all - heard, as women.
Thank you, thank you for doing what you do; you are such an inspiration to all!

99: Advocate Like a Mother: ~Alli's Journey as an Autism Mama~
Apr 27, 2021
“He’s made us closer as a couple. He’s made us closer as a family. And I am a better mom because of him.”
This week on the podcast, in honor of Autism Awareness Month, we have a very special guest! Alli, sister to our girl Lauren, is here to share about her journey as mama to her son, Liam who has Autism. Alli gives a insight into her life; mama to 3 boys and wife to Todd. She works as an elementary school teacher and treasures family time! Alli discusses how, in her mom gut, she knew early that her middle son, Liam, might require additional needs. As a family, they went through the first few years of Liam’s life making different adjustments, seeking out therapies and getting him evaluated for Early Intervention. Alli trusted her instincts and used her experience working as an educator to advocate for Liam in every way she could. She went out to advocate on her own for various therapies and began to enlist the help of a psychiatrist to help with some of Liam’s needs.
Alli tells us of the diagnosis that came in the middle of kindergarten: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 2, and Depressive Mood Disregulation Disorder. She shares the indicators she recognized as Autism, and what the next steps were following this diagnosis. They continued to strengthen as a family in figuring out what they could do to best help Liam, and best lead him to success. Alli used this time to discover the best support for Liam, and she ultimately found the right clinic and their family witnessed monumental progress and saw Liam thrive like never before.
From being told that he would never be able to be empathetic, to seeing him completely transform and create engaging and special relationships, asking people how they are doing - has been awe-inspiring, Alli shares.
“Never say never. There are no limits with these kids and they can do anything they want, with support and love.”
Alli shares more of how to be an advocate for your child; it is your right to speak up for your child, or ask questions, and call a meeting for additional answers. It’s important to always keep finding balance with your support team; after all, we’re all working toward the same common goal.
It’s abundantly clear in Alli’s journey, that while Autism has presented many struggles and challenges for her family, it’s ultimately created the strong, loving and dedicated family unit that they are today. Alli, listening to your story, hearing how strong your mama heart beats for all 3 of your boys, and how much you would do for them - was truly beautiful. You are not only advocating for your own family, but others when you share your tremendous experience. It was a true honor to have your phenomenal voice on the podcast, we are so grateful for you sharing your inspiring story, Alli!
Let’s continue to Light It Up Blue, and light these fires to fight for others always.

97: A Story of Hope and Miracles: Jessica's Fertility Journey
Apr 13, 2021
“Beyond the statistics it happened. And you can hear the results (baby coos) in the background,” Jessica says and you can practically hear a smile on her face as she says this.
This week on the podcast, we are beyond honored to have special guest Jessica share her incredible fertility story. Jessica just so happens to be sister to our own lovely Boob Broad, Lauren! Jessica’s fertility journey begins 13 years ago. She shares that her diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) caused issues in conceiving, due to irregular cycles. With this in mind, she and her husband decided to seek fertility treatment, which Jessica provides insight on. After a variety of tests, they decided to begin their IVF journey.
The IVF process is challenging, depleting and a lot of work for couples. Jessica and her husband were so grateful to have gotten pregnant with their two precious girls through their IVF cycles. They dreamed of having a third but it did not work out as they had hoped with IVF. Fast forward to the year 2020 — the craziest year we have experienced in our world — and this brought Jessica and her family an incredible, magical, miracle.
Against all odds, science, statistics, considering ages and infertility diagnosis, Jessica got pregnant naturally and had the most amazing surprise when she found out she was pregnant with her third miracle baby! There was a lot of initial shock surrounding finding out she was pregnant, as Jessica delves into, but they were so overjoyed with this news and grateful for this gift of growing their family just as they had hoped to, 13 years ago.
Jessica discusses the pregnancy, the delivery and all the feelings that went along with it, after having such a different experience with her first two. She says, “So many want to use this story as a cautionary tale… but, as my husband says: ‘It’s like someone wants to break into your house, but to give you a cake.’” As you’ll hear throughout the episode, Jessica and her husband’s dedication to one another throughout the last 13 years and beyond is unbreakable and so inspiring to hear.
Jessica’s story is one for the books. Infertility is heartbreaking and such a difficult experience — there are no words. But this story evokes every ounce of hope you may need to hear, and listening to Jessica’s comforting, strong, and compassionate voice, you will no doubt feel solidarity, support, and validation. Most importantly, we hope you listen to this story of hope and feel uplifted and a big virtual hug, for wherever you are at in your journey.
Jessica — thank you SO much for sharing your story, your heart, and such a big piece of yourself with us! What a privilege it is to have you share such an inspirational story and spread awareness and hope.
96: Mrs. USA, Motherhood, and Advocacy: Nicole's Story
Apr 06, 2021
“I knew I needed to fully accept Ashlynn's diagnosis in order to fully help her in the way she needed it,” Nicole says.
This week we are honored to have Nicole on the podcast! Nicole has two sweet kiddos: Cristiano (6) and Ashlynn (3), was Mrs. USA Universe 2018, and most importantly, uses her platform to raise awareness and advocate for those with different needs, particularly Cerebral Palsy. Nicole’s daughter Ashlynn was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 6 months old, and since then Nicole has made it her mission to advocate for and support other families, while educating others as much as possible.
Although Ashlynn was diagnosed at just 6 months old, the road to the diagnosis was not an easy one. Nicole and her husband experienced a very challenging and traumatic pregnancy, including a surgery during pregnancy, and going on bed rest at 29 weeks. While it wasn’t the delivery she had planned or hoped for, Nicole and her husband were so grateful that Ashlynn made her way into the world safely. Ashlynn spent 36 days in the NICU, enduring many tests and 6 months later, she was diagnosed with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. As Nicole explains, the waiting in between tests, while knowing something was wrong, led to some very dark, hard days. The way Nicole shares the day of diagnosis is so symbolic of how she embraces this entire journey; with the utmost strentgh. She said it was beautiful and heartbreaking, as the doctor gracefully and gently explained all the amazing things Ashlynn was doing, while also confirming her diagnosis.
Nicole stresses how important it is to get an early diagnosis for Cerebral Palsy; in how many resources, services and support can truly help a child at such an early age. Nicole shares how Ashlynn has inspired her to use her voice to spread hope, and enlighten others with information on how to be more inclusive. “If it’s not being offered in your community, then be the one to introduce it,” Nicole says. And that’s just what she did! Nicole has already made so many strides in the community and in educating others to build a more inclusive and loving environment. Nicole’s strength, perseverance and love for her family and others is unmatched. It’s astounding how much she will do to create more connection, comfort and resources for others.
“Being an inclusive community is not just about including my daughter but it’s about living in a community that allows you to be on a journey of someone that lives differently than you.”
Wow. Just wow. What a strong, compassionate, and inspiring woman you are, Nicole. It was a gift to have you share your beautiful heart with us, and we are blown away by all you do. Thank you so, so much for being here and for all the ways you are building a more inclusive, loving and world for all.

Mar 23, 2021
Infertility is working harder than ever for something, and it not happening. Infertility is loneliness even when you’re surrounded by so much love.
Infertility sucks. And, it just needs to be talked about. Because it’s a medical diagnoses and happens far too often.
This week on the podcast, we are so thrilled to have Andrea as our special guest, a true inspiration, sharing her journey with infertility, as well as her time as an IVF nurse. Andrea shares the entire process: trying to conceive, those initial overwhelming fertility clinic consultations, and of course, the meds and fertility treatments, while simultaneously working as an IVF nurse, and being on both ends of the equation. As you’ll witness in this episode, Ann navigates this challenging journey with the utmost grace and strength. In a season of life, when every failed cycle there is someone else getting pregnant, and you’re feeling more alone than ever, Ann shares that opening up can be cathartic in this journey. Opening up can help open doors emotionally.
While you may be surrounded by so much love, infertility causes people to feel alone regardless. It’s isolating, and as Ann reflects, leaning on your partner is the best thing you can do. They’re also going through this battle as well, and they know exactly how it feels.
Infertility is a lot of things, but it also leaves an impact on you. For Ann, she discusses how it’s changed her perspective on pregnancy, motherhood and life in general. It’s truly remarkable how Ann takes a strenuous situation and sees the ways it’s helped shape her into the woman, wife and mother she wants to be.
And even though IVF and infertility can make a person feel emotionally spent and physically drained, it’s crucial to talk about, as Ann mentions. Find a safe place, whether it’s a few friends, family or co-workers, and share your story when you’re ready. Because for someone out there, your story could be their lifeline.
Ann, thank you so much for joining us on the podcast and sharing such a huge piece of your heart. Your perspective and courage is awe-inspiring and admirable. It takes a brave AF person to go through what you’ve been through. And then, to share about it, so candidly and authentically, is so refreshing and comforting to others. Mar 16, 2021
Re-sil-ient: Adjective- able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.
This week we are joined by our guest Cherisse, and if there is one word we can use to describe her story it is resilient. Cherisse and her husband Joe married in 2012, and began their journey to start a family. Cherisse shares her attempts to conceive with Clomid, Femara, IUI, and IVF. And after 8 years of trying to conceive, and limited embryos remaining from IVF, Cherisse and Joe were left with a decision to make. Together the couple decided to seek a gestational carrier to help them achieve their dream of having a baby. Through many tears from those trying 8 years the couple was finally able to meet their baby that they hoped and prayed for, for so long.
Cherisse shares, “I hope he understands one day and knows that we love him more than anything, and obviously would have done anything to have him here”. There is no doubt in our minds that your son will be forever thankful to you and your husband for your tireless efforts.
Cherisse, we are so grateful that you were willing to relive that difficult time of your life in order to share with us. We hope that sharing the incredible outcome brings back all of those comforting and loving feelings for you. If you listen to our podcast, each week you will hear the loving and compassionate voice of Pamela Quinn. To know Pamela is to love her. She is kind, selfless, thoughtful, hilarious, and all around beautiful inside and out. She gives her whole heart to our podcast and our friendships. As listeners we are sure you haven’t noticed too much of a change in Pamela’s tone from each episode because she is a never ending ray of sunshine, but our incredible Pamela and her husband Kevin have been enduring some very emotional times. In January of 2019 Pamela and Kevin began trying to conceive their second child. In that year Pamela ended her 2 year breastfeeding journey and gave her body time to realign with her changing hormones. Without a successful conception in 2019, Pamela and Kevin consulted with a fertility clinic, at the start of January 2020, in hopes of having an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). As Pamela completed her necessary testing to start the IUI, January quickly faded into March. Unfortunately with March came the pandemic, and as a result the clinic closed putting a stop to all fertility procedures. Pamela and Kevin refused to give up. For the next few months, the couple used the medication Clomid, timed intercourse, and an at-home insemination kit to help them get pregnant. The sadness of negative pregnancy tests began chipping away at Pamela’s self esteem, but she wasn’t ready to resign. June arrived with new hope as the clinic reopened allowing Pamela the opportunity to have an IUI. Leading up to and following the IUI, Pamela felt discouraged as the fertility clinic did not listen to her concerns. After a cold and cruel negative pregnancy result delivered from the fertility clinic, Pamela, with the unending support from Kevin, reached out to Northwestern for their fertility assistance. During her first virtual appointment with Northwestern, Pamela immediately felt heard and seen. After 2 more IUIs and a Hysteroscopy with Northwestern, Pamela decided to take the month off in September to rest her body and prepare for In vitro fertilisation (IVF). Her IVF retrieval took place in October, and her IVF transfer happened in November. Finally after countless struggles and draining attempts Pamela and Kevin received the greatest news in December that they were pregnant. Pamela and Kevin’s commitment to their growing family has been truly remarkable. The way the two supported one another through internal ultrasounds, Covid testing, isolation, blood work, test samples, intramuscular injections, a variety of medications, overall exhaustion, and so much more is absolutely inspiring. The couple’s bond has remained unbreakable, even in a pandemic, as they worked toward their common goal of growing their family. Their story has provided so much promise and hope to many other couples struggling with infertility, and their devotion to one another is absolutely extraordinary. Pamela thank you for educating us, for being such a strong advocate for yourself and your sweet baby, and for your vulnerability in sharing. Your story brought tears to our eyes, smiles to our faces, and optimism to our hearts. We are so honored to celebrate with you, Kevin, and Oliver. And as Lauren so perfectly put it, “The world’s a better place that the Quinn family is growing”.
91: A Stepmother Journey: So Much Care, and Always There ~Katie's Story~
Mar 02, 2021
Welcome to Part 2 of our special mini series celebrating stepmoms, where we meet incredible Katie.
“Meeting James was its own blessing and then getting the bonus of having his children in my life was even more of a blessing.” In this week’s episode, we learn all about Katie and her phenomenal role as stepmother to Alyx and Jessie and wife to James. Katie shares all about meeting James, and how their relationship evolved while Katie simultaneously grew a relationship with his precious kids. Right away Katie felt a strong connection to Alyx and Jessie, and as a music teacher, music was and remains one of their biggest ways to bond. Katie says that even to this day, she can hear one or both of them singing to themselves as they fall asleep. Additionally, Katie instantly had maternal intuition when it came to recognizing special needs and the support that was needed.
It takes a special person to see the beauty in everything but Katie has truly found the magic in each moment of this journey - the good and the bad. Katie discusses in the episode that she is currently going through the adoption and custody process with the children’s biological mother which has been quite a bumpy road. While it’s been difficult to navigate, Katie is so looking forward to having this process be finalized. As you’ll hear in her voice, she absolutely adores her role in these kiddos’ lives and considers it to be the highest honor.
“I hope it never stops feeling so special when they call me “Mommy,” or when they run to me when they’re sad. It’s been the privilege and honor of my life. It hasn’t been easy but I am so thankful for this journey.”
Wow, just wow. Katie, thank you for sharing your story with us so candidly; your mindset and dedication to your family is truly awe-inspiring and we are so honored to have you on the podcast this week! Thank you, thank you!

90: A Stepmother Journey: So Much Care, and Always There ~Stephanie's Story~
Feb 23, 2021
We are so thrilled to be featuring a mini series on two very special stepmoms. Welcome to Part 1 of this series, where we meet wonderful Stephanie.
“To say that I am those kid’s stepmom, to say that I am Jack’s wife, is the most rewarding blessing."
Stephanie is stepmom to two sweeties, Adam & Julia and wife to Jack (and has a baby on the way!). The passion she has for these roles is truly astounding, as you’ll see in this week’s episode. Stephanie shares that her love of children began at a young age and was carried with her throughout life. So much in fact that her profession as a high school teacher includes teaching child development and parenting classes. In this episode, Stephanie discusses being a stepmother, how there’s so many ways to have a family and she’s so happy that this particular dynamic fell into her lap.
She divulges all about meeting her husband, the kids, falling hard for all of them, and how all their relationships have evolved and how they became a family. They love to do lots of fun activities together and have fun, but there are still challenges, which Stephanie shares insight into. Stephanie mentions that while “I’m not their mom, I am their parent,” and she takes this title very seriously in the love and dedication she has for her kids, as well her husband and co-parenting with the children’s mother. Becoming a stepmother is not easy, and there are difficult parts that Stephanie sheds light on. But, falling into this motherly role came so naturally to Stephanie and it felt like her motherly instincts had been there her entire life.
Thank you so much for sharing your incredible story, Stephanie! Your kids and husband are so very lucky to have you! It was an honor to have you on the podcast! <3

89: What to Do...When Traveling with Two (and in a Pandemic)
Feb 16, 2021
A few weeks ago, Lauren shared about her family’s experience with COVID. Thankfully, they all came out of it healthy and fully recovered! Once they were able to, they decided to strut those antibodies and get down to Florida while they could! In this episode Lauren shares all about traveling with two littles, and also traveling during a pandemic.
Granted, Lauren was not fearful of catching COVID since they recently had it, but they took all the necessary precautions and she notes that if you’re going to travel now, shoot for an AirBnB or house to stay in. Lauren chats all about the differences in traveling during this season of COVID, and all about her tips and tricks for flying with two kiddos. Of course mask wearing is essential, and Lauren practiced with her son Leon well before the trip to make sure he was comfortable with it, and made a game out of it: “Let’s pretend we are ninjas wearing our masks while coloring!” Another solid tip? Try to have the kids burn as much energy as possible before the flight, which also helps so they aren’t extra busy and fiddling with the mask on the flight!
Tune in to hear Lauren share more, about what they did to keep safe, be mindful, and most of all have fun as a family during such wild times in the world!
88: Pregnancy + Parenting in a Pandemic. It's all Goode. ~An Interview with Quigley & Alex~
Feb 09, 2021
This week on the podcast, we are so pumped to feature the sweetest couple with the most genuine hearts and bushels of humor: Quigley and Alex! This power couple lives in LA with their sweet baby Max, and they are content creators and digital marketing educators. On top of parenting and running a kickass business, these two inspire many on a daily basis with sharing the raw, fun, and beautiful of life, marriage, and parenthood.
Quigley and Alex share all about spending their first pregnancy in a pandemic and unable to see and celebrate with family, along with the traumatic yet joyful labor and delivery that brought them sweet Max.
“It was a shitshow, but I had fun!” This right here says so much about Quigley and her roll-with-the-punches, positive attitude. We hear both her and Alex’s perspective on the birth; the urgency of having both choleostasis and preeclampsia, while going into labor, the challenges, and the silver linings: having a doula present, their “Walking Xanax.”
They discuss their NICU experience, coupled with Max contracting COVID shortly after, and how they managed to stay level-headed during such a chaotic and trying time. They experienced so much in such a short period of time, as new parents, and their perseverance, love, and commitment to one another and their little family is truly astounding.
Alex & Quigley chat about how becoming parents has strengthened their marriage; it forces you to have more open conversations with one another. And, as you’ll hear in this episode and on their personal accounts, these two are refreshingly honest when it comes to relationships. They share the arguments, and then they share how they come out even better than before.
Just like a baby is born at birth, a mother and father are born as well. It was really such an honor to hear these two speak so candidly not only about their love and commitment to Max, but to one another. This is a couple that really works as a team on ALL that they do. And as parents cooped up in a pandemic, with so much thrown at them and testing their spirits - especially during the fragile postpartum period — it’s awe-inspiring to hear the way they speak about one another with such care, and to see how truly devoted they are to one another.
Thank you, Quigley and Alex for sharing your stories and your incredible hearts with us - it was an honor to get to have your voices on our podcast!
Tune in and hear more — it’s a Goode one, that’s for damn sure!
87: When Covid Hits…. ~Lauren’s Story~
Feb 02, 2021
In December, Lauren’s sweet family of four got hit with Covid. Thankfully, they are all recovered completely and doing wonderfully, and we are SO grateful for that!
This week on the podcast, Lauren shares all about their personal experience; each person’s different symptoms, the chain of events that occurred following that positive test, how they cared for one another and the kids while everyone was feeling sick, and more. Lauren tells us that amid the ever-changing symptoms each day, the feelings that go along with Covid were just as challenging for her. She explains, that it played mental games with her, seeing all the news, playing all scenarios over in her head, etc. On top of that, it’s hard to rest as a mom while managing the house and your loved ones. Lauren explains that while it was an emotional rollercoaster on top of feeling crappy, that there were things that helped calm her down which are discussed in this week’s episode!
Lauren shares that an important piece of advice for people going through this, is just to focus on getting through each moment, and to go very easy on yourself. Talk to others who will bring you solace and comfort. And order out lots of soup :)
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Lauren - we hope this will resonate, comfort and help anyone else who may be listening that needs to hear from someone who’s been through this nasty virus. For all those who have experienced Covid, been affected by it, or lost a loved one due to Covid, we are sending you all our love and keeping a special place for you in our hearts!

86: Postpartum Anxiety and a Pandemic ~Julie's Story~
Jan 26, 2021
Postpartum Anxiety - it does not get a lot of attention and very often gets overlooked in diagnosing because it’s just not talked about enough, and its symptoms don’t always get recognized. And many times, these symptoms get brushed aside unfortunately. But we are hoping this will change, and more awareness will be spread.
This week on the podcast, Julie shares her experience with Postpartum Anxiety, and how it’s affected her the second time around. Dealing with the fragility of mental health is incredibly heavy in and of itself. But add in a pandemic. Add in trying to adjust to becoming a mother of two and the typical postpartum recovery. Julie was also faced with multiple health issues within her family that served as catalysts for triggering extra anxiety during this postpartum period. And, because it’s a pandemic, she was unable to allow help in as one might normally do in a non-COVID world.
That’s a lot to bear. That’s a lot to navigate. Julie shares how she first recognized her symptoms, the triggers that would cause a spiral of thoughts and worry, and the way she’s been discovering coping mechanisms to help alleviate symptoms. To deal with traumatic events in one’s personal life as you’re healing mentally and physically from birth is challenging, and in Julie’s story you’ll witness her utmost perseverance, resilience, and most of all her dedication to her love for her family and in healing herself.
Postpartum anxiety is a thief, as is this pandemic. It robs you of control, of being able to navigate life and emotions as you might normally do. But we hope that in hearing Julie’s story you know you are not alone, and there are ways to seek help. Julie, we are honored you shared your journey with us and we are always here beside you, to help carry the load and hold your hand. We love you and you are never alone.
85: Bringing a New Found Glory into the World: Lorenzo’s Birth Story
Jan 19, 2021
How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world!
Ahh this week we have a VERY special episode - Julie is sharing Lorenzo’s birth story with us! And what a beautiful story it is. Julie talks about the differences in the entire process from her birth with Giacomo; the expectation of going in for a c-section this time vs. having it happen last minute for the first baby. We also hear about Julie’s recovery from the c-section this time around, while caring for a newborn and toddler.
Most of all, Julie tells us all the heartwarming details of the overall experience: from the anesthesiologist making sure her and Joe’s favorite songs were playing in the OR, to the conversations they had while awaiting Lorenzo’s birth, all the way to helpful products in the postpartum period, and Giacy transitioning into big brotherhood - Julie spills the tea and it’s positively a gift to hear. This is a birth story that will leave you feeling all the warm and fuzzies. In the chaos and hardness of 2020, came a really bright light; Lorenzo, and we are so over the moon for Julie, Joe, and Giacomo!
Julie went into delivery calm, serene, with the most relaxed attitude, and ready to meet her boy. And it’s pretty remarkable how things turn out; Lorenzo just happens to be the most calm, serene baby boy with such a relaxed demeanor! He was truly made to be part of your family, and we’re so very thrilled for you all!
Thank you, Julie, for sharing your precious story of bringing baby #2 into the world! Your strength, relaxed composure, and resilient nature are truly astounding and it was such an honor to get to hear your story!

81: Take Your Passion & Make It Happen: The Transition Back to Work As a Working Mother
Nov 24, 2020
We have a very special guest joining us this week: Megan, mama to Aggie, and platonic soulmate to our resident Boob Broad, Lauren! Megan is here this week to discuss a very important topic for mamas everywhere: the decision to go back to work, and the transition in doing so.
Megan has been an art therapist for hospice patients for most of her career and is currently an Art Therapist/Manager of Bereavement Services; she has a great passion for her work and connecting with those in this very special community. Going into maternity leave, Megan knew that she’d be going back to work; she thrives in that environment, adores her career, and additionally, it allowed her family financial flexibility to indulge in their hobbies and self-care activities.
As the end to her maternity leave drew closer, Megan dreaded the transition back to work. As most other working mamas can relate, no matter how much you love your job, it’s never easy to leave your baby and ease back into the working world. Megan shares all about her emotions going back to work, the support system she had in place, pumping, bottle feeding and more!
Megan discusses all the resources that are necessary to make this new chapter easier for working moms: comradery with others, and normalizing and validating your feelings.
“Aggie will be so proud of you when she learns what you do for work,” is something Lauren told Megan and she journeyed back to work. And yes, yes she will. You are an inspiration, Megan! Thank you for sharing your story, all of your advice and tips for other mothers out there. We are so lucky to have you in this community!
Tune in to hear more from Megan! :)

80: Tired As a Mother! ~Chats About Sleep Regressions~
Nov 17, 2020
We’re having déjà vu… we’ve had this conversation before, right? ;) We’re back to chat all about sleep regressions, and Lauren shares where they’re at in this journey, and how she’s coping. Sleep regressions are no joke. Because they come after there’s been a string of great sleep, and BAM! Those precious little babies just decide to change things up. Keeps us young, I guess.
In this episode, Lauren shares their current sleep regression with baby #2, what they’re doing to get through it and the plans that lay ahead. We discussed quite a bit of our own personal stories with this, and one thing’s for certain; the one thing that is our saving grace when it comes to lack of sleep: solidarity. So send those late night texts to friends, connect with others, share what you’re going through. It makes it all a little more tolerable ;)
79: Fiercely Feminine: Chats with Lauren About Prenatal Wellness

After experiencing a bladder prolapse with her first son, she was determined to find a safe way to workout that left her feeling fulfilled. Lauren shares excellent resources, ideas and tools for bringing wellness into your life while expecting. Lauren stands by the saying , “you gotta be the CEO of your own health.” Advocating for yourself, and preparing your body for childbirth and motherhood is key.
We can’t wait for you to listen to this episode and feel empowered and ready to slow down, tap into your feminine energy, and trust the slowness of this process. Thank you Lauren for sharing your wisdom and incredible expertise!!

_____
PS - It only took 10 years as a fitness professional for someone to correct me on the pronunciation of “quadruped.” No one probably corrected me and I had no idea I needed to be corrected because I wasn’t even close. So when you hear, “quah-droop-ed,” I meant, “quah-drah-ped.” The English language is clearly not my jam. That is why I keep Pamela and Julie around!
This week we’re chatting all about where we hope to be in 20 years from now!
At that point we might be talking about menopause. ;) But other than that, we delved into wishes and dreams for our next two decades. Where we’d love to be in our professional and personal lives, what goals we hope to accomplish, what travels we’d like to take, and of course, who we hope is sitting around the table with us each night.
It was so fun to discuss and reflect together, on our pipeline of dreams, and where we’d love to be in our lives twenty years from now.

77: Ask for Help. Just Do It.
Oct 27, 2020
One of the hardest things to do as moms- or, even as humans!- is asking for help. But it’s truly a beautiful thing when you do exercise that muscle and allow for help; in whatever capacity that may be.
In this episode, we share our own journeys with the need for asking for help, and the rewards that come from it. It’s important to do it before hitting rock bottom, but let’s be honest, sometimes you’ll have to hit rock bottom and have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day just like Alexander ;)
Being honest about the help you need and and when you need it, is truly liberating. Ask for help when you need it, of course, but also when you don’t need it; that helps to maintain your mental health. And, the silver lining in all of this? Your kiddos reap the benefits from connecting more with their grandparents or whoever is caring for them when you ask for that help.
Of course things change, as life during a pandemic changes, and we’ll cover that, too ;)

Oct 13, 2020

As the title of this episode states, we cover a lot of bases in our indulgences, from shower beers to organization to long showers and uninterrupted poops. 74: If It Feels Too Heavy, F It.
Oct 06, 2020
Inspired by Lauren’s recent post on our social media accounts, we decided to dive into the beauty of not giving a f*ck. We’ll chat about our f*ck budgets: you only have so many to give, so where will you put them?
And, we discuss our process for how to adapt to this mindset. Re-evaluating where time, money, and energy are spent. Focusing on what you can control, and what truly matters. For example, the 5x5 rule. If it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t worry about it for more than 5 minutes. Remember, in order to be polite, you do not need to apologize. And most of all, remember: when you stop giving a f*ck, you will feel a freedom like never before. You’ll be more present, more mindful… more YOU! Let that shit go, mama.
1 in 7 women may experience a serious mood disorder: postpartum depression (PPD). Our special guest this week, Elyse, gave great insight on this statistic. “Unfortunately, this number is most likely underreported due to stigma. One major reason being, women not realizing they have it due to lack of resources, and women not wanting to admit it. These are the biggest reasons why, though, you SHOULD talk about it,” Elyse says.
It wasn’t until her first Mother’s Day, when her twins were about 6 months old that Elyse recognized that how she had been feeling was in fact postpartum depression. She had known from the doctors and nurses that with her pregnancy and delivery, and her twins’ stay in the NICU she was at more risk for having PPD, but it was her realization of this that brought her to seeking help. The feelings of PPD can really alter your feelings of yourself, and Elyse shares that therapy and opening herself up to resources is what brought her back to feeling happy - and most importantly, HER, again.
PPD is such a difficult, scary journey. But it is more common than we think. Elyse found an incredible silver lining in the midst of her battle. She immersed herself in research and advocacy, to help others not feel alone. And to bring awareness to such an important affliction. Elyse works full-time and has such a big passion for her career and place of work. So much that, Elyse created a presentation on her journey and PPD, to share with others at her company. As her company has expanded and more women are now there and more women are having babies, it was the perfect time to share. Because, creating awareness and giving space for someone to take care of themselves are just two ways you can really show up for others in their postpartum period.
Thank you, Elyse for sharing your incredible story. You are strong AF, resilient and a hero to all out there that need to hear your powerful voice right now.
Tune in to hear more of Elyse’s story.

72: No One More Tough Than a NICU Mama: Hayley’s Story
Sep 21, 2020
In honor of NICU Awareness Month, we have a very special guest joining us this week. Hayley, mama to sweet Mila Scott, shares her family’s journey during her daughter’s NICU stay.
Hearing your baby needs to be in the NICU is jarring in and of itself, coupled with coming off of a long labor, C-Section recovery and of course, exhaustion - it’s a lot to swallow. Hayley and her husband Alex found out shortly after Mila was born that she would need time in the NICU due to Meconium Aspiration. It sounded like she was under water, and would require additional tests, a procedure the day after birth, and assistance with breathing.
Hayley and Alex’s first few weeks of parenthood were not how they pictured. But, as Hayley says, “You have to let go of how you imagined things to be.” She had to let go of the vision she dreamt of, holding her newborn in her arms; it would be 6 days until she was able to do so. As a NICU parent, you begin to learn things you never thought you’d understand: all the medical machines, tubes, numbers - and you see just how resilient and powerful your tiny precious baby is.
As lonely and as scary as this process is, Hayley shares that the best thing to do is celebrate the small victories. “In the NICU, there are so many steps forward and then steps back; you just need to really focus on all those wins, no matter how small.”
Everyone’s NICU journey is different, but we hope Hayley’s story shines a light on how impactful this process is for families and babies. It is an incredibly trying time, and we are sending all our love and prayers to those who are in the midst of their NICU stay, or have experienced one. And to the doctors, nurses, and NICU staff: thank you for caring for these babies and families with your heartfelt expertise.
Hayley, thank you for sharing your story with us. This challenging start to motherhood no doubt shaped the kind of mother you are: strong AF, resilient, mighty, and ever-so-loving. This shows in the spunky, flourishing, big-hearted little girl you have in Mila.
When it comes to making the decision to become a parent with your partner, there’s other decisions to weigh in on together as well. There’s a whole slough of topics to discuss before expanding your family, but let’s be real: there’s always something to discuss on the topic of parenting! ;)
From religion to finances, dynamics, mental health, date nights, and more, we chat all about what we discussed with our spouses before becoming parents- and, what we wished we talked about. Parenthood changes with each stage our child hits, and there’s always something new to tackle. Whether you’re on the same page together or not, the most important thing is to keep your heart open and hands held together.

70: The Keeper of it All: A Mother's Mental Load
Sep 08, 2020
A mother’s brain never turns off. It never stops thinking about all the things that need to get done, the tangible things, the emotional things: everything.
This week’s discussion is on the mental load a mother bears, and was inspired by a Scary Mommy article. It features the thought that we are “the Keepers” of it all. The schedules, the meal planning, the grocery lists, the activities, and of course all the worry, the maintaining a house, ensuring everyone’s happiness, world peace, etc.
In this episode we dive into our own personal mental loads: the constant anticipation of others’ needs, schedules and everything in between. We’ll also chat about our solutions and how to adapt to the sink or swim mantra, in letting things go. Mamas, our plates are overflowing - but what about our cups? THEY need to be the ones overflowing!
Tune in to hear more :)

We also dive into solutions: how can we make space for ourselves, especially in this season of Covid and lack of normal outlets for releasing tension?
Survival mode, while not always ideal, is an inevitable way to be in life. It’s going to happen, and we’re here to chat about our personal experiences, and how to navigate the hard times, and relish the good you find in between.

65: Boobs Tell All: Our Stances on Different Parenting Techniques (Part 1)
Aug 03, 2020
We’re back with a tell all! And this week is the first installment of a series of questions we tackle. Breastfeeding. Formula. Sleep training. Co-Sleep. Ear piercing. Authoritative. Attachment. Child Reins. Talking about sex. These are a few of the topics we dive into in this episode and it really evolved into some great discussions. We hope that this episode not only reaches and reassures you, wherever you are, but we hope that this serves as a reminder to all, to be kind to others and their choices.

64: Our Little Ones & Their Big Emotions
Jul 28, 2020
Our children are growing and so are their emotions, rightfully so. There is so much at play that can impact their tantrums and emotions in the day-to-day. We’ve all experienced an influx of tantrums over the last several weeks and thought it was a great time to revisit our tantrum discussion!
This week we’re chatting all about what’s triggering our little ones; from schedule changes to screen time to time constraints and social engagement - we talk about it all! And we delve into where to go from here: ideas we’ve come up with to focus on in the moment, and how we’re going to bring some of these solutions to fruition in our everyday life.
When you think your toddler is being unreasonable, they are most likely being very reasonable within their own emotional intelligence; these different triggers can really rock our little ones and deter their mood. Remember, you’re not alone. You’re doing an excellent job nurturing your child, all the while making sure they know it’s healthy to have all types of emotions.
14: Love on Yourself the Way You Love on Others: Celebrating the Postpartum Body (Re-Release)
Jul 21, 2020
Guess what’s back, back again?! A re-release of loving your postpartum body because, we just felt like we could all use a nice reminder to be kind to ourselves!
<3
There are so many milestones that get celebrated around our bodies: getting pregnant and having a baby; the weekly bump pictures … the post-delivery look where you’re still a little swollen but it’s recognized as a “grace period.”
But what about the day-to-day? The body that gets up, tirelessly, each night to feed the baby? The body that works in an office throughout the day, and/or the body that cooks, cleans, and drives children around town. The body that gets down on the play mat to do tummy time with baby.
Where are the portraits of this body? Where is the applause for these incredible milestones? We document the 20 week gestational mark with pictures but did you applaud yourself for the first time you drove post-C section? How about the time you got dressed up for a wedding post-pregnancy?
As women we build up all those around us, and pay special care in doing so, but why don’t we do the same for ourselves?
In this next episode, we will dive into our body image, the struggle with accepting our postpartum bodies, and how we’ve learned to celebrate them.
We can’t wait to share more in our latest episode! Sending our love and strength to all women who need that extra hug.

63: Minimalize: It's a Lifestyle
Jul 14, 2020
“Be a version of a minimalist that feels good for you.”
In this week’s episode Julie does a deep dive of her minimalism journey: what initially inspired her to take on this lifestyle change, the process, where all the items go, and the end result. And, the end result has allowed Julie to clean up in half the time, and allow for slowing down and truly making room for the things that matter.
Minimalism doesn’t have to be all-in. As Julie says, she made her own path that works best for her and her family. With her home 75% completed in the process (I MEAN WOW), Julie’s already noticed a difference in how much more quality time they have as a family, how much it’s positively impacted finances, and how minimizing even has allowed for her toddler son to enjoy playtime more!
As Julie says, “Life is way more than the stuff you have.” As a sentimental person, Julie advises, there’s so many special ways to keep memories alive without having to keep actual items. Are you ready to take the leap? Tune in to hear our girl chat more about how to minimalize the things in your life and ultimately, you’ll maximize your happiness! Thank you Julie for sharing your story - you’ve inspired us all to now throw out those old movie ticket stubs ;)

62: What to Expect Right After You’re Expecting
Jul 07, 2020
All the time you hear that each child is different, which couldn’t be more true. On that same note, each postpartum period might also be different. Add in the adjustment of your first born becoming a big sibling, differences in physical and emotional changes and it’s a brand new season completely.
On this week’s episode, Lauren shares the transition into becoming a mother of two: from differences in breastfeeding, body, and baby, she sheds a raw, and beautiful light on all aspects. The two most important takeaways Lauren emphasizes: don’t be afraid to get yourself new clothes and forget about the number! And, continue traditions with your first born when possible, like story time before bed that may be oh-so-sacred to them.
Cheers to you, mama of two! You’re killing it, Lauren! <3
Nothing like a quarantine to make you pick up some good habits and healthy mindsets, right!? Quarantine has been brand new to all of us, thrown different challenges our way but it’s also forced us to create new habits, and enhance current lifestyles.
This week on the podcast, tune in to hear us discuss new, positive changes we’ve made in our lives that we hope to move forward with, in our new normal.

Jun 23, 2020
Carrying out the Father’s Day love a little longer this year! This week we are chatting all about our incredible dads. You’ll hear all about the men who have helped shape us and their special personalities: the one who’s first on the dance floor at a wedding, the one who talks about love and relationships, the one who cares for an abandoned wolf pup.
These are the men who have loved on us from the very beginning, cheered us on, told us to shoot for the stars - but to have fun while doing it! And, we are so grateful for these men. The best part of it all has now been watching them morph into the most amazing role models to their grandchildren.
Happy Father’s Day to the Boob Dads! Now, there’s a weird combination of words…

58: Talking the Taboo Out of Therapy!
Jun 09, 2020
Moms always know. They always know when their child is happy, sad, hungry or if they need something a little more. In Pamela’s instance, she knew deep down that her son Oliver needed more support, more resources, and more tools to help him communicate and enjoy things to the capacity she knew he could.
In this week’s episode, join us as Pamela shares how and why she sought out Speech & Occupational Therapies for her son, what the process has been like, and all the ups and downs in between. There’s been frustrations, hard moments, but there have been amazing triumphs and progress - with many great learning experiences for both Ollie and his family.
Taking the leap into something new and uncertain can be intimidating, but as Pamela says, seeing the joy on Ollie’s face when he figures something out, or is able to communicate his wants or needs, well, that is the best thing.
Tune in to hear more about Ollie’s adventures in therapy! And to every family out there: know that whatever path you’re on, whatever struggles you have been met with, I am confident you are doing incredible work, and the best work you can do is loving your child and you’re dong exactly that.
57: She Believed She Could, So She Did. ~ An Empowering Birth Story ~
May 26, 2020
“It’s okay, it’s safe for you to come out, baby; you will be taken care of.” These are the words Lauren gently spoke to her baby, readying him for the world before he was born.
<3 Welcome to the world, baby Sy! <3 You are so loved, and one day you might listen to this episode and you will cry tears of joy and awe. You will feel immense pride for your mama; and for all her hard work, education, research and HEART she put in bringing you into this world.
This week on the podcast, Lauren shares the beautiful birth story of Sy. It’s been Lauren’s plan to have an unmedicated, natural birth for her second child, and over the last 9ish months, she’s put a lot of thought into this journey, into this experience. What she got out of it, besides her second precious boy being born, was an intense strength - and fierce voice - that was also born.
May you listen to this episode, and no matter what season you are at in your life, no matter what kind of birth you’ve had; we hope that you feel empowered, inspired and uplifted.
We found out in this episode that “Sy,” means “to be heard.” Lauren, we cannot wait for your story to be heard. Thank you for letting us be a part of this journey - it was an honor to hear your experience. We love you and are oh-so-very proud of you! I AM WOMAN. HEAR ME ROAR!

54: Self-Care: It's More Important Now Than Ever Before
May 04, 2020
Mamas, we’re in the midst of a pandemic. First things first: it’s hard AF. When something happens to us along the way in motherhood, we can always call on a family member or friend who’s been through any given situation before, to help guide us through the scenario, right? Well, these are unprecedented times. None of our parents have gone through this. We’re winging it day by day, and just figuring it out as we go. And that’s perfect.
We talk a lot about the importance of self-care over here on the BB, but now, more than ever, it’s so necessary for us to make it a priority. And in these times of uncertainty and fear, we are all figuring out what we absolutely need in life from groceries to people to what brings us most comfort. It’s absolutely crucial we make it a priority to nurture those emotional needs now. So, self-care does not have to be face masks or pedicures. It can look like anything for you. It can just be taking the space you need to breathe. It can be pretending to go #2 to just sit alone. It can be anything at all, that just recharges you a bit.
Boob Buds, your homework for this week is to take some time each day- to do something just for YOU!!! <3
Tune in to hear more about how we are trying to bring self-care into our lives!

53: All Good Things Must Come to an End: All About Weaning
Apr 27, 2020
You’ve been along on the ride hearing all about our breastfeeding adventures; what initially brought us all to nursing group, and becoming friends! You’ve heard about our trials and tribulations along the way. And now we’re here to discuss how we all closed the chapter on our breastfeeding journeys with our babies.
Weaning is definitely a time when you’ll want to be leaning on your friends for support. It can be physically and emotionally taxing, and such a different, unique process for each person.
We each have a very different story in how we approached and went through the weaning process. But we all found one thing to be very true in the end. Ending a chapter that we’ve grown so familiar with from the very beginning is super emotional, but in ending something, there are SO many new opportunities to grow, together.
Mamas, remember: however you’re feeding, and however you transition into the next stage is 10000% perfect for you and your child.
52: It's a Potty in the U.S.A: All About Potty Training
Apr 20, 2020
Potty training can seem like a daunting task to tackle with your ever-changing, busy-as-can-be, unpredictable toddler. But what if we looked at it as a huge, exciting milestone? Our resident potty training expert, Julie, says, “Potty training can show us how our children’s learning process works, and how they like to learn.” How cool is that?!
In this next episode, we chat all about potty training; where we are personally at with our children in the process, and what tips and tricks have worked best (ahem: thank you Julie!!), and how much wine you will need on hand.
So, as challenging as this process may seem, setting expectations and knowing that at the end of the day, your child will be SO happy to achieve something new, helps take the edge off a bit… and the wine. We mentioned the wine, right?
51: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Balancing Household Responsibilities
Apr 13, 2020
Household responsibilities can be stressful and overwhelming - there’s no way around it! But what can relieve that stress and help bring balance is sharing the load with your spouse.
This week we chat all about dividing and conquering all of these tasks with our husbands and how that not only keeps us sane but helps keep our marriage strong in the end. We discuss everything from laundry, meal planning, and grocery shopping to cleaning, handiwork, yard maintenance, and finances. Communicating a plan, touching base on our family’s needs, and prioritizing tasks, has helped all of us learn what works best for our individual families.
Tune in to hear more about our little systems and why “it takes two make a thing go right….”
