Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Oct 20, 2022 Oct 20, 2022
    Show notes

This week’s show is really the Spike and Ed show, while Bob and Zip are entertained. Spike riffs with Ed Kelly’s character impressions. You’ll be convinced we know Sam Elliot.

Spike loves confessing that he burned his childhood home to the ground, and his therapist says that explains a lot.

Bob tries to figure out why he and Lisa are nomads, having moved into their 10th home in 40 years.

Turns out we are all listening to deep album cuts these days, thanks to on-demand playlists, and rediscovering great songs we’ve forgotten is one of the benefits.

Bob hears a Jethro Tull song that sounds remarkably like one of the Eagles biggest hits. Did the Eagles steal Hotel California?

As the show closes, Zip wonders why misinformation is so readily believed. A fairly serious discussion.

Comedian Bo Burnham explains how the world works. Buy his album! It’s pure genius.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Oct 11, 2022 Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

We start with Ed Kelly having technical issues. Ordinarily we’d edit that stuff out.

Spike is trying not to text his right wing radio cohosts.

Is cheating and lying a part of human nature?

What do baseball and chess have in common? (Spoiler Alert: Cheating and Lying).

How drinking a beer can make you go viral?

We talk more about moving our podcast to a video streaming software platform. We could go live and interact with listeners.

Andrew tells us what “clip culture” is, and explains a very dirty sex term to his dad.

Bob wants to know how to get presale codes for concert tickets. He’s been spoiled most of his life, and now has to fight for good seats.

Why is a fat Bear healthier than a fat human?

Andrew requests a Twisted Tune, and we close with a Bob’s Garage classic recording of Possum Kingdom. Remember the Toadies?

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Oct 6, 2022 Oct 07, 2022
    Show notes

Seriously, there’s an amazing life lesson here. Tami Asars is 2/3 of the way through her Appalachian Trail journey, hiking nearly 30 miles a day. Is she tired? No, the opposite.

Spike and Ed are so inspired burst into song about the Blue Ridge Mountains.

See Tami’s incredible journey on Instagram, and yes, she totally loves hearing from our podcast tribe. Whether it’s words of encouragement, or “What are you, nuts?”. Links to social media are at tamiasars.com

Concussions in the NFL. Part of the cost of doing business or do we need to crack down? Pun intended.

Let’s be honest. Our brains change as we age. Is there a magic pill for that?

The lies wireless phone companies tell, and the mysteriously always rising monthly costs. Who’s the best choice, Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile?

We close with one of Bob’s favorite comedians. Bo Burnham‘s incredible song about the Internet. (Sorry Andrew, it’s you again next week.)

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Sep 29, 2022 Sep 29, 2022
    Show notes

An intimate conversation this week. Let me know if it’s too “touchy-feely” for you.

Ed Kelley says he’s been thinking about the fact that he never “sired” a child. Zip too. Any regrets? Zip’s fingers are crossed that nothing slipped through the cracks during the professional drinking days.

We talk about Alan and Gigi White, and the celebration of life concert this Sunday at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. Huge lineup of Rock Stars and All Good People to honor this “Gentleman Rock Star”. Bob Rivers will host the event… all proceeds to benefit WhyHunger.

Bob reveals that he was once a member of a cult, but he still has fondness for some of their teachings.

Bob had 2 rough experiences this week. He almost fell for a phone scam aimed at senior citizens… and met the Oncologist from Hell.

Andrew Rivers brings down the average age of our group and waxes poetic about an asteroid hitting the earth.

We close with a drinking days Twisted Tune.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Sep 20, 2022 Sep 20, 2022
    Show notes

We start with what seems like jungle sounds from an African Safari. But no, these are the East Coast woods at night along the Appalachian Trail.

This week Tami Asars is in Pennsylvania walking through land rich with history, and full of bugs.

Spike waxes poetic about driving through New England towns.

Bob has an explanation for why there was no podcast last week, and as you’ll hear… got wonderfully great news in the morning… and was then in the hospital for 3 days. So he does have a note from the doctor, so to speak.

Andrew Rivers is back, and he and Dad are ready to rumble. We riff on everything under the sun, and you get some interesting behind the scenes on becoming a comic “influencer” in 2022.

Emily Maguire, San Diego Radio Star, started her career with a backstage pass on the Bob Rivers Show 20 years ago. We all commiserate with her on her recent “downsizing”, and she artfully pulls no punches.

Don’t ever tell someone you taped a football game and don’t want to know the outcome.

Lastly, a Soundgarden inspired classic twisted tune about fathers and sons seems appropriate to celebrate Andrew’s success!

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Sep 6, 2022 Sep 06, 2022
    Show notes

Bob and Zip toss around a sensitive subject for 30 minutes.

If you knew child labor made a product, would you stop buying it? Get ready to throw out a lot of your shit.

How a “news” story leaves out most of the facts. And why.

The legal weed industry is a 32 Billion Dollar business. So why is it losing money?

Spike and the Impalers played a gig that almost didn’t happen, until a white knight stepped in.

We close with What If God Smoked Cannabis, and a Spike and The Impalers cover of a ZZ Top classic.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Aug 30, 2022 Aug 30, 2022
    Show notes

The incredible Appalachian Trail journey continues. Friend of the show Tami Asars (TamiAsars.com) has traversed well over 600 miles on foot on this 2190 mile journey. Every few weeks she checks in from a mountaintop.

How many miles a day with a full backpack? You won’t believe the numbers.

Bob, Zip, Ed and Spike are 4 Old White Guys. Do you think they can find anything to talk about that does not circle back to politics?

The Mar A Lago raid, Tuition Forgiveness. Roe v Wade blowback, Electric Vehicle mandates.

Bob uses the Serenity Prayer to try to distance himself from these topics, but it doesn’t work Because we’re Old White Guys, and this is like sports, or maybe more accurately, the WWE.

Spike’s rants and energy are appreciated by all. He’s been working so hard at his radio gig, that he’s turned into a current events media prizefighter. And those claws are sharp!

We close with a Twisted Tune written about the decline of our inner cities.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Aug 23, 2022 Aug 23, 2022
    Show notes

The Gang’s all here, after a technical snafu last week. Ed Kelly has just arrived after being detained at the Canadian border and he’s a little shook up.

Spike is on fire, and Zip quietly sits there with the correct answer to every question. Reminds us of Joe a little bit, without the drawl.

Think Classic Rock songs will fade away when us Baby Boomers shed our mortal coils? Think again.

    Why did Amazon buy Roomba?

Bob has a phrase to describe most modern “free” media. Dysfunctional Drama for Profit.

Bob rides the CTA and is puzzled by a depository box at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. We ask everyone: Is Bob being stupid?

Salman Rushdie gets his Fatwah. We have a very tasteless song about it? Too soon? The song was written in 1989.

And since Spike made a joke about John Lennon spinning in his grave, we “dig up” a Twisted Tune about the Beatles posthumously releasing his demo Free As a Bird.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Aug 7, 2022 Aug 07, 2022
    Show notes

The Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly and special guest Spike O’Neill is on the road and on the Appalachian Trail.

Recorded live on an IPad in Seattle, remote to Boston, Detroit, and just past Mahoosac Notch on the AT in New Hampshire!

Tami Asars in on a 2,200 mile hike, and this week we all have a conversation with surprisingly few technical glitches! Follow her on Instagram (amazing photographs we promise). This week we explain for the tech impaired how to do that. (TamiAsars.com then click on the little Facebook, Instagram or Twitter links at the bottom – Yes lots of us are Special Ed students of tech. A millennial can do this in their sleep).

Spike talks about his new job and why his audience hates him from the get go!

Why can’t many businesses find enough employees?

Plus a short history lesson in all the ways we’re getting screwed by inflation.

This show was almost lost twice. First, the recording computer battery was about to run out, and then the file was stuck in Internet Purgatory for 2 days. Sorry for the short show and delay!

We close with a classic Bo Burnham song.

#181 | +Tami Asars | +Spike O’Neill | Tami Asars Check-In | The Sphincter of Maine | Spike @New Job | The (Almost) Lost Episode | Mahoosuc Trail | 300/2200 Miles | Playboy Mountain | Short-Staffing | Screwed by Inflation | Far Out App | Bracket-Creep | Guns & Butter | Bo Burnham: How The World Works | Monty Python: Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Jul 29, 2022 Jul 29, 2022
    Show notes

The best part of this podcast is the return of Downtown Joe Bryant! He’s getting over covid, learning life lessons from Ted Lasso, and has a lot to say about the high price of concert tickets.

Bob takes several unpopular views on today’s crazy world, but they seem to go over better this week. You won’t believe his pick for who should be the 2024 Democratic Presidential Candidate. More politics than usual on this show, hopefully thought provoking and funny. Quick: Can you name an issue that Democrats and Republicans would team up and pass a bill about? It happened. So Unicorns must be real.

Mick Jagger turns 79 and we tell you lots you never knew about him.

Anytime you get something for free, you are the product. Which means poor people who don’t spend for quality are figuratively on the back of the bus. Most of us honestly don’t know how many subscriptions we pay for each month. Shameful, no?

We close with something very special for Mariners fans, requested by Joe. A nostalgic journey through baseball Twisted Tunes.
