Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Dec 24, 2021 Dec 24, 2021
    Show notes

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! We very-much appreciate our audience and we’re working on bringing some pretty exciting things to the show in 2022!

Zip is flat out ill. Bedridden for 2 days with severe cold symptoms. Is it Covid? We don’t know for sure.

And Zip’s internet gets worse and worse each week. He’s on the cheapest plan available.

The Good News/Bad News about Omicron, and why it could end the pandemic. Buckle up, gang. The latest projections come out of The University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

If you’re willing to smell like French Fries and Cheeseburgers when you get home from work, you can now make almost $15 an hour at Mickey D’s in Vermont. Why no one pays attention to the “minimum wage” anymore.

God told Bob to buy a Tesla.

Bob, the Radical Centrist, that he is, says we should do away with some border restrictions. After all, he crossed over into New Hampshire to get Super Vaxxed.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Dec 16, 2021 Dec 16, 2021
    Show notes

Bob is in Virginia, reliving the early colonization of America, and the Revolutionary War. He and Lisa are celebrating their 40th anniversary, walking around Colonial National Historic Park in Yorktown, where, in the Fall of 1781, General George Washington defeated General Cornwallis’s British forces, effectively ending the Revolutionary War and ensuring independence.

We talk about how much it sucked to be a soldier then. And how all men were created equal, as long as they were white and male.

While on this Trip Bob rented a car using Turo, a new app that is essentially the AirBnB for Rental Cars. The car he picked out: A Tesla Model 3. It will be hard to pry the key card out of his hands on Friday.

Bob visits an dear old radio friend in Virginia Beach, and this causes him to reminisce about just how stupid he was at age 19. So incredibly dumb.

Andrew Rivers joins in for some uncomfortable conversation about his gender fluid Facebook posts, visiting a strip club, and wearing lucky clothing to ensure a good show.

We close with some good news about young people, who are getting smarter about nutrition, and a classic Beatles PSA Parody. It would be great if it helped keep you safe from Omicron, but don’t hold your breath.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Dec 9, 2021 Dec 09, 2021
    Show notes

Zip asks Bob to read a promo for a fan with an online radio show. Understand that Ed and Zip do voicework for a living, so Bob is on the spot.

Ed Kelly as Morgan Freeman apologizes for words that are hard to pronounce, like Omicron. Bob again plugs Dr John Campbell, the Youtube Epidemiologist who could have saved you a lot of worry last week.

Recent news of increasing crime in our cities hits Ed hard, as he lives in Detroit. John Lennon (with reverb, because he’s in Heaven) weighs in on the violent crime discussion, ironically.

Zip asks the rhetorical question: Do we all have too much stuff?

The Jonathan Edwards concert special that Bob Zip and Ed all attended at the Black River Innovation Campus is coming out on Friday 12/17 at 4:20 PM. Bob talks about putting that show together and how amazing Jonathan’s new album is.

Spike O’Neill joins us with an edgy update about his kids, and as he’s dealing with a tough family time, the best medicine is humor.

About 20 years ago, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame played a Twisted Christmas Tune. It was Alan White of Yes (and John Lennon), along with Randy Hansen. We tell the “behind the scenes” story of making that song.

Spike and Bob reminisce about the history of Twisted Tunes… we close with a thematic Triple Shot.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Dec 2, 2021 Dec 02, 2021
    Show notes

Must “The Media” (a phrase Bob hates because we’re all Media) always insist that everything is BREAKING NEWS?

Why does everyone mispronounce Omicron?.. And why isn’t anyone reporting that it might actually be a positive development in the ongoing pandemic? On that note, Zip has not gotten his booster shot yet, but he has finally made an appointment.

Spike O’Neill joins us for the entire podcast, and we have a rollicking good time. He claims he’s decided to put all his eggs in one basket. Everyone piles on Bob early, but he takes notes, and the verbal knives come out.

Is the Chevy Bolt the electric car for everyman? With incentives it just might be cheaper than compact ICE vehicles. And if you don’t know what ICE stands for, we’ll tell you.

A song that Bob and Zip recorded in 1986 is going viral on Tik Tok right now. Over a million views and climbing. Will we get royalties? Who owns Tik Tok? And WTF is a TikTok thing anyway?

BTW- If you like our podcasts with no profanity.. this one might not be your favorite.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Nov 26, 2021 Nov 26, 2021
    Show notes

Bob reads a historian’s analysis of what the Pilgrims really ate on that first Thanksgiving some 400 years ago.

On the way to a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, Andrew spots a Military Tank in front of an Armory, leading to a spirited discussion of our history and what it tells us about our species. Sounds like a heavy topic, but we keep it lighthearted.

Our Pandemic update deals with breaking news of a new Covid variant being found in Africa, that just might make us wish we had a plan to vaccinate the entire world. On the other hand, it’s nice to know we’re still working on deflecting asteroids if they get here before the plague.

Bob compares the media spectacle of controversial trials to The Roman Empire’s feeding lions in the Coliseum. As in, not very Fair and Balanced.

Bob and Zip are already deep into the Peter Jackson “Beatles: Get Back” series on Disney plus. It’s fun to watch each Beatle pitch songs to the rest, while one annoying bossy Beatle tries to run the show. I’ll let you guess, but it was not John, George or Ringo.

Andrew Rivers takes his Thanksgiving Break in Vermont and our back porch smells like skunk.

Since we’re in a Beatle mood, we close with a clip of a John Lennon song that did not make “Get Back”, and Spike and the Impalers version of “I Am The Walrus.”

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Nov 18, 2021 Nov 18, 2021
    Show notes

With Ed Kelly in Detroit, it’s not surprising he’s familiar with the new Ford Mustang Mach-E. Will it give Tesla a run for its money?

Bob went electric car shopping with son Keith in LA, and test drove it. Sure it goes from 0-60 in a hiccup… but the real eye-opener was finding a charging station.

We try to humbly discuss the limitations of our human brains when it comes to statistics. We are simply not wired to see the big picture.

A troll on Facebook tells Bob that you are 100 times more likely to die of something else than Covid. We whip out our 2nd grade math skills to rebut that misinformation. Spike joins in, and we push his Trump buttons a little bit.

When you read about Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Roger Daltry dissing each other’s bands… is it real or fake?

Drug overdoses hit a new record thanks to Fentanyl. We’re glad that none of us know how to get any, and that it wasn’t around for our “stupid years”.

And while in LA, Bob goes to a cool rock club (The Canyon, Agoura Hills) and sees a grungy band on a Sunday night. Aside from being the oldest person there, drinking a non-alcoholic beer, he is shocked when he realizes who they are.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Nov 12, 2021 Nov 12, 2021
    Show notes

Bob is in Palm Springs, Zip in Massachusetts, and Ed in Detroit.

We tackle buzz words like “Triggered” “Gaslighting”, and “Woke”. We note that there are already accurate words to describe these things. But it’s important to learn how we flip each other off in contemporary terms.

None of us even know what a SPAC is, but Donald Trump has one, and it’s a big deal.

INFLATION has been rearing its ugly head. What causes it? (Hint: 2 years of rolling the printing presses of free cash, and a pandemic that created huge demand for low supply didn’t help).

Zip randomly starts talking about Tom Selleck, and we guess his Net Worth.

We are saddened by the passing of Moody Blues Drummer Graeme Edge.

Stay tuned after the Twisted Tune for a classic Bob Spike and Joe interview with the Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Nov 4, 2021 Nov 04, 2021
    Show notes

We shout out to our friends from Heart: Steve Fossen, Mike Derosier and Heart By Heart, and Roger Fisher and Ann Wilson, who actually let bygones be bygones and got on stage together. Some thought we’d ice skate in Hades before that would ever happen.

Our mission is to try to talk about things you hear about, but not say what everybody else says.

It’s hard, because we’re all programmed with talking points that support the narratives we believe. For example: Let’s be honest that Sleepy Joe Biden is now an earned nickname.

Thanks to my Maple Syrup buddy Hank for being the first to gloat. On the bright side, napping is good for you at any age.

Radical Centrist Bob gives his Liberal friends some tough love on just how bad this looks for 2022 and 2024. Spike O’Neill joins in with his favorite talking points, and everyone gets their ‘nads busted.

Ed Kelly brings impartiality as Walter Cronkite, and he and Spike do dueling Dr Phil’s.

Zip is eligible, but still no booster shot. Bob is a vaxxaholic.

We’re grateful to be largely sober after all these years, and Spike divulges personal accounts with one- not so lucky- Layne Staley.

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Oct 28, 2021 Oct 28, 2021
    Show notes

This week we are so honored to have Jodi Brothers as our special guest. We let her know that an occasional cuss word is OK.

We read an email from a listener about Ed Troyer. We love Ed, and we love Black Lives. We don’t love the media circus – so we will leave it to the court to decide on his misdemeanor charges.

Elon Musk made 36 Billion Dollars in one day. Should we tax the rich more? It’s an overwhelmingly popular idea with the other 98%.

Bob talks about what it was like to be in the highest tax bracket in the good old days.

How much of its streaming revenue does Spotify pay out? You’ll be surprised it’s such a high percentage, but there is a catch. Kudos to Zip for sniffing it out.

Andrew Rivers joins in to complain about his daddy issues again, and he does also have some great jokes, when he’s not hawking his new album, “For The Wrong Reasons”.

We give a shout out to our 2 newest Patreons, Doug and Ed. Won’t you help us get a producer by dropping $8 a month into our tip jar? Patreon.com/bobrivers

Bob and Zip Show with Ed Kelly – Oct 21, 2021 Oct 21, 2021
    Show notes

With Ed Kelly shooting a film for several days, Spike O’Neill was kind enough to fill in, and he charges right in like a Bull in the proverbial China Shop.

We do talk about Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer, who is a friend we’ve had a long and solid relationship with. His misdemeanor charges are making national news in these divisive times.

These divisive times. That’s the theme of this podcast. It seems all media has a profit motive to force us to take sides, and fight each other, instead of trying to find common ground.

Be careful before you open any email at work, or anywhere for that matter. Ransomware is rampant. and both Bob and Spike have clicked on Phishing tests, and take remedial training repeatedly.

Elon Musk, the guy who makes self-driving cars, is terrified of artificial intelligence. Right now it’s convenient that machines are getting smarter, but how long before they take over? How long before self-driving cars are measurably safer than human driven vehicles?

We close with a tribute to a departed friend and artist Pam Tobiason, who sang on Twisted Tunes, performed with Daddy Long Legs, and also recorded an album with Bob in the early 90’s. See if you agree that it’s that darn good.
