    #210: Inside Chris Mocko’s Brain Aug 18, 2020
    Show notes

This week on The BibRave Podcast, we welcome back former professional runner and host of The Mocko Show, Chris Mocko! We talked to Chris on the show about a year ago, and a few months later (after a solid showing at Western States) he made the difficult decision to leave professional running.

Voting is officially open for The BibRave100! Vote today for your favorite distance category races before August 31st. 🎉 We can’t wait to see who comes out on top!

Tim and Chris talk a lot about what went into making his difficult running career call, what factors he considered, and what challenges were part of being a professional runner. Chris is a super analytical and thoughtful guy who’s unique because he doesn’t let those internal deliberations prevent him from making big (and risky!) moves. They talk about a few decision-making paradigms, with a lot of emphasis on the risks of NOT doing something versus doing.

Tim and Chris’ conversation is a bit heavier than some of Chris’s other interviews, but we found it to be super interesting and substantive!

For a deeper podcast dive, check out this week’s show notes 📝! And if you enjoyed this episode, we would love it if you could leave us a review on iTunes!

#209: How to Eat for a Healthy Brain - Sports Nutritionist Roxanne Vogel Aug 14, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode of The BibRave Podcast features an interview with special guest, Roxanne Vogel! Roxanne is a Nutrition and Performance Research Manager at GU Energy Labs, a Brooks Running Trail Athlete, and one hell of an adventurer.

Voting is officially open for The BibRave100! Vote today for your favorite distance category races before August 31st. 🎉 We can’t wait to see who comes out on top!

Because Roxanne is a sports nutrition expert, Tim and Jess talk a lot about nutrition with her. They discuss the strengths and weaknesses of many different diets and eating styles, inflammation, and eating for a healthy brain. The trio also dives into the pros and cons of body composition testing, what the best tools are for measuring body composition, and of course, they talk about food - lots and lots of food, with particular attention being paid to kimchi and the benefits of probiotics.

#208: Are We Too Reliant on Running Tech? Aug 07, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode of The BibRave Podcast features a timely conversation about running technology with Tim, Jess, and Andy! After the recent Garmin Connect crisis and subsequent Strava blackout, runners everywhere were forced to look inward and consider how out of character their reliance on running tech had become.

This week’s episode is brought to you by Another Mother Runner’s Many Happy Miles! This is a 12-month program containing unique workouts to keep you motivated and moving. You can use the new Many Happy Miles app to access all of the workouts, challenges, on-demand strength videos, community support, and other surprises in one handy place. Sign up today and receive your fun surprise welcome gift! 🎁

In our episode, the trio discusses the technological items (hardware and software) that come with them on every run, and how much “control” these tech devices have over their running lives. Some runners are more data-driven than others, but when you consider music streaming apps, audiobooks, podcasts, and headphones, most runners are pretty reliant on a wide array of “tech” to power their runs. And if we’re not careful, those devices and apps can start to play an outsized role in our daily miles!

For a deeper podcast dive, check out this week’s show notes 📝! And if you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a review on iTunes! It helps the show get discovered and allows us to reach even more content-hungry runners 😉.

#205: When Will Road Racing Return? Jul 17, 2020
    Show notes

This week on The BibRave Podcast we bring you a conversation about the future of road racing with Patrick McInerney. Patrick is VP of Engagement and Innovation at EnMotive, a tech platform that powers a TON of events across the country, from your local 5K to 40,000-person events like Hot Chocolate Chicago, along with some crazy-successful virtual races.

EnMotive either owns, operates, or provides tech solutions for races in countless markets in North America, so he has unique insight into what’s happening to road racing and what we can expect in the future. Tim, Jess, and Patrick discuss when we can return to in-real life events, the economics of a race and the countless liabilities race operators face, the fact that most races LOSE money on expos, the future of expos, and what a successful virtual event entails.

There’s definitely some good news and some bad news in this episode, but it’s a very real, honest conversation with someone who knows a ton about the sport and wants nothing more than to be hosting in-person events soon!

For a deeper podcast dive, check out this week’s show notes 📝! And if you enjoyed this episode, we would love it if you could leave us a review on iTunes!

Before we chat all things racing, there are only two weeks left for you to nominate your fav races for The BibRave 100! 🎉 Take a look at the last decade and be sure you nominate the best of the best!

#204: Courtney Dauwalter - Nothing is Far Enough Jul 10, 2020
    Show notes

On this week’s episode of The BibRave Podcast we welcome the absolutely incomparable Courtney Dauwalter to the show! Courtney is most famous for winning races OUTRIGHT (in one case beating the fastest male in a 240-mile race by 10 hours 👀), setting course records, and winning some of the highest-profile trail races in the world (Western States, UTMB).

Before we jump into Tim and Jess’s convo with Courtney, did you know that The BibRave 100 nomination period has officially opened? 🎉 Nominate your favorite races from the last decade - only the best of the best will make the list!

Tim, Jess, and Courtney talk about what keeps Courtney going farther, always pushing to see what her body can do, and rarely worrying about winning or competition for competition’s sake. They talk about identifying good pain versus bad pain (as part of a story of when she lost her sight mid-race!), what she wishes for the trail running industry and sport, and obviously some fun food and personal stories.
