    On today’s episode Bingham Group Senior Consultant Paul Saldaña, and CE A.J. Bingham update on discussions around Austin’s Palm School. Located at Cesar Chavez and I-35, Palm School was Austin’s second elementary school, and served generations of students from the city’s Mexican-American community during its 84 years. Travis County is considering whether to put the building up for sale or a long-term lease, and there are some who don't want its cultural history gone.

    On today’s episode we speak with Easy Expunctions CEO and Founder Yousef Kassim. Easy Expunctions is a San Antonio-based legal technology start up providing background check and expunction/nondisclosure services. Their legal records search algorithms allow clients to know what (if any) charges they have against them, and what can be expunged. Additionally, they provide the necessary legal forms and filing instructions directly to the client. The overall process provides a significant savings to the client (in the thousands) as well as empowering people who may not have experience with the court system. In April 2018 they won Austin-based Capital Factory's $100,000 Startup Challenge. As part of the package, the firm received space at Capital Factory (located in downtown Austin).

Bingham discuss the Affordabilty Unlocked resolution, passed unanimously by Austin’s City Council on February 21, 2019. The overall objectives contained in the resolution are to: Maximize affordable housing; Make it easier and less costly to build affordable housing; and Allow affordable housing in high-opportunity areas and areas facing and susceptible to gentrification City staff have no later than May 9 of this year to present a draft ordinance to Council. She and A.J. also discuss the overall model of for profit affordable housing, and its fit in the Austin development community. Megan is a graduate of Oklahoma State University (B.S. Engineering).     Episode 38: Texas School Finance with Austin ISD CFO Nicole Conley Mar 13, 2019

    “Austin is the single largest payer of recapture in the state.” - Nicole Conley On today’s episode we speak with Nicole Conley, Chief Financial Officer for the Austin Independent School District (AISD). In this role Nicole is responsible for AISD’s $1 billion+ annual operating funds and the over $800 million Bond program. She and Bingham Group CEO A.J. Bingham discuss AISD’s current fiscal position, the significant state mandated recapture (or Robin Hood) plays, and the what that means for the district. Under this system local tax dollars from property-rich districts, like Austin, are redistributed to property-poor districts. In Fiscal Year 2019, AISD anticipates the district will submit $669.6 million to the state in recapture funds. This amount is expected to increase by $115 million in Fiscal Year 2020. Both Texas House and Senate have put forth budget proposals to increase overall spending on public schools. This episode was recorded on February 20, 2019.

Bingham discuss what his approach will be on the commission, as well as thoughts on a pending second try at a land use code re-write. Prior to his current role, Patrick served as the Director of Planning & Development Services for the City of San Angelo (TX), and the Assistant Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of San Antonio.
