Major League Soccer is completely changing its schedule! 🤯
The league's owners have officially voted to transition MLS to a summer-to-spring calendar starting in 2027, aligning with most of the world's top leagues. What does this massive shift mean for the American game, player transfers, the playoffs, and the fan experience?
On this episode, we break down the most significant structural change in MLS history with one of the best in the business, the legendary soccer journalist Jonathan Tannenwald of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
We dive into:
-
The PROS and CONS of moving the season from August/July through May.
-
The impact on the global transfer market and the ability to attract top talent.
-
What the "transition" season in 2027 will look like.
-
The perennial problem of winter weather for northern clubs.
-
Why this move is Don Garber's legacy.
This is a must-listen episode to understand the new era of Major League Soccer!
