You’re probably familiar with sex trafficking which has been publicized in the mainstream media as a widespread horror that traffics thousands of women and young girls into sex slavery. It’s an issue that the right and left have “joined forces” to combat and have raised millions of dollars to combat.

Well. We are skeptical.

And upon further examination of data and police reports, it appears sex trafficking is nowhere near as common in the United States as you may think. That’s why we are joined by Elizabeth Nolan Brown of Reason Magazine to debunk the common themes and misconceptions of sex trafficking. While we don’t agree with Elizabeth on everything, she is an expert on sex policy.

Elizabeth’s extensive research exposes the “myths” surrounding one of the biggest public awareness campaigns in recent history and how the issue has been severely misunderstood by the right and the left. She also recommends what people interested in supporting charities that oppose sex trafficking should look for if they’re interested in making sure their funds go to the right place.

Governor "Hot Spot" Cuomo is at it again. After praising the thousands of Black Lives Matter protests, the Governor is going after a concert for the popular band the Chainsmokers.

We also visit some more lies of the New York Times and set the record straight using our favorite tool the Worldometer. It's truly incredible how far the media will go to push the narrative that the United States is the worst country affected by the coronavirus!

Our good friend John Waters made a splash last week with his viral video exposing the lunacy behind the cult-like mask wearing that has taken over the world. The video was retweeted by James Woods and many others and has created quite the splash! We speak with John about the video and why he believes that there's much more to the cultural push behind mask wearing than you might think. He also explains why the video was taken in the first place and how an asthmatic in Ireland faced controversy when they refused to wear a mask.

We also discuss with John the new disappointing decision in the Supreme Court that allows the discrimination against churches in Nevada to stand. Why do casinos have more rights to open in Nevada than churches?

Finally we discuss the latest insanity in Los Angeles where business owners were fined for having "We're Open" signs outside their businesses. You won't believe the story of these heartless California bureaucrats who punished business owners who were already struggling.

Never let a crisis go to waste! Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has a new list of demands for the federal government to account of LA's massive budget shortfall due to the pandemic. Los Angeles, like most of California, is still in lockdown. Garcetti's city also is now considered one of the biggest hot spots in the country for coronavirus. The Mayor's wish list is long and includes radical demands like UBI (Universal Basic Income), extended unemployment insurance, and more.

We also discuss the latest on the WHO! It's a good thing President Trump decide to withdraw taxpayer funding for the organization . . . one leader of the group was caught pushing pro-China conspiracy theories. You have to hear this story that further shows the WHO may be bought and paid for by China.

Also on today's episode we discuss politicians flip-flop on masks, a shocking "bull stat" from the NHS, the risk of dying of COVID if you're under 45 and much more!

It’s week 18 of the “two week” pandemic lockdown and it’s nearly August! Kids should be thinking about going back to school but in a lot of the country they won’t be. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom has made it nearly impossible for students to return to in person classes and in Los Angeles nearly 33% (one THIRD) of all students never logged on to an online class.

The pandemic is robbing students of years of learning and critical socialization with their peers. On today’s podcast we’re joined by Lindsey Burke who is the Heritage Foundation’s top education expert. She shows how lawmakers can use the pandemic to radically change education for the better but the reality is that Unions are in danger of changing education policy for the worse.

Lindsay points out that the closures are an opportunity to implement school choice legislation that could allow students to return to class even if their local districts refuse to open. Thats Freedom. The “science” about reopening is very clear -- students are not at risk of COVID-19 and teachers are at a minimal risk. Countries around the world have reopened their schools and yet the United States is behind because of partisan politics.

Leftist teachers unions have taken advantage of the pandemic to advance their own radical agendas, including the California teachers’ union that produced a “wish list” for the future of education in the state. Lindsey also fills us in on some of the more innovative approaches to education around the world, including “pods,” education vouchers, and school choice legislation.

Also on today’s episode we correct the record on the late John Lewis. It's a story you won't see anywhere else. Although he spent much of his early life advancing the noble causes of Civil Rights, he later squandered this political capital lying and accusing Tea Party supporters of calling him racist names. Phelim remembers how his friend Andrew Breitbart led the fight to expose the slur.

In the latest Cuomo scandal, Chris Cuomo's wife, Cristina, was caught exercising indoors at a Jimmy Choo store, in close quarters with no masks! These people who make the rules and shame others for not following them, don't follow the rules themselves.

Also on today's episode we go across the pond do discuss some great news from Britain. Britain has secured nearly 100 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is down playing the victory -- but it's a step in the right direction. Also in the U.K., London's Theater District is struggling to bounce back after the virus. Phelim has some interesting ideas on why one show in particular is struggling.

Lastly we bring you a great piece of art to reflect on pandemic times as well as a brief conversation about unemployment extensions in the U.S.

#51: Casey Diaz of Shot Caller ~ From Los Angeles Gangs to Prison to Jesus Christ Jul 15, 2020

The story of Casey Diaz will shake you to your core. Casey is a former Los Angeles gang member who was sent to one of the most dangerous jails in the country to serve out his sentence. He was a “shot caller” which is a high ranking gang member that is considered one of the most dangerous inmates. Casey’s life was changed when he discovered the power of Christ in prison and his story is an inspiration.

He’s our guest on this week’s Ann & Phelim Scoop and you will be moved by his incredible story. While behind bars, Casey spent the first few years in solitary confinement. There, he had an incredible experience that led him towards Christianity. We don’t want to spoil the tale, so tune into the podcast and read Casey’s book to hear it. Casey is also involved in turning his life story into a film.

He received an offer from a big Hollywood studio in the past, but declined because he knew that Hollywood leftists wouldn’t be inclined to include his story of faith in the film. Casey has told his story in full detail in his powerful memoir The Shot Caller. We cannot recommend this book enough! He also hosts his own podcast The Shot Caller podcast which tells the stories of redemption through Christ.
