Connor holds it down by himself today with a Q&A from his Instagram stories. He got hundreds of questions and picks some fun ones including how to build triceps, the real scoop on protein powder, what to do when you are skinny fat, and how to strike the perfect pose.
Key Takeaways:
[2:03] Q: How do I build triceps like you? How big are your arms? A: Connor’s arms are only about 16 inches, but his super high tricep insertions make them look even larger. A lot of it is genetics, but his tricep routine is basically two pushing exercises — chest press and bench press, one tricep isolation exercise — the rope pulldowns, and that’s pretty much it. If you really want to build up your tricep, Connor recommends doing one exercise where you are hitting the lower head of the tricep (pushdowns), and one where you are hitting the upper head (skull crushers).
[4:12] Q: How many scoops of protein powder do you take per day? A: You do not need to take protein powder to make gains. Sometimes Connor does take it, but usually, it’s just out of convenience. On average, probably .2 to .5 which is about one scoop about twice a week. Instead, try focusing on your total protein intake and total calories.
[5:22] Q: Are steroids necessary to compete in Mr. Olympia? And if yes, please tell when to start taking it. A: Absolutely yes. Be sure to do your research and decide if that is the route you really want to go, and know that every person on stage is on steroids.
[8:31] Q: How long have you been training for?
A: Connor started in calisthenics at the early age of 11, and weight training at 13 years old. If you are just starting out, be patient and consistent.
[10:18] Q: How tall is Connor?
A: Connor is 6’2, and is 207 lbs right now. Don’t Google search for this info, because it’s all screwed up and Connor gets confused with Connor Murphy of the Chicago Blackhawks. Message Connor on Instagram if you know how he can make his own Wikipedia page!
[12:47] Q: How many hours per week do you spend in the gym?
A: Connor works out 6 days a week, and takes one rest day. He gets workouts done so much faster when he leaves his phone out of the workout room. Workouts take 30-40 minutes on average, and it’s not as much time per day as people typically think.

[16:23] Q: When are you going to have a kiss prank with a real kiss? Not just the chocolates, LOL!
A: It feels douchey and cocky! But...that doesn’t mean Connor won’t show up kissing a girl in someone else’s video. [20:32] Q: How do you know how to strike the perfect pose?
A: A ton of practice. Literally, stand in the mirror and practice every day, and you will get to know what your best angles are.
[21:34] Q: If you are skinny fat, should you shred first or bulk first?
A: Absolutely shred first. If you start bulking, you will be above the healthy 18-25% body fat. You want to cut down to 8-10%, and then bulk from there.
[22:23] Q: Are you on Finasteride?
A: Finasteride, also known as Propecia, is probably the best drug for preventing hair loss. The problem is the side effects, as it’s messing with hormones, and Connor noticed less muscle tone and more body fat. So, he stopped taking it but just started doing some stem cell treatments for hair growth and retention, so he will keep us updated with how it goes.
