077 - Annie Miller, How to get anything done Mar 05, 2018
    Show notes

Annie Miller is the next big fitness star, you heard it here first. Annie runs a company designed to help empower women in their fitness pursuit by educating them through their entire training process.

I wanted to have Annie on because I have a deep respect for the work that she is doing it as well as the way she is doing it. Annie is a pretty, young, likeable woman who could very easily grow her social media accounts by posting her butt a lot more often, and she knows it. But Annie refuses to use her looks to grow her following. She wants to bring people in for the right reason, she doesn’t want to have to sift through the crowds of people gathering to admire her appearance to find the ones who want access to the value her brain brings.

In this episode Annie and I discuss what it means to be a young entrepreneur, what the struggles are, what the successes feel like, and what she thinks everyone needs if they want to be successful at whatever they do. For those of you out there who want to start something but you’re afraid you won’t be successful, this episode was created with you in mind.

    076 - Matt Gary - Coaching is not writing a program Feb 26, 2018
    Show notes

Matt Gary is the owner of Supreme Sports Performance & Training in Rockville Maryland where his wife, a 25 time (yes, 25 times) National Powerlifting champion and five time world champion trains and coaches alongside him. The Maryland Powerlifting Association website has a link dedicated to “Matt Gary Articles” on it!

Matt’s humble approach to coaching has earned him the opportunity to be the chairman of the coaching committee for the USAPL. He was the 2012 USAPL coach of the year, and he is a competitive lifter himself.

I was there when Matt suffered a major, life changing injury on the competitive platform while attempting a PR back squat of 501#. He tore just about everything in his leg at the same time and Matt says that this injury has made him a profoundly better coach. In this episode we get into what he means by that. We also talk about what it’s like to coach the most accomplished powerlifter in American history (his wife), and what it takes to coach an athlete who owns a back squat of over 1,000 pounds.

075 - Noah Kagan - When the Guest flips the script Feb 19, 2018
    Show notes

Noah Kagan was the 30th employee at a small company you may have heard of, it’s called Facebook. His podcast “Noah Kagan Presents” is helpful for anyone in the world with a job, and his business, Sumo.com and Appsumo.com is directly helping businesses everywhere to gain exposure.

On this episode Noah thought it would be more fun for him to learn more about Active Life. Typically me interviewing guests, well, not today. On this episode Noah got right into it interviewing me! If you are at all curious about the origins of Active Life, what Active Life plans to do, how we intend to help people and change the world, you should absolutely tune into this episode!

You will also want to listen if you want to learn about where our team has drawn influence, inspiration, and initiative from. We get deep on some things like self promotion, impostor syndrome, and the mountain that entrepreneurship and disruptive company building is.

This episode made me want to tell the whole story on a podcast one day, maybe I will.

    074 - Rick Alexander - Applause Waits on Success Feb 12, 2018
    Show notes

Rick Alexander is an entrepreneur, an athlete, an active member of the military, and an author, and he’s really good at all of those things. That’s hard! In this episode we spend a lot of time discussing how Rick decided to write his book “Burn Your Couch”, the experiences that influenced it, and the impact he hopes it will have on the world.

Rick is the kind of guy who would rather run the 12 miles to work than drive his Mercedes in the morning. He thinks in a way that I find very different than most people and because of that, this episode carries a unique tone to it that I think you will enjoy.

    073 - Marcus Filly - Look Good, Move Well Feb 05, 2018
    Show notes

Marcus Filly joins us on the podcast! As a CrossFit Games veteran, a lifelong learner, and a good looking, well moving man himself, Marcus is able to draw from experience when he coaches athletes who come to him and his team to look good and move well.

In this episode Marcus gets personal with us. We talk about topics like; what it takes to be a great coach, the value of having a coach, building a social media account, and of course, how to look good and move well.

This was an especially enjoyable episode to record because Marcus is a deeply thoughtful person. He is smart, he is self aware, and he really wants to help people around him become better while becoming better himself.

If you are asking yourself “why would Dr. Sean interview Marcus, doesn’t he run a company that competes with Active Life?”, the answer is simple, no, and if he was it would be even more valuable to have him on. Without competition growth stunts.

072 - Jason Phillips - How to Know if you are overtraining and what diet has to do with it Jan 29, 2018
    Show notes

Overtraining is a major issue for athletes who participate competitively in any sport. It has found its way into recreational fitness as well with the rise of competitive class models for fitness. Overtraining can lead to various different health complications and it can play a major role on your ability to perform everywhere from the workplace to the bedroom.

“Most people don’t know what it feels like to feel good when they wake up in the morning!” Jason said on this episode. Jason Phillips owns IN3, a nutrition coaching service that manages for the practical application of nutrition knowledge for its clients. In this episode Jason and I speak about how to know if you are overtraining and what you can do with your diet to combat some of the negative issues associated with it. 071 - James Maskell, Save $12,000 and get better healthcare in one hour Jan 22, 2018
    Show notes

This is the most important episode we have ever done. The work James is doing will change the world as we know it if he is successful. And we are firmly in his corner! This is not one of those sexy episodes where you are going to change how you train, learn how to run faster, or gain insane movement capacity. But this is the first episode we have ever done which, if you take action, can literally make you $12,000 today. That’s not a joke, there is no catch. If you listen to this podcast and spend an hour of your time making the necessary changes, you could save $12,000 on your health insurance in 2018. If you are a single payer and your bills don’t even amount to $12,000 that’s even better, imagine cutting your costs by 70% and getting better service from the doctors you are seeing.

The current medical model is built to solve the problems of yesteryear. The doctor’s office is no longer always the best first line of defense when something goes wrong. James has an incredibly refreshing way to look at solving the healthcare crisis facing Americans, his solution could just change the way we all interact with our doctors forever.

069 - Adee Cazayoux - Change your body without counting macros Jan 08, 2018
    Show notes

Adee is back! You always thought that you had to count every calorie if you were ever going to lose weight or gain weight, but what if that isn’t actually true? On this episode Adee blows my mind (as usual) by opening my eyes to how people need to change what their perception is about how to drive real change through diet. If you have avoided working with a diet coach, this interview with the owner of Working Against Gravity might just change your mind. Get the change you want, you deserve it… If you’re willing to take action to get it.

068 - Dr. Lindsey Mathews: BirthFit and Why Peeing in your workouts isn’t funny, it’s a problem. Jan 01, 2018
    Show notes

Dr. Lindsey Mathews is the owner and founder of BirthFit, a company dedicated to helping expecting moms and new moms prepare for the rigors of labor and return to a healthy life thereafter. BirthFit is also doing great things for many women’s health issues related to fitness that are often overlooked. Didn’t think you could get rid of that diastasis Recti? You may be wrong. Did you know that the way you breathe can have a massive impact on your ability to brace your pelvic floor? This episode was a mind opener for me and I think that you will find it the same. If you have kids, know someone who has kids, or coach someone who has kids, and especially if you are a mom, you need to listen to this episode.
