    S2E75 – Soul Asylum "Hang Time" - w/Mark Dubin & Dan Bonebrake Sep 01, 2019
    Show notes

A contentious foursome gathered before anxious, sweaty microphones to pontificate conversely about the relative merits of Minneapolis underdogs Soul Asylum's A&M debut, "Hang Time." Some found it full of promise, hope, and the scent of newly-mown grass, while others found that it smelled like the grass after horses digested it, and derivative of odious chumps like Aerosmith. You will HAVE to decide for yourself. Please support our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH?

    DUPLICATE SPOTIFY – S2E74 – The Beatnigs – w/Popmaster Fabel & Camila Risso Aug 24, 2019
    Show notes

THIS IS A DUPLICATE TRACK TO FIX A PROBLEM WITH THE SPOTIFY STREAM. Camila Risso gets us on the horn with one of the originals, Popmaster Fabel, whose "pioneering individuality has been showcased internationally since 1982. President of the Hierophysics Theater Group, Senior member of the Rock Steady Crew and proud member of the Electric Boogaloos." He picked an amazing gem from Jello Biafra's Alternative tentacles label, the industrial/funk/rap monster that is "The Beatnigs."

S2E73 – Jerry Lee Lewis Live at The Star Club – w/Jack Rabid Aug 17, 2019
    Show notes

Jerry Lee Lewis Live at The Star Club Hamburg is the greatest live album you've never heard. It's white hot, and The Big Takeover kingpin Jack Rabid comes onboard our leaky vessel to paddle for the far shore with a Whole Lotta insight about this here affair. S2E72 - Steely Dan "Pretzel Logic" with Garry Messick Aug 09, 2019
    Show notes

Garry Messick comes in wth a killer classic by the divisive, polarizing duo of the late Walter Becker and the curmudgeonly Donald Fagen – AKA Steely Dan. Love them or hate them, you Can't Buy A Thrill better than listening to us rubes chew the fatback over this slab of alternately snarky and touching vignettes. Thanks again to our sponsor http://isthistomorrow.com, and please support our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH?

    S2E71 – The Stranglers – "Black and White" Aug 03, 2019
    Show notes

With the cancellation of a guest due to a case of having to go to banjo camp (NOT a euphemism), Rob Elba and Barry Stock grabbed this one off the shelf, an album that ought to be in YOUR collection if it's not. The Stranglers are singular, weird, perfect, a force of nature – just not an entirely benevolent one. Four aural sculptors, five fucking stars.

    S2E70 – Kiss "Destroyer" – with Juan Montoya Jul 26, 2019
    Show notes

KISS superfan and for-real metal guitarist deluxe Juan Montoya brings every 1976 teenage boy's rock and roll fantasy disc to That Record Got me High's monthly Live at Laser Wolf show. The deep philosophical lyrical content really has us scratching our beards and/or razor stubble, and we smoke pipes and drink cognac while scrunching up our foreheads. At the end we break out the acoustics and kick three KISS covers in the head, real hard. Thanks Juan Montoyer!

    S2E69 – PULP – "Different Class" Jul 18, 2019
    Show notes

Flat out one of the best albums we've talked about on our show, a masterful work of sinister, dark pop from Jarvis Cocker and his ensemble Pulp. The combination of classic pop structures and Cocker's shatteringly candid observations about goings on within and without the human organisms in his orbit combine for a very, very interesting ride. S2E68 – Sylvester "Step II" – with Bobbie Jo Jul 11, 2019
    Show notes

Our friend Bobbie Jo from up the block brings in her disco album and turns us on to one of the genres greatest talents, the flamboyant and gifted Sylvester. "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" is the track most of us are familiar with, but the rest of the album mixes harmonically ambitious dance tracks with gospel-tinged soul and stellar vocal performances. It's 1978, do you know where your dancing shoes are? Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH? Visit our sponsor: http://isthistomorrow.com/

S2E67 - Cheap Trick "Heaven Tonight" with Jill Definis Jul 04, 2019
    Show notes

This week we are joined by Punk Jill, Jill Definis, drummer for the Pop Skulls, world-class cynic (according to Rob) and Cheap Trick aficionado. We all pretty much give up on any kind of criticism of one of all of our favorite albums, the insanely great Heaven Tonight. Drinks are had, good and bad words are said, and we enjoy the heck out of this piece of wonderment. Support our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH?
