Are you a music obsessive? Can you sit down for an hour or so poring over an album you love, digging deep into the lyrics, musical references and ‘secret sauce’ that makes it so special to you? Then this just MIGHT be your podcast!
Each week your host – rock-n-roll lifer and recovering punk Rob Elba – sits down with a special guest to dissect a record that – metaphorically – got them high.

S2E85 - Naked Raygun "Throb Throb" w/Frank McCormick and Jeff Pezzati Nov 09, 2019
    Show notes

We had the extreme fortune to have Naked Raygun frontman and prime mover Jeff Pezzati join guest Frank McCormick for a discussion of an iconic Chicago album, Naked Raygun's "Throb Throb," whose cover you have seen in a cool friend's collection even if you don't own it yourself. S2E84 – DEVO "Q:Are We Not Men?" w/Malcolm Tent Nov 02, 2019
    Show notes

The ultimate spud – Malcolm Tent – self-professed maximum Devo connoisseur, brings their shocking, unprecedented debut album for us to wonder at and cheerfully dissect. There's a fair amount of "self-abuse" in both the albums's lyrical content and in our discussion, but we tee up for a Par 4 on the Back 9 with Malcolm and Chi Chi Rodriguez with Q: Are We Not Men? We are DEVO. Please support TRGMH on Patreon for as little as $1 per month: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH? S2E83 - X "Los Angeles" with Bill Howard Oct 26, 2019
    Show notes

That Record Got Me High welcomes their tallest guest – Bill Howard – local (commercial, no sales to the public please) nursery owner and notorious former SFL bouncer to our monthly Live at The Laser Wolf show. He brings an album we all love, X's Slash Records debut, "Los Angeles," which is a start-to-finish barn burner. If you bring Bill a pizza he'll give you back your fake ID. S2E82 - Neutral Milk Hotel "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" w/ Ferny Coipel of Humbert Oct 19, 2019
    Show notes

Support our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH? The beloved unofficial Mayor of Hialeah, Florida – Ferny Coipel – whose incredibly lazy band Humbert gives occasional stellar live shows, is in love with Anne Frank, by proxy, in the guise of Neutral Milk Hotel's 1998 tender monolith, "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea." We do our best to not f*ck up this work that many hearts and minds love with an undying passion. Coffee was consumed, beer was drank, and after all, it's Hialeah.

    S2E81 - Ministry "Psalm 69" with Richard Vergez Oct 12, 2019
    Show notes

Please support TRGMH on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH? Local artist Richard Vergez grew up in Miami and at the age of nine forced his father - with threats of extreme violence - to buy him Ministry's ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ (Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs) on cassette. Richard found the album complemented his desire for raw power and world domination. He called us and made us an offer we couldn't refuse, so we spent an hour and change with the industrial/metal epic and artist Dick Vergez ("Vair - haze." Say it right!)

S2E80 – Brian Eno "Here Come the Warm Jets" w/Peter Prescott (Mission of Burma, Minibeast) Oct 05, 2019
    Show notes

Providence, Rhode Island used record dealer and drummer/guitarist for a few obscure New England bands (Mission of Burma, Volcano Suns, Kustomized, Minibeast) Peter Prescott brings Brian Eno's debut solo album to That Record Got Me High. It's a humdinger, and we all get reacquainted with just HOW influential this work really was (and is). That "Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno" character has the groceries, and he's bringing them home. Get out there and help unload the station wagon. S2E79 – Alice Cooper "Killer" with Steven "Mr. Entertainment" Toth Sep 28, 2019
    Show notes

Steven Toth of Mr. Entertainment & The Pookiesmackers brings the first album he ever bought, literally, he actually brings the album, Alice Cooper's 1972 masterpiece "Killer." John Lydon calls it "the greatest rock and roll album of all time." We don't argue with his assessment. Live from the beer closet at The Laser Wolf with host Chris Bellus. S2E78 – Swell Maps "A Trip to Marineville" with Nadeem Khan Sep 21, 2019
    Show notes

An album named for a television series about underwater militaristic puppets with fake American accents. A Pakistan native whose family drove from England back to Pakistan and then came back to England in a midget submarine. Nadeem Khan of Chimp Eats Banana, The Wildtones, Tandoori Knights et. al. brings Swell Maps insane, fantastic, influential debut "Trip to Marineville" to our show. Please support our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH?

    S2E77 – R.E.M. "Reckoning" – with Tom Lawery Sep 14, 2019
    Show notes

Brookesville, Florida native Tom Lawery – who Barry Stock really should have known but didn't until now – drove over from St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) to bring us R.E.M.'s 1984 sophomore set, "Reckoning." It's an album that has done more than stand up over time, it seems to have actually gotten better. It's not all hagiography in our episode with Tom, but this record got us all high. S2E76 – The Fall "Dragnet" – with Jeffrey Weaver Sep 07, 2019
    Show notes

Erudite and suavé Jeffrey Weaver, a patron, brings to our slash and blab idiot ambulance a circular vinyl sword aimed straight at the heart of everything in its path, The Fall's second full-length album, "Dragnet." Like a good sandwich monger he pulls from his mental meat wagon the proverbial goods, and we try and follow along while scribbling dimwitted cartoons on our vodka-sodden desks.
