WEDNESDAY WISDOM: Sense Memory — with Alyshia Ochse Oct 16, 2019
    Show notes

Everything we perceive, interpret, and ultimately feel in life is filtered through our five senses, and stored in our subconscious with sense memory. Our imaginations are fueled by life experiences. Building our emotional muscles to their full potential is just as important as developing our physical and vocal muscles. This is the key to both our physical and emotional life as actors. Without sense memory, we cannot act. Please subscribe to That One Audition on Apple Podcasts and follow us on social media: LINKS:

096: Travis Van Winkle — An Ascending Loop of Frustration and Mastery Oct 15, 2019
    Show notes

Today's guest entered his on-camera career after being eliminated from the first round of a reality TV show. Little did he know how one small connection from this otherwise absurd and hilarious experience would open the door to a creative career that would force him to examine his humanity and the world around him. Travis Van Winkle made it to LA with a few hundred bucks in his pocket and the belief that somehow, he would find a career telling stories on camera. He's done just that and more, having appeared in films like Transformers, Friday the 13th, Meet the Spartans, and an even longer list of television roles.

We chat about how his capacity for gratitude has expanded since the beginning days of his career, how a life in this business has encouraged deep personal reflection and growth, and how the jobs he's lost have paved the way to even bigger, better, and more expansive opportunities---like going back to school AFTER his series regular role in THE LAST SHIP.

095: Peter Facinelli — Do Your Best Work, The Subjectivity of Art Oct 08, 2019
    Show notes

For today's episode I'm sitting down with actor Peter Facinelli. Before he was cast as the head of a certain vampire family in one of the highest grossing film franchises of all time, Peter wanted to be lawyer. But after realizing that a life practicing law wasn't at all like what he'd seen on TV, he discovered his love for acting—which as he shares, served his desire for attention, but also to disappear into becoming other people----which he has now done for the past 25 years. From his roles in Twilight, Nurse Jackie, and Can't Hardly Wait, to all the jobs that didn't quite work out, we chat about the subjectivity of art and how one seemingly "lost" job can open the door to even greater opportunities.

Looking back on his 25 year career, he shares how he chooses what to do next, when to say no, and what producing and directing has taught him about giving back.

WEDNESDAY WISDOM: Grace — with Alyshia Ochse Oct 02, 2019

094: Jaime Ray Newman — Collaborating Community in Creativity Oct 01, 2019
    Show notes

When you listen to today's academy award winning guest, you'll likely wonder how she manages to balance executive producing award-winning films, appearing as a series regular and recurring role on multiple TV shows, and raising a one-year-old. The answer, as Jaime Ray Newman shares today, is surprisingly simple. With the help of her creative community and collaborator-husband Guy Nativ, she's managed to build a body of work that captures humanity with breathtaking honesty. From the Academy Award winning short, SKIN, to her upcoming role in the series, LITTE FIRES EVERYWHERE with Reese Witherspoon, she shares her journey and how she's gone from creating her own theatre company at 16 in Michigan, to building a life in Los Angeles telling dynamics stories with prolific artists. As an actress, Newman has been working steadily for almost 20 years. She was a series regular on multiple TV series, including The Punisher for Marvel/ Netflix, Midnight, Texas for NBC, Bates Motel for A&E, Eastwick (based on The Witches of Eastwick) for ABC, Eureka for SYFY, and most recently Midnight, Texas for NBC. Newman will next be seen in the feature film Valley of the Godsdirected by Lech Majewski, starring opposite Josh Hartnett and John Malkovich, and Midnight Climax directed by Joseph Sorrentino.

As a producer, Newman and her husband, filmmaker Guy Nattiv, run New Native Pictures. Their short film SKIN won the 2019 Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short, along with many festivals around the world. It was acquired by FOX Searchlight.
