WEDNESDAY WISDOM: Making Your Own Content (Without Losing Your Mind) — with Matt Del Negro May 28, 2025

Show notes

What happens when an actor stops waiting for the phone to ring—and starts building the damn set themselves?

In this inspiring and action-packed episode, Alyshia sits down with actor, writer, and podcaster Matt Del Negro (City on a Hill, Scandal, The Sopranos, Mayor of Kingstown) to dive deep into what it really takes to get your own project off the ground. From brainstorming with trusted collaborators to navigating Kickstarter campaigns and tax-deductible donations—Matt's doing it all, and he's here to walk us through it.

We explore his latest project, Mickey Brash, a gritty, character-driven indie film with a nostalgic 1970s Midwest vibe and a whole lot of heart. Matt shares how he's balancing creative control with practical limitations and how community—yes, your community—can make all the difference.

Plus, we break down the evolution of his script Mickey Brasch, originally inspired by a TV role from 2013, shaped by feedback from actors like Chris Messina, and now a sharp, funny, father-daughter road movie with serious Blacklist buzz.

STEVEN KRUEGER: Embodying Coach Ben Scott on Yellowjackets May 06, 2025

Show notes

In this episode, Yellowjackets and The Originals actor Steven Krueger takes us on the unexpected journey from aspiring lawyer to full-time actor and, more recently, director. He opens up about the turning point when he realized he didn't want to be a lawyer — he wanted to be James Spader on Boston Legal — and how a brutally honest producer's advice shifted his mindset from "dabbling" in acting to making it a serious pursuit. Krueger gets candid about the value of life experience and education in shaping his craft, and how he built his career brick by brick — including the multiple rounds of auditions it took to land his breakout role on The Originals.

Steven shares hilarious and humbling audition stories, like bombing a Percy Jackson read with a full-blown Cyclops voice, and lessons learned about navigating an industry that's equal parts craft, luck, and timing. He also dives into his evolution as an artist, from feeling creatively stagnant on long-running shows to pushing himself into directing his first short film.

These are the unforgettable stories that landed Steven Krueger right here.
