Episode 78 – CCGs In The House Mar 07, 2016
    Show notes

It’s a Lang-only show, but instead of panicking Dave called in some favors and got some CCGs lined up for what is, without a doubt, the Greatest Episode of All Time (also the longest episode of all time for those scoring at home).

Dave starts off with a DICE summary with Playstation’s Adam Boyes. The guys talk about DICE itself, after hours stuff, and the now infamous Friday night at Omnia. No phone numbers were tweeted out during this segment.

Then, Dave welcomes travel bestie Kelly Wallick to the show to discuss travel, specifically to Japan. They debate the merits of Tokyo and Kyoto, and try to get everyone excited enough about Japan to book a trip there immediately.

After that Dave chats with Justin Woodward about lots of stuff, but mostly his company’s new game that’s up on fig.co right now. This game is CCG approved.

Dave rounds out this monster of an episode with a grip of emails before passing out in a heap on the floor.

    Show notes

The guys then plug the first ever Team GFB Play Date (info here), Dave talks about The Witness (again), before launching into an extended travelogue from his trip to SF.

Darryl had an unexpected trip to Chicago while Dave was out, and his visit coincided with a company Bender, and he did it real big.

They guys wrap the show with four STRONG emails, and manage to plug their PAX East panel in their answers (they are pros).

    Wow, where to even start.

What an episode. Just packed with stuff. Lot’s of stuff. Stuff.

The dudes talk about Valentine’s Day, Chicago Pizza shaped like hearts, PAX East plans, and DICE before getting into Dave’s weekend in Santa Rosa, CA with friends of the show Adam Boyes and John Vignocchi. Some stuff went down.

After that the guys talk Super Bowl, The Witness, video game biz dev analytic tools and the first ever GFB Play Date before shutting down the show with some great emails. Huzzah, what a ride!

    Episode 74 – Unload The Toad Feb 08, 2016
    Show notes

This episode should be titled: Hey go review the show on iTunes, because that’s all we care about this week.

Darryl starts off the show by trying to explain what shipping a game is like for the listeners, Lang attempts to help with a fairly tenuous Shipping analogy.

Then, Dave talks about going to Austin, which of course means this week’s show has a heaping helping of Kraig impersonations in it. You’re welcome in advance. Kraig took Dave the the sexual nexus of Austin, and Dave still doesn’t know what “sexual nexus” means.

Dave talks a lot of PAX, and Summer Slam; he interviewed some people involved with the show, if you’re into behind the scenes PAX Wrestling info.

Darryl then goes over the glory that was the Killer Instinct World Cup, which basically went about as well as anyone could reasonably hope for.

Team GFB Radio – Episode 74 – Unload The Toad

Original Air Date: February 5th, 2016

1:20 – Darryl tries to explain the dog days of video game development, a.k.a. shipping games is hard.

9:45 – Dave starts to chronicle his trip to Austin and San Antonio. Tuesday night one waitress took advantage of his poor eyesight. Let’s never speak of this again.

16:30 – Dave and Darryl ponder what the term “sexual nexus” actually means.

18:50 – Dave gets offered coke. Pretty sure it was a cop.

22:30 – The IG Austin crew hits up Freedmen’s Bar for BBQ, and go drinking on Raney St.

27:00 – Dave discovers Bucee’s, and his life is changed forever.

29:45 – Dave plugs his Snapchat.

32:30 – Dave talks Friday at PAX.

39:30 – Let’s talk some PAX Wrestling Summer Slam with Aaron Trites.

43:00 – Let’s jump into the Baer cave with Pat Baer.

47:00 – Let’s round out the interview section with Khahil Wight.

51:30 – Darryl starts to talk Killer Instinct World Cup. It was super fun!

1:02:00 – Dave had a run-in with Enemy of Show; gets iced.

1:08:30 – Dave starts playing the Witness, is filled with Perplexing Surprise.

    Episode 73 – Ride The Snail Feb 01, 2016
    Show notes

In what can only be described as “fashionably late,” Episode 73 shows up to perplex and surprise you.

Lang speed talks for 60 minutes in this one, mostly because Darryl elected to not contribute. Topics covered include but are not limited to: Honey, Bees, The Witcher 3, honeycomb, Who’s Your Daddy, Mario Maker, Killer Queen, Turbo Bears, and much much more.

Later the guys talk about Adam Boyes’ reaction to the Witcher 3, PAX, KI Cup, and answer some emails. Huzzah, it’s the episode you never knew you wanted.

Team GFB Radio – Episode 73 – Ride The Snail

Original Air Date: January 29th, 2016

1:15 – It’s the first #TeamGFBRadio Full Disclosure Minute, wherein Dave didn’t know we had some recording problems and didn’t disclose that fact.

2:00 – The guys give some advice to the developers of Who’s Your Daddy.

4:00 – Dave is dumbstruck by Darryl’s lack of business experience. This is for reasons we can’t discuss due to #privacyconcerns.

5:30 – In a desperate attempt to fill an hour Dave talks a shit ton about The Witness, The Witcher 3, Bees, Honey (yuck), Killer Queen, eating honey comb, worker bees, and in non-bee related news Secret Hitler and Twilight Struggle. Twist: this segment doesn’t last an hour.

13:45 – Darryl wakes up long enough to ask a Killer Queen question. Dave provides a long-form answer, BECAUSE HE’S SO INTERESTING TO LISTEN TO.

25:30 – The guys react to Adam Boyes’ reaction to The Witness.

28:55 – Dave talks about his (then upcoming) trip to Austin and San Antonio for PAX South and the Killer Instinct World Cup.

42:25 – First Mate Dookie writes in wondering why it’s 2016 and everything still sucks.

47:00 – Cole wants to know what to do in Chicago for his twenty-first birthday. FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK COLE, DAVE HAS SOME THOUGHTS ON THIS TOPIC.

53:00 – Enemy of the show Harris Foster writes in with some AC Unity codes, and Dave goes on to let Harris know he’s going to Austin and has no intention of hitting him up (muhaaa).

1:03:45 – The guys apologize for posting the show later than normal. I wonder if they really meant it.

The post Episode 73 – Ride The Snail appeared first on Team GFB Radio.

    Episode 72 – Let’s Rank It! Jan 25, 2016
    Show notes

This is a heartfelt edition of Team GFB Radio. We laughed. We cried. We planned a wedding for a stranger.

Dave starts by going over the latest Iron Galaxy Mandatory Fun Company Bender, wherein he watched Pacific Rim in the office with Ramon asleep next to him at five in the morning. The guys both started and, get this, finished (!) OXENFREE and have some spoiler-free thoughts on it. Dave has some musings on the show to this point, and Darryl doesn’t seem to appreciate them. Darryl gets Dave up to speed on the world of Lego Dimensions, and there’s some more Ori and Max and the Cursed Brotherhood talk before the guys roll into emails.

There were a lot of emails this week, and they were all good, but one stood out. It’s the one wherein the guys know how they will rebrand Team GFB Radio. Finally.

Team GFB Radio – Episode 72 – Let’s Rank It!

25:00 – Dave has had some thoughts about the show and its format.

29:45 – Dave details Ultimate Guys’ Weekend with his son. Darryl professes his love for Max and the Cursed Brotherhood.

48:00 – Peter gets engaged, and wants the guys to help design his wedding, and the guys come up with a great idea for a podcast rebranding.

1:05:15 – And “Let’s Rank It!” is born.

The post Episode 72 – Let’s Rank It! appeared first on Team GFB Radio.

    Episode 71 – Drunk In A Cornfield Jan 18, 2016
    Show notes

This episode is, as they say, a grower not a show-er. The guys (for some reason) start off talking about their Coravins, then Dave transitions into talking about his new iPhone. This is probably a good time to remind you that without some boring parts in the shows you wouldn’t appreciate the great bits when they occur.

Darryl got a 3D printer and, probably because he’s a good father, decided to make toys for his girls instead of weapons like Dave would have. Then Dave went to LA where he saw his High School friend and comedian Brian Babylon and Multiplayer on Dash curator Alex Rubens, before going to a day trip to Orlando where he packed in too much drinking into too short a time.

Dave played Ori with his 9 year old son, and found it difficult to explain what a Metroid-Vania style game is to him, and why he should care. Darryl played some adventure games and the guys finally played Who’s Your Daddy. Turns out they are both awful dads, but you probably already knew that.

In emails, Dave tells the story of his Oktoberfest in Breese, IL back in 1994 (spoiler: it ends poorly), and the guys answer a question about what some one in Marketing does over the course of a game’s development cycle.

Team GFB Radio – Episode 71 – Drunk In A Cornfield

Original Air Date: January 15th, 2016

1:50 – Dave regrets not having maximum flow.

4:20 – Dave got an iPhone. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.

7:20 – Darryl got a 3D printer and goes deep down the rabbit hole.

17:05 – Trip report: LA and Orlando.

30:55 – Dave and his son play Ori. Darryl gets the Vapors for Metroid in the process.

36:45 – Darryl played Broken Sword 5, the guys talk Dreamfall, and finally play Who’s Your Daddy.

45:25 – Alex fro Munich wants to know if we’ve ever done a proper Oktoberfest. Dave’s not sure but he got electrocuted while drinking once, so maybe?

54:10 – Elliot from Scotland wants to know what Marketing people do on game teams.

    Episode 70 – Dave Got Iced… Again Jan 11, 2016
    Show notes

Turns out when you do an episode without a coherent theme, typing up show notes is kind of a chore. Imagine trying to tie together such disparate concepts/activities as the Plants v. Zombies board game, Witcher 3, fancy wine gadgets, and getting iced.

    LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

If we had achieved this feat we would have received a Pulitzer Prize, I shit you not. Our genius would have been recognized on the global stage. But, instead, we have what you’re reading now.

Oh! They also spent forever on emails. Why did I even get out of bed today?

Team GFB Radio – Episode 70 – Dave Got Iced… Again

Original Air Date: January 8th, 2016

2:45 – It’s the first ever Team GFB Radio Wine Snob minute.

11:00 – Darryl got a Plants v. Zombies board game, and the guys talk board games for a bit.

17:35 – Dave fired up Witcher 3 and Ori and the Blind Forest.

19:30 – Brief Ori spoilers start here.

20:45 – Spoilers end here, and the guys give a Sherlock Holmes update.

23:00 – Lang got iced again.

27:30 – If you work at Iron Galaxy, turn down your radios now please.

31:45 – The guys do some emails. Alex Shea writes in and has some questions about audio stuff in video game development.

37:45 – Adam wants to know if he bought 10M copies of an older game, would anyone even notice? Would that be enough to make a sequel?

40:05 – Paul from Texas wants to know if Dave can be his new dad.

42:00 – Evan starts off with a weak acronym, but recovers with a good question about how people make beats.

49:40 – Raul from Belgium writes in, and Dave forgets the “Worldwide” bit. Also, he wants to talk about how crappy it is to go bald.

55:10 – Colton confirms that Best Buy is the Best Place to buy video capture gear.

57:25 – Wes from Bloomington-Normal sends a mail that he probably regrets.

Episode 69 – New Year, New Resolutions Jan 04, 2016
    Show notes

It’s the first Team GFB Radio of Twenty-Six-Teen! What does that mean?

    More of the same, sadly.

    Dave talks about travel.

The guys make some half-hearted resolutions.

They inject an ill-timed Her Story spoiler cast into the middle of this episode.

And to top it off, somehow Darryl is experiencing his first Steam sale.

    *sigh*

Sorry, everyone. Maybe the guys will come up with some new stuff in 2017.

Team GFB Radio – Episode 69 – New Year, New Resolutions

Original Air Date: January 4th, 2016

2:00 – Dave recaps his 2015 travel stats because he knows you all care.

10:00 – Team GFB Radio makes some New Year’s Resolutions.

18:40 – Dave comes up with a questionable merch idea.

21:30 – Darryl and Dave recap their lame-ass New Year’s Eve festivities.

28:00 – The guys get into some HEAVY “HER STORY” SPOILERS turn ye away lest ye be spoiled.

45:15 – SPOILER CAST OVER. Darryl goes over his Winter Steam sale haul.

53:45 – Darryl and Dave get sucked into the Steam Sale vacuum in real time!
