Powe Corner: Ole Miss beats Kentucky but doesn't cover + the return of Powe's Ed Oregon impression Sep 29, 2022
    Show notes

All-time Rebel football great Jerrell Powe is calling an Ole Miss win over Kentucky on Saturday.

But he doesn't expect the Rebels to cover.

Actually, his full advice? Bet the moneyline and have a good Sunday awash in your spoils, as he details in this edition of Powe Corner, a podcast in association with Talk of Champions and the Ole Miss Spirit, an affiliate of On3.

Plus, Powe isn't pressing the panic button after the Ole Miss defense failed to generate a sack in last week's 35-27 win over Tulsa. They did have 10 quarterback pressures, among other positives.

Tulsa, in many ways, was nothing more than the end of the preseason, anyway. He expects a different level of game — both on the field and in the stands — once the Wildcats roll into town for what will be a matchup of Top 15 and undefeated teams.

Powe also brings back his Ed Orgeron impression to tell a story about why he chose Ole Miss over LSU, as well as identifies the Rebels' current position in the SEC pecking order.

#notcommitted: Former Rebel Walker Jones is leading the Grove Collective now. He has big plans. Sep 29, 2022
    Show notes

The Grove Collective has scheduled an announcement press conference regarding its official, public relaunch for Friday afternoon.

Now leading the charge is former Ole Miss Rebel Walker Jones.

Ole Miss has already emerged as a leading transfer destination for players, and previous NIL efforts are a big reason why. But Jones and the Grove Collective are readying themselves to supercharge the approach.

Jones spills the details (as well as his score prediction for Kentucky) to Zach Berry in an all-new edition of #notcommitted, in association with the Ole Miss Spirit/On3.

Buy or Sell? Ole Miss momentum for four-star RB Dante Dowdell + Zach's Recruiting Attack Sep 28, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss and Kentucky are barreling towards a critical showdown both on and off the field when they face off Saturday at 11 a.m. CT inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Along with their Top 15 matchup with the Wildcats, the Rebels are poised to bring in their largest, and most consequential, group of prospects to date, a few of which Kentucky is after, too.

The most headline-grabbing development is the expected visit of four-star in-state running back and Oregon commitment Dante Dowdell. He's been committed to the Ducks since May, but can Ole Miss change his mind?

A round of Buy or Sell could help clarify things, so Ben Garrett and Zach Berry are back with a relaunch of the Talk of Champions recruiting show, where they're also trying to figure out if now is finally the time for four-star Braxton Myers to make his long-anticipated Ole Miss commitment.

Plus, the debut of Zach's Recruiting Attack, which covers the hottest of hot-button Ole Miss recruiting topics, an update on Malachi Coleman, and why the running back position is more of a priority for Lane Kiffin and staff than you might think.

Franchise Player: Overreaction Monday! Could Kentucky be the Jaxson Dart breakout game? Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss football has won 16 of its last 19 games, including 12 straight at home.

So, what's with all the current hand-wringing?

The Rebels, to be fair, didn't inspire much confidence in their lackluster 35-27 win over Tulsa on Saturday. But Ben Garrett and David Johnson are feeling a little bit better on this Monday than they did in the immediate Tulsa aftermath.

Actually, one believes Jaxson Dart, officially the full-time Ole Miss starter at quarterback, could be in line for the best game of his young Rebel career against Kentucky.

Ben and David discuss in this Overreaction Monday edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

Plus, thoughts on the hot-again Ole Miss football attendance debate and the Rebels rolling out RealTree-themed uniforms for the Wildcats, as well as an extensive early-week injury report.

Time to panic? Well, no, but an uninspiring Ole Miss win over Tulsa isn't ideal Sep 25, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss was better than Tulsa, and the Rebels have now, through four games, checked off the only boxes that matter.

They’re 4-0 and winners of 12 straight home games.

They can’t really do better than that, and they did show some really encouraging signs in a 35-27 win. Head coach Lane Kiffin has also officially named Jaxson Dart his starting quarterback.

But there was a whole, whole lot of bad, too.

Ben Garrett and David Johnson discuss in this postgame edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

Plus, since you’re probably not feeling all that great either, Ben just fawns over true freshman running back Quinshon Judkins some more, Lane Kiffin finally names Jaxson Dart his starting quarterback, David calms nerves with his final word, and helmet stickers are handed out.

That’s Suss! The inevitability of the Ole Miss rushing attack and Nick spawned a supervillain Sep 22, 2022
    Show notes

Thirty players in college football are averaging 95 or more rushing yards per game.

Four of them have worn an Ole Miss uniform at some point in their football career.

So, Ole Miss, Running Back U?

Well, not quite, but it’s impressive nonetheless, especially when you consider the Rebels have the best running game in the SEC through this season’s first three games despite having to replace their top-four rushers from a 10-win team a year ago.

Among the replaced is Henry Parrish, who followed former Rebel running backs coach Kevin Smith to Miami (Fla.). He's one of the 30, but this isn't your grandad's (or even dad's) Ole Miss football.

Far from it, and the Rebels are operating and playing like it, as Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) and Nick Suss (the Clarion-Ledger) discuss in this edition of Talk of Champions.

Plus, Ben surprises himself with the perfect next-stop fit for thirsty Hugh Freeze, middle-school Nick spawns a supervillain and a 10,000-foot view of Ole Miss’ next two games against Tulsa and Kentucky.

‘When football is good, it’s good for everybody’: Mike Clement and a busy fall for Ole Miss baseball Sep 22, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss hosts recruiting visitors for every home football weekend, regardless of opponent.

Lane Kiffin and Co. also share the wealth.

The size of the list fluctuates with the schedule, but prospects can always been found on the sidelines prior to kickoff and in a section of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium exclusively reserved for them.

Typically mixed in with the four and five-stars and their families are targets for other sports, too, and the defending national champion Rebel baseball team is almost always well-represented.

But they won’t be there Saturday, when Ole Miss (3-0) hosts Tulsa (2-1) at 3 p.m. CT.

Mike Bianco’s right-hand men and lead recruiters Mike Clement (hitting coach) and Carl Lafferty (pitching coach) are on the road recruiting in Phoenix, Arizona, and Fort Myers, Florida, respectively.

However, a potential Top 12 showdown with Kentucky next week? Count them in.

“Tulsa’s not as good as Kentucky, so we kind of have to find this balance,” Clement said, in today’s edition of Talk of Champions, an Ole Miss-exclusive podcast in association with the Ole Miss Spirit.

“Laff and I will both be on the road this weekend. We’ll go watch games (of high-school prospects and potential Ole Miss targets). Obviously next weekend is a big weekend (and) kids want to come to campus. It’s a balancing act. I’ve been here eight years now through some really, really good football seasons. Some not-so-good football seasons.

“When football is good, man, it’s good for everybody. It’s good for us, it’s good for basketball, the whole deal. The cool thing about Ole Miss is no matter what the football record is, it’s a pretty good time to come to campus.

“Obviously coach Kiffin has got it rolling. They’re really good.”

Clement also discussed Baseball America ranking the Rebels’ recruiting class No. 2 in the country, the fall intrasquad season opening next week, the plan for two-sport Rebel Tywone Malone and much more.
