‘This (Ole Miss) team is going to be tough to beat’: Back to Powe Corner! Oct 06, 2022
    Show notes

The undefeated No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels (5-0, 1-0 SEC) will look to continue their winning ways Saturday at Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-1).

All-time Ole Miss great Jerrell Powe — like Vegas, which has the Rebels favored by 18 — is expecting a relatively easy win. But where should you put your money?

Powe's the one to ask. Last week he totally called Ole Miss winning, but not covering, against then-No. 7 Kentucky.

Plus, the one-time Rebel defensive tackle‘s thoughts on the lack of involvement for tight end Michael Trigg (“Baby Tony Gonzalez”), Ole Miss not playing down to Vanderbilt, Quinshon Judkins looking like the second-coming of Trent Richardson and much more.

“I would like to see him more involved,” Powe said of Trigg, in this edition of Powe Corner, in association with the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Talk of Champions.

“I want to see him get active. Over the years, we’ve utilized our tight end a lot. I want to see (Trigg) get going.”

Mike Clement: Ole Miss baseball has rings on their fingers, fall ball on their hands Oct 05, 2022
    Show notes

The fall intrasquad season is underway for the defending national champion Ole Miss baseball team.

The Rebels scrimmaged twice in three days over the weekend, and already a handful of newcomers have the attention of Ole Miss hitting coach Mike Clement.

Clement has all the latest in this edition of Talk of Champions, and he also details the challenge of fitting his lineup pieces together, especially with so many of his options strictly limited to first base/designated hitter.

Put simply, Ole Miss needs Kemp Alderman in right field.

Plus, Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) fails in his attempt to pull a batting order from Clement for a hypothetical game tomorrow, and Clement talks a difficult 2023 SEC slate (released Tuesday) and the national championship rings.

Ole Miss targets on commitment watch, ‘Drip U’ and immaculate recruiting vibes Oct 04, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss' most recent football weekend couldn't have gone much better, both on the field and along the recruiting trail.

The Rebels are 5-0 (1-0 SEC) following their 22-19 win over then-No. 7 Kentucky. They're also now universally ranked in the Top 10, and they'll go for win No. 18 in their last 21 when they travel to Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-1) on Saturday

But today on Talk of Champions we're talking exclusively about the Rebels continuing to build on their already-star-studded 2023 recruiting class, boosted by the recent commitment of four-star cornerback Braxton Myers.

Who could be next? Ben Garrett and Zach Berry, who both cover Rebel recruiting for the Ole Miss Spirit/On3, have a couple of candidates, among them four-star safety Marvin Burks.

    Let's get after it.

Daytime Fireworks: Can Ole Miss be a legitimate College Football Playoff contender? Oct 04, 2022
    Show notes

Zach Berry (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) and David Brandt (Associated Press) are back for another round of Daytime Fireworks, but today they're talking expectations for Ole Miss football (5-0, 1-0 SEC) heading into October.

Plus, the firings of Karl Dorrell and Paul Chryst, and a look-ahead to the week-six slate in the SEC.

Franchise Player: Overreaction Monday! Eatin' good, coachin' ball and Ole Miss playoff dreams Oct 03, 2022
    Show notes

Ole Miss is undefeated and ranked inside the Top 10 with a trip to Vanderbilt up next.

So, it's understandable, then, why Franchise Player is considering College Football Playoff scenarios after the No. 9 Rebels (5-0, 1-0 SEC) took care of then-No. 7 Kentucky over the weekend.

If not now, when? It's Overreaction Monday anyway, and Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) and David Johnson (Inside the Rebels/247) aren't stopping there with some hot Rebel takes as we turn to the final two months of the 2022 season.

Like how Ole Miss has to get its snapping issues resolved. Or why the Lane Kiffin-to-Auburn internet chatter is a whole bunch of nonsense. Plus, early final-score prediction for Saturday, and a brilliant Ole Miss shirt idea (Eatin' Good and Coachin' Ball) is born.

    Let's dig in.

ToC Postgame: This Ole Miss team, now 5-0 after beating Kentucky, might be better than last year. Oct 01, 2022
    Show notes

No. 14 Ole Miss moved to 5-0 on the season with a 22-19 win over No. 7 Kentucky on Saturday.

This team of Rebels might be better than last year, when a Matt-Corral-led group went 10-3 and reached the Sugar Bowl for the 10th time in school history.

Ben Garrett and David Johnson are here to convince you non-believers in this postgame edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

Plus, the guys have plenty of praise for both the Ole Miss defense and Rebel fans in general. Ole Miss always supports a winner, and Lane Kiffin and Co. are red-hot.

We've also got helmet stickers to hand out (Quinshon Judkins, again!) and a pick to make on which Rebel won the week. Forget the final stats, because first-year quarterback Jaxson Dart has never looked more in-control than he did against the Wildcats.

Kentucky had been billed as the turning-point game of the season since the 2022 schedule was released months and months ago.

Buckle up. These Rebels may very well be for real.

That's Suss! Have we undervalued Jaxson Dart's success? And Kentucky as the fulcrum point Sep 29, 2022
    Show notes

Jaxson Dart is now the full-time starting quarterback for Ole Miss moving forward.

Granted, he got the nod in three of the team’s first four games, and he was a headline-grabbing transfer addition out of USC in the off-season, so maybe his eventual elevation isn’t much of a surprise. Still, his numbers to this point don’t jump off the page.

The Rebels next host Kentucky Saturday in a matchup of undefeated, Top 15 teams. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.

But don’t be fooled by the stat sheet. As Nick Suss (Clarion-Ledger) explains in this That’s Suss! edition of Talk of Champions, we’ve kind of undervalued Dart’s success thus far.

    Time for a fair assessment.

Additionally, the guys, including Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit/On3, may have identified a problem. Ole Miss hasn’t been able to rely much at all on any home-grown wide receivers through two-plus seasons under head coach Lane Kiffin.

Also, is Kentucky the fulcrum point for the 2022 season?

    Let’s dig in.
