Welcome back, Goblins!

We have a rare episode with not one but TWO GUESTS! Brent Morin climbed up the balcony with his podcast-other-half and fellow Stand up comedian, Jason Collings. Together, they are collectively known as the hosts of The Lions Den Podcast.

Jason, a rookie goblin didn’t come prepared for the heat, so he proceeded to sweat for 90 mins (in a t-shirt). However Brent wore his finest mesh tank top… and just in case that wasn’t uncomfortable enough, he also spends 89% of the episode staring deeply into the camera. The boys get straight into dissecting play-on-word jokes, improvise commercials (cue Brent’s deplorable British accent), and how they’re all coping without Stand Up during these trying times.

Jason reminisces about going on a stadium tour with Russell Peter’s and staying in the same hotels as Drake while Rick drops a joke about Family’s that may get them all canceled. The trio do a great job dissecting comedy audiences and the math of jokes. They also tell the story where they witnessed Rick’s biggest on stage stand up bomb to date and why his set's are sometimes misunderstood.

All in all a wonderful meshing of podcast worlds and worth a watch on youtube, if only for Brent’s intense gaze.

Danny Bilson (The Balcony Series) Jul 06, 2020

Hi Boppers and Goblins! This guest is close to Rick’s heart and family. Danny Bilson is a writer of film, television, and video games. He is also a professor at The University of California. Danny was Rick’s uncle's writing partner, Paul DeMeo, up until Paul’s passing in 2018. This episode is a tribute to Paul, all the brilliant work he did, and the loving dedication he had as a father, husband and amazing uncle.

Paul and Danny had worked together for decades, and their long list of credits include, but is not limited to: The Rocketeer, The Flash, The Sentinel, Viper, and even Medal of Honor multiple James Bond and 007 video games. Their last project together was "Da Five Bloods," which Spike Lee directed and released a couple weeks ago on Netflix. (See the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5RDTPfsLAI)

Rick dives into Danny and Paul's history, how they navigated the complicated Hollywood industry, why Danny’s rollercoaster is a metaphor even he doesn’t understand, and why this last project was so important to Danny and everyone around Paul.

Rick reflects on his time with uncle Paul, and Danny gives insight into how his writing partner/best friend's love of his family permeated into his work meetings (appropriate or not).

She joins us on the balcony, which even doubles as a toilet (to Rick’s moms disdain) and learns to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Sosie reflects on her acting ambitions and how her parents, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, played a part in her decision to start her career at 21, as well as leaving Brown University.

Sosie gets to intimately know our TYSO goblin (or does she?) and Rick does what he does best, by pushing his guests to explain and open up about the things they didn’t know they needed to unpack. They discuss being on set with autistic cast members, how it differs from typical filming projects, and how they use communication tools, both in professional and personal relationships.
