    S1 Ep14: Chapter 14 | Q&A with Kim & Kara May 03, 2023
Show notes In the first question-and-answer episode of SGTC, Kim and Kara take listener questions. Some of the topics include communicating your needs and asking for help before its too late. Grief processing doesn't always just mean death and solo travel tips where feeling the feels makes an appearance. Kim would have two nickels and explains why that's not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Both Kim and Kara were apparently raised on NASCAR, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and America's Most Wanted.

    S1 Ep13: Chapter 13 | Not What I Expected with Avremi Zippel Apr 26, 2023
Show notes Nachos are Kara's favorite food, and you'll all be asking "is the cheese throughout?" the next time you order them. Early interwebs videos, college jobs, and hoping Terry Crews will grace the podcast with an interview someday start this chapter off on an eclectic note before introducing today's guest.
Avremi Zippel joins Kim and Kara for a conversation you'll probably want to listen to a few times to digest all of the wisdom this survivor imparts. His journey through reclaiming his voice, healing his inner child, and forging a new path toward justice for survivors like him provides a unique message that is compassionately delivered.
Rabbi Avremi Zippel was born in Toronto, Canada and moved to Salt Lake City with his parents, in July of 1992. He attended a Jewish High School in Chicago, and attended Rabbinical College in London, England. Rabbi Zippel participated in Jewish outreach and humanitarian missions, in Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Wales, and numerous cities throughout the U.S. He was ordained at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, NJ by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi I.M. Lau, in December of 2013. He married Sheina in January of 2014, and together they moved to Utah later that year, when they created Young Jewish Professionals Utah. They are the proud parents of two adorable little boys.
In February of 2019, Rabbi Zippel publicly came forward about the decade of sexual abuse he had endured at the hands of a childhood caretaker. He is believed to be the first Orthodox Rabbi to publicly speak out about sexual abuse in his past. Since then, Rabbi Zippel has taken a leadership role in combating sexual abuse in religious communities around the world and advocating for survivors. Rabbi Zippel serves his community as the Crime Victim Representative on the Utah Council for Victims of Crime, and was recognized as the Child Advocate of the Year in 2021 by Prevent Child Abuse Utah. His story has been shared in numerous formats, most recently in Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light, a made-for-TV special that aired on Lifetime. He is a sought-after lecturer and mentor to communities around the world. Avremi’s long-awaited memoir, entitled 'Not What I Expected' is now available for preorder and is due to hit shelves in May of 2023.

S1 Ep9: Chapter 9 | Freedom Gets the Final Say with Catie Reay Mar 29, 2023
Show notes What did the buffalo say to his son when he left for college…
Kara's been galivanting around the country delivering keynotes and Kim has been…editing. It's fine. They're fine. Discussion of the TikTok hearings and positive impacts the app has had on Kim and Kara's lives kick off this episode before Catie Reay joins the conversation.
Don't mind the pitter patter of little feet, and what one child would later describe as "a very big picture" falling down in the background. It's all in a happily chaotic day's work for Catie Reay. Catie is a mother of four from Wyoming and in all of her tons of spare time, is also fielding an internet worth of advocacy. She joins Kim and Kara to share her harrowing tale of surviving a religious cult, enduring years of abuse, and healing her own inner child. Unabashedly taking social media platforms and the U.S. government to task, Catie is leading the way for followers to get involved in legislation benefitting survivors, especially children. She is going places, and she's taking all of us along with her.

    S1 Ep7: Chapter 7 | Surviving Epstein with Jess Michaels Mar 15, 2023
Show notes Kim and Kara talk about assigning colors to their feelings, the loneliness of advocacy work, creating community, and launching "Captive Audience" on Patreon with bonus content available now.
This week's guest pulls no punches in describing her recruitment, manipulation, and victimization at the hands of one of the most prolific human traffickers in modern history. Jess Michaels joins Kim and Kara to recount how this professional dancer was groomed and sexually assaulted by Jeffrey Epstein himself. Listen as Jess discloses information about the names you know, the stories you don't, and makes details about the network of conspirators public, for the very first time.
Buckle up, friends--this chapter is sure to leave you speechless.
Jess Michaels is a dance industry professional with 30 years experience as a performer, educator and entrepreneur. She is also a 1991 survivor of sexual assault by Jeffrey Epstein and childhood sexual abuse who was silently tortured for decades by the repressed, unprocessed trauma that destroyed her emotional, physical, and intellectual health.
Shockingly, her healing journey began December 14, 2012, after Jess and her hometown of Newtown CT were devastated by the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In 2015, Jess joined Ian Hockley, founder of Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to his son, Dylan Hockley, one of the first-grade victims in the shooting, and worked to help develop the Wingman program - inspiring empathy, courage, and inclusion in children through experiential education - for dance studios, sports, and schools.
It was there in Newtown, teaching dance classes and working alongside brave parents who lost their children, Jess began to connect the value of shame-free, community-based early trauma intervention to the needs of sexual assault survivors.
Now, the founder of 3Joannes - a revolutionary app and sexual assault first responder training that prepares & strengthens community trust, support, and safety - Jess hopes no one else ever loses 30 years of their life imprisoned in the wreckage of unprocessed trauma like she did.
