E. Howard Hunt May 09, 2017

Show notes

Episode 42: On this episode of Surreal Talk we’ll be discussing a man who has been behind the scenes of some of modern history’s most controversial events, E. Howard Hunt. From his involvement in the formation of the CIA to helping to plan and carry out a coup d’etat of the democratically elected government of Guatemala, Hunt participated in some of the earliest examples of modern espionage and spycraft.

Using his experience and contacts in the government, Hunt was able work his way up very high into the ranks of the CIA. On his deathbed, he recounted his knowledge and limited involvement with the conspiracy to plan and assassinate President John F. Kennedy, implicating many top government officials including President Lyndon B. Johnson.

E. Howard Hunt was also directly responsible for the burglaries at the Watergate Offices and Hotel that led to eventual resignation of Richard Nixon. But there is SO much more strange stuff surrounding this man that will be discussed on this episode of Surreal Talk.

Marijuana: The Devil’s Lettuce Apr 10, 2017

Show notes

Episode 38: On the second part of our series on Marijuana, we will be focusing on the legality of The Devil’s Lettuce. We begin the show with a quick run down of what we covered (or at least what we think we covered…) last week. We then move on to the story of the history of the legality of Cannabis. The original hemp laws were not for the prohibition of Cannabis, but for the mandatory growing of Hemp on your plantation during times of shortage. From their we go on to illustrate the story of Harry J. Anslinger and the career he made out of the prohibition of Cannabis and his persecution of it’s users. Between Anslinger and the Yellow Journalism of William Randolph Hearst and his chain of newspapers spewing anti-marijuana sentiments on every edition, Marijuana never had a chance. We then begin to discuss the recent push for the repeal of the prohibition of Marijuana and what states have already taken steps to legalize it for medicinal and recreational use. This and more on this episode of Surreal Talk.

Marijuana Part 1: Weed, It’s from the Earth! Apr 03, 2017

Show notes

Episode 38: On the first part (of 3) of this week’s Surreal Talk show, we begin our discussion on Marijuana with some information on the plant itself. Where did the cannabis plant originate? What are the differences between Hemp and Marijuana? Just what part of the plant do you actually smoke? This and many more questions are attempted on this episode of Surreal Talk.

Disclaimer: We were, under the influence…, during the recording of this, the first part of this week’s show. It’s of our opinion that this show is a little difficult to follow for said reason. The next two parts will be release either late Tuesday or early Wednesday. They will be titled Marijuana: The Devil’s Lettuce and I’m in Love with Mary Jane. They will cover the conspiracy of and legal issues relating to the prohibition of Marijuana and the pop culture side of Marijuana respectively.
