148: How Lisandro Martinez fits in at United Jul 18, 2022

Show notes

The Strettycast is a leading podcast for Manchester United fans brought to you by StrettyNews.com.

Dale and Shaun are excited about the arrival of Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine has previously played as a defensive midfielder, but over the past two years became a vital part of Erik ten Hag's defence, playing alongside Jurrien Timber. Timber is seen as the next best thing to come out of the Amsterdam club, however, it is understood that he will be staying put for at least another year.

We joke about the media's fascination with Martinez's height and hope egg doesn't splash on our faces when the season begins.

Also on the agenda:

The Frenkie de Jong saga - every party has its own story
Looking forward to seeing James Garner get some minutes on tour
Ten Hag's recent comments on Cristiano Ronaldo
Should we worry about Alejandro Garnacho?

Manchester United gave Melbourne Victory a lesson at the AAMI Park stadium. It was to be expected.

Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet. To make matters worse for Melbourne Victory, who were playing their first game in pre-season, one of their players kicked the ball into his own net to make it 4-1 at the end.

Dale shares some immediate thoughts on the game and reacts to the signing of Christian Eriksen. There’s also some news on Lisandro Martinez, who we expect to be announced in the coming days.

For now, rest up and listen to episode 147. We’ll be back on Monday with the latest stories and a preview for the upcoming game against Aston Villa in Melbourne.

145: Perfect start to pre-season with 4-0 win over Liverpool Jul 12, 2022

Dale runs through some talking points from Erik ten Hag's first game in charge.

The Dutchman marked the occasion with a strong starting line-up, with Bruno Fernandes named as captain, while Harry Maguire sat out the game due to a minor injury.

We also come away from Bangkok after beating the Scousers 4-0! A fantastic day at the office, but we are not naive enough to suggest the rest of Ten Hag's journey will be plain sailing. We suspect there will be a few bumps along the way even if the early signs are encouraging.

Dale looks at Ten Hag's approach to the game and some of the noticeable tactics from the first 90 minutes. The centre-backs were adventurous, our full-backs pressed high up the pitch and we created plenty of chances in the first-half.
