You hear the term “Like father, like son” alot, but come on, what year is it…

“Like mother, like daughter” is often much more fitting. Especially for today’s show. Because there was one mom-daughter team that ruled television for a while. The mom, was one of the most famous comedians in the history of stand-up. The daughter, a chip off the old block. Not with comedy, per se, but with a smarmy honesty that related to the viewers.

If there’s anything you learn about when coming to California to “give it a try” in Hollywood, is that it’s rarely as glamorous or carefree as it may appear.

Chasing stardom can lead down many paths. And becoming the “personality” that you’re hired to be, can be a challenge.

And sometimes life tosses a wring into those plans and career. And it’s not always a small wrench.

Every once in a while a show comes along that not only entertains, but also opens viewer minds to a world that they knew nothing about, and maybe were a little afraid of.

Staring in the late 1990's and again recently, one of the funniest shows on TV went a long way in easing some preconceived notions about how some people in our world live their lives...

Medical dramas on television have been around pretty much since the advent of the picture tube. There was “Dr. Kildare” in the 60’s. “Marcus Welby, MD” in the 70’s, “St. Elsewhere” was in the 80’s… But starting in the 90’s there was one team of diligent doctors that stitched their way to critical acclaim and 23 emmy awards. It also propelled its actors to true stardom. There was even a future Batman hidden in the scrubs.

Strong, independent, women in TV comedies have always been a hallmark of the genre. Dishing out laughs, while solving problems with wisecracks, is comedy gold.

For 11 seasons, starting in 1993, there was one woman on NBC who perfectly sliced and diced the punchlines with her sharp tongued delivery.

When you think about the biggest comedy shows in television’s history, there are always a few things that stand out. There’s of course the writing. The ensemble cast. Sometimes, the music. And it’s that Norm, that I’m talking about…
