Show notes

This is Still Here Hollywood. I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me with today’s guest, from the iconic film “Back to the Future”, actress and director, Lea Thompson.

So much of Hollywood looks back toward the past instead of ahead to the future. How much did your last movie make? What were last night’s ratings…?

Today we are graced to have someone whose career took off by combining the past and future. She has starred in, and directed, a ridiculous number of films and television shows.

Of course, if you travel “Back To The Future”, you’ll see her in the role that made her a household name as a co-star of one of the biggest movie franchises of the 1980’s and beyond.

California is famous for many things. Movies. TV. Stars. And of course, our beaches and tiny red bathing suits…

There was one show that made it a requirement to run on the beaches. And not just run, but run in slow motion, with maybe a little bounce along the way.

In Hollywood, aliens coming to earth has been a “go to” theme for screenwriters for decades.

And of course, not all of the “creatures from the beyond” are as adorable and gentle as “ET”. Some are here to wreak havoc among the human race…

In 1995, one classic alien movie brought a horrible creature to earth, perfectly packaged as one of the most beautiful women to ever walk our planet.

Ed Begley Jr. "St. Elsewhere" Sep 09, 2024

Show notes

Career success in Hollywood is often measured in unusual ways... Some have Oscars and Emmys to show for their work. And some who have had career longevity, have their arms. Specifically when their credits are as long as their arm.

Another small hint of making it in Hollywood is if you casually used to hang out with Marlon Brando…

This is Still Here Hollywood. I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me with today’s guest, and man with credits that are several arms long, best known for his role on the groundbreaking St. Elsewhere, Ed Begley, Junior.

Breckin Meyer "Clueless" Encore Sep 02, 2024

Show notes

This is Still Here Hollywood. I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me with today’s guest from Clueless, Breckin Meyer.

Some “Teen Movies” only hit home with their target audience: teens. Most of those films come and go from theaters without a lot of fanfare. But once in a while a movie comes along with adorable characters and spectacular lines that live on forever, filed away under “Smarmy” in our vocabularies.

In 1995, one skateboarding / stoner character won over audiences with his slightly buzzed kindness. He immediately became a heartthrob who would go on to bring that charm and talent to dozens of productions both in front of, and behind the camera. Whatever…

Show notes

This is Still Here Hollywood, I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me with today’s guest, director, and Emmy winning actor, Chad Lowe.

Actors in Hollywood often wear different hats throughout their career. Most are content performing the lines and roles written for them. Others like to branch out and flex as many creative muscles as they can, all while lending support to who might be their famous siblings and spouses.

And sometimes people in Hollywood don’t necessarily get the “thanks” the observers think they might deserve.

Steve Kmetko Firing from E! Encore Aug 19, 2024

Show notes

As a longtime entertainment reporter, I'm accustimed to "asking" the questions...

The rule has been, if you're holding the microphone, your job is to find out about the person you're aiming the mic at.

Today is different... I was asked to leave hollyood 20 years ago. Let's just say it wasn't my choice. Then again, to say that my life has been a strugggle after leaving the red carpets and achnor chair, would be overstating things. A little.

I knew the job was dangerous when i took it. ;)

This is Still Here Hollywood, and today, I'll telll you the story that I've never told, fully.

In recovery you learn "you're only as sick as your secrets". So with that in mind, I'm leaving the questioning to "Friend of the podcast", actor Amy Yasbeck.

Jerry O'Connell. "Jerry Maguire" Encore Aug 12, 2024

Show notes

If you're one to pay attention to Hollywood tabloids you'd know that it's fairly rare to a child actor to keep their career thriving deep into adulthood.

One versitile star, who was in his first hit film at 11 years old, has thrived for decades as an actor and has pivoted into the world of Talk and Game Show hosting. But despite the many roles and successes he has raked up in his 40 year career, his most important role is being a dad to daughters.

This is Still Here Hollywood, I'm Steve Kmetko. Join me with today's guest, Jerry O'Connell.

Sharon Lawrence. "NYPD Blue" Aug 05, 2024

Show notes

This is Still Here Hollywood. I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me with today’s guest, and prosecutor Sylvia Costas from NYPD BLUE,, Sharon Lawrence.

Now I know that not many, if any, of you will remember the show DRAGNET, because it originally aired in the 1950’s, I mean I was barely around then. But DRAGNET was one of the first big TV “Cop Shows” that came on just a smidge after TV was invented.

Since then, police dramas have pretty much taken up residence on network television schedules…

In the 1980’s there was one show that broke the mold, showing the personal side of the people in law enforcement and the judicial system. That show was NYPD BLUE.

Debbe Dunning "Home Improvement" Encore Jul 29, 2024

Show notes

This is STILL HERE HOLLYWOOD. I’m Steve Kmetko. Join me, with today’s guest, and one of the stars of “Home Improvement”, Debbe Dunning.

In the 1990’s television was in its heyday… The bulk of shows were still on the four broadcast networks. No streaming yet. Some cable. It was great.

One show on ABC catapulted some of its early stars into worldwide superstardom. One went to “Infinity and beyond”. Another went to the beach.

But when a cast changes on a TV hit, the show obviously, must sill go on.

There was one actor who perfectly filled the shoes and tool belt of the previous star in order to help keep the show on the air for years.
