For episode 10 of Starve the Ego Feed the Soul we have the brilliant Dr. Caroline Leaf.

We discuss her new book at length during this conversation and how we can take charge of our minds to live fuller and freer lives. To quote the intro to Dr. Leaf's new book, "Toxic thoughts, depression, anxiety -- our mental mess is frequently aggravated by a chaotic world and sustained by and inability to manage our thought life. But we shouldn't settle into this mental mess as if it's a new normal. There's hope and help available to us -- and the road to healthier thoughts and peak happiness may actually be shorter than you think."

Conversations with Cassidy (Take 1) - Cassidy Freeman Apr 12, 2021
    Show notes

Just like her Instagram bio states, Cassidy Freeman is a woman, actor, lover of nature, meditator, yogi and dog lover.
You may recognize her from shows such as Longmire, Smallville, and now the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones.
Cassidy and I first connected via our two wonderful canine companions. Her late dog Shasta was a staple in her life, much like Sol and now Tsegi are in mine. Fast forward to the podcast launching, I thought Cassidy would be a great person to have on, not only because of her talent as an artist, but also her perspective and outlook on life.
You can find Cassidy on Instagram @hatface, her authenticity is palpable even through social media and that is something I love and greatly appreciate.
I'm planning on having Cassidy back on the show periodically and adding to these 'Conversations with Cassidy' over time. Our chats tend to go on a wide variety of tangents and topics, but stick with us, I promise we get to some crucial points.
I really appreciate all the support all of you out there have shown for the podcast so far!
    Much love,

Diving Deep into Self - Kelsey Grant Apr 05, 2021
    Show notes

Kelsey Grant is a love education and relationship coach, country musician, and podcast host based in Vancouver, Canada.
Every conversation I have with Kelsey is filled with depth and introspection. In this conversation we talk about observing our childhoods and how these observations have been essential to understanding our healthy and unhealthy patterns and responses in relationships.
We talk about the honeymoon phase vs the real work of thriving healthy relationships, how no one escapes childhood devoid of trauma, and how we can work on allowing space in ourselves to heal.
I hope you enjoy this conversation!

Hózhó, Walking In Beauty - Shaun Martin Mar 22, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode I sit down with the phenomenal Shaun Martin. Shaun was born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona. He is the founder and race director of the Canyon de Chelly Ultra Marathon, an educator, a husband, a father, a son, and a facilitator of connection. In this talk Shaun shares many amazing things. Stories of his father growing up on the land near the East Rim of the Grand Canyon and being taken from his family at a young age by the United States government.
Shaun provides insight on how to learn and connect with indigenous cultures here and around the world. How we all might be better off for respecting the first inhabitants of the land.
He touches on the reasons behind the Canyon de Chelly Ultra and tells stories about Navajo (Diné) culture.
A Navajo word Shaun mentions throughout this discussion is Hózhó (HoSho). Hózhó is loosely translated as peace, balance, beauty and harmony. To be “in Hózhó” is to be at one with and a part of the world around you. Hozho is a state of being that refers to the interconnectedness between beauty, harmony and goodness in all things physical and spiritual that results in health and well-being for all things and beings.

Our Relationship with Nature - Pascal Egli Mar 11, 2021
    Show notes

Pascal Egli has been one of the fastest mountain and sky runners in the world for the past 5 years. He is not only an elite mountain athlete, but a thoughtful human being who consistently puts out inspiration to connect with nature in the world.
His background as a professional scientist allows him a unique insight into our connection with nature.
In this episode Pascal and I discuss our relationship with nature. How this has evolved or devolved over time and why the view point that we are separate from nature is responsible for many of the issues involving climate change.
Pascal discusses his deep connection with nature, how his childhood played a role in his appreciation for our planet, and how mountain running has allowed him to experience more parts of the world and beauty.
We discuss so much from over consumption, to environmental elitism, to privilege in the outdoor industry.
