    Women in Technology Jul 30, 2019

    Technology has the highest dropout level for women compared to any other industry. Matt and Matt are accompanied by the lead angular developer at Bitovi, founder, and president of Kansas City Women in Technology, Jennifer Wadella.

    Kansas City Women in Technology is a grassroots organization with the aim of increasing the number of women in the technology industry in Kansas City. It was founded in 2013 and provides 3 primary ways to support women who are curious about careers in technology.

    The first method is through encouragement for young girls, which tries to open up the conversation of women having careers in technology. The second method is to provide mentors for these young women that they might have someone to help them along. Lastly, they host networking opportunities for current professionals with activities such as Coding & Cocktails or Coding & Cupcakes. Kansas City Women in Technology wants to break through current gender trends and blaze a trail for women to succeed in the technology industry.

    Innovation Districts Jul 24, 2019

    Entrepreneurs are constantly innovating and creating in order to make their product stand on top of the rest. Sometimes these pushes for innovation can lead to developing neighborhoods into creative powerhouses such as Silicon Valley.

    In this episode of the Startup Hustle, Matt and Matt are joined by the CEO of Keystone Community Corporation, Kevin McGinnis. Keystone Community Corporation is pursuing an Innovation District in Kansas City, which could mean more innovation and educational and occupational opportunities for those in low-income neighborhoods. By supporting low-income neighborhoods, the quality of life in these neighborhoods can also be supported.

    McGinnis also spearheaded the Sprint Accelerator, which aims to drive business development through direct involvement with the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Both of these programs focus on developing business through direct involvement with entrepreneurs.

    Miller addresses the problems of IoT, or the Internet of Things, for startups and what kind of companies should use IoT. An Internet of Things is a network of interrelated devices that are able to communicate with each other without the need for human interaction. Miller's company, Homebase.ai, aims to create a wholly integrated living environment by providing a smarter living experience for students and a more profitable management system for property managers.

    IoTs have the potential of increasing a company's return on investment by automating, typically, human-driven functions and providing more information and feedback.

    How do you raise capital for your startup? Who should you ask for money? Where can you find people willing to invest? In this episode of the Startup Hustle, Matt and Matt sit down with the CEO and co-founder of Venture360 and LIQUIFI, Rachael Qualls.

    Qualls is an accomplished entrepreneur and investor, who has an eye for innovation. Her company, Venture360, provides multiple forms of management services such as portfolio and fund management. LIQUIFI is Venture360's newest product. It allows clients to build private markets for trading private stock with individualized parameters.

    She often describes LIQUIFI's service as building one's own private stock exchange! She says that one of the best ways to raise capital is to treat it like sales. The process of raising capital mirrors sales in that you are selling your idea and company to potential investors.
