    Show notes

The Star Wars collecting community has changed in these past four months. An entirely new marketplace now caters to both the established and newer collectors unlike any before it, all thanks to a sleepy little Facebook group page that went unnoticed until the quarantine commenced. This is the story of that group, and how it found its place in Star Wars collecting history. Join host David Quinn as he explores the phenomenon that redefined the virtual marketplace, and recounts some of the notable vintage and modern Star Wars collectibles sold each month since quarantine began. For anyone interested in joining, search "DEAL/NO DEAL or BUY IT NOW!" on Facebook Groups. 25. A Look At Loose Vintage Star Wars Figure Prices And Trends During The Quarantine! Jul 20, 2020
    Show notes

Part Two of the "Collecting During Quarantine" Series: Apparently Hoth is hot, and the Ewoks aren't as lovable as they once were. In the second episode of the "Collecting During Quarantine" series, join host David Quinn for a vintage-centric conversation with longtime loose Kenner Star Wars figure collector Ryan, who goes by the name Humblehorder on eBay. The two friends meet at the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tattooine for a deep dive into the market for the Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi lines of the 1970s and 1980s, as well as for the Power of the Force collection and the DROIDS and EWOKS cartoon releases. Find out which figures have skyrocketed in price during quarantine, and which ones have cooled in recent months. Ryan offers valuable insight into the overall market and the trends he's witnessed as someone who has sold thousands of Kenner Star Wars toys. And if you're looking for certain figures or accessories to add to your collection, reach out to Ryan (Humblehorder on eBay) and let him know. His prices are very fair, his accessories are always authentic, and he'd be happy to help you with your Star Wars Collection! If you have enjoyed the Star Wars: Prototypes and Production podcast, please leave a positive review, and please share the podcast with your friends and fellow collectors. It would really help to get the word out to our passionate and dedicated community, and it would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance from SW: Prototypes and Production! *note - This conversation was recorded before Hasbro's announcement of the upcoming Carbon Freezing Chamber playset. Once the playset is available to the public, collectors may seek out vintage Bespin figures to add to it in a similar fashion to the way collectors filled out their Sail Barges with ROTJ figures last year. This demand for Bespin figures will likely lead to an increase in prices for "army builders" like Stormtroopers, Bespin Guards, and Ugnaughts, as well as for any of the main characters (Han Bespin, Lando, Chewbacca, Leia Bespin, Vader, Lobot and Boba Fett) who appeared in the scene. -dq To Listen to the Episode on the Prototype Archives Site: https://www.prototypearchives.com/podcast Links to the Episode on Various Podcast Platforms: APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/star-wars-prototypes-and-production/id1448205460 YOUTUBE MUSIC/PODCASTS: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7UruGWpd8qKrObL8-DSLekomB8GuB1VT SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/744L0XQhmpXn2AZeaxUhOZ CASTBOX: https://castbox.fm/channel/Star-Wars%3A-Prototypes-and-Production-id1904296?utm_source=website&utm_medium=dlink&utm_campaign=web_share&utm_content=Star%20Wars%3A%20Prototypes%20and%20Production-CastBox_FM STITCHER: https://www.stitcher.com/show/1054209 PANDORA: https://www.pandora.com/podcast/star-wars-prototypes-and-production/PC:1001054209 PODBEAN: https://www.podbean.com/podcast-detail/u4ywr-80960/ AMAZON MUSIC: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/c98fb265-c233-43d9-ae3b-1102bfb03e45/star-wars-prototypes-and-production PLAYERFM: https://player.fm/series/2473540 SOUNDCLOUD: https://soundcloud.com/david-quinn-908355451/tracks PODVINE: https://podvine.com/podcast/star-wars-prototypes-and-production iHEART: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-star-wars-prototypes-and-p-31050806/ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/star-wars-prototypes-and-production/id1448205460

    24. How The Quarantine Reignited The Star Wars Collectibles Market! Jul 04, 2020

Part One of the "Collecting During Quarantine" Series: "There goes the Star Wars collectible market..." When COVID-19 first hit the United States in March, many collectors assumed interest the hobby would diminish severely. Instead, prices have skyrocketed and items have sold for record prices. As quickly as they appear on eBay, they are snatched up, sometimes lasting only a few minutes. Collectors are still collecting, and Star Wars is thriving. Join David Quinn as he explores this surprising phenomenon, and offers seven factors responsible for the surge in the Star Wars collecting market over the past three months, as well as three areas of the hobby that are seeing some of the biggest gains. 23. Collecting Prototypes: How A Star Wars Character Becomes An Action Figure! Jun 15, 2020
    Show notes

Have you ever wondered how Kenner and Hasbro turned the Star Wars characters you know and love into the plastic figures you collect? How does an idea become a toy? And if you collect prototypes of these Star Wars vintage and modern figures, what are these pieces you own, and where do they fit in to the production process? What is the difference between a first shot prototype and a hardcopy, and why are some pieces rarer or more valuable? Join host David Quinn for the second episode in the Collecting Prototypes series as he gives a basic overview of how a Star Wars figure is created and produced. Collecting Prototypes is a new series that will explore more than 40 years of modern and vintage Star Wars preproduction pieces from companies like Kenner and Hasbro. It will feature interviews with some of the most knowledgeable and passionate prototype collectors, and will examine the production process of a Star Wars toy as it goes from concept to retail. Show notes

While finishing the final chapter in the Star Wars prequel trilogy in 2004, George Lucas established Lucasfilm Animation with one purpose: to create an animated series using the latest technology. It would tell the story of the Clone Wars, first mentioned by Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, and would fill in the time gap between Episodes 2 and 3. Join host David Quinn as he explores the series' very beginnings: how Lucas hired key leaders Catherine Winder and Gail Curry, and how he trained Dave Filoni in the ways of Star Wars storytelling. Learn how the creative team found the style that would define the show and how they overcame the challenges that awaited them. The Clone Wars series is one of the most immersive, longest-running stories in Star War's history. With a full-length feature film, more than 120 television episodes totaling over 60 hours, a vast toy line, and a devoted and rapidly growing fan base, The Clone Wars signaled a new era of storytelling for a new generation. If you enjoy the Star Wars: Prototypes and Production podcast, please subscribe on Apple's podcast App and kindly leave a review. 18. A Star Wars Interview with "Return of the Jedi's" Yak Face and J'Quille! Dec 30, 2019
    Show notes

What was it like to be on the set and in the world of Return of the Jedi? Sean Crawford and Tim Dry began their careers as mimes and musicians, playing with some of the most iconic bands during the UK's New Romantics club scene. Their day job consisted of filming scenes in Jabba's Palace and in space with Admiral Ackbar in one of the most famous movies of all time. Sean portrayed the infamous Yak Face, most notable for being the final figure produced by Kenner for the original vintage Star Wars trilogy toy line. Tim was the monstrous J'Quille, known during production as "Tooth Face." And they both played Mon Calamari officers later in the film. But their story is an incredible one, anchored by a friendship that has spanned the length of the Star Wars franchise itself. And now they are stewards of the Star Wars legacy, as they regularly appear at conventions to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans, and to share the stories of their time in a galaxy, far, far away. Join host David Quinn for a conversation with Sean and Tim at Michael Havens' ICCC sci-fi convention in Nashville, Tennessee in September. Sean and Tim offer a funny, candid and heartfelt reflection on their lives together as friends, actors and musicians, and what the Star Wars franchise means to each of them. Modern prototype guru Anthony Pagano surprises Sean with a look at the earliest modern Yak Face preproduction piece, and Sean shares his love for collecting all things Yak Face. Thanks to Anthony "Obi-Wan" Pagano and Jason "TK-Sparrow" Cain for taking part in the interview. And thank you to Michael Havens, for giving Star Wars fans a place to connect with those who lived the movies. And a sincere and joyful thank you to Sean Crawford and Tim Dry for spending almost an hour with us, and for blessing us with a wonderful memory from a weekend in Nashville. Sean and Tim, Tik and Tok, Yak Face and Tooth Face--we are honored to call you friends. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan were tasked with writing the first movie of the trilogy, and for forging the path for the future of the franchise. 2015's "The Force Awakens" was a monumental movie in Star Wars history. It brought back the characters from the original trilogy, and introduced new ones that would be heroes and heroines to a new generation. But continuing the Skywalker Saga was no easy feat. And in addition to walking the finest of lines between nostalgia and a fresh take on a galaxy far, far away, one wrong move could have crippled what Disney CEO Bob Iger called "J.J.'s $4-billion dollar movie." Join host David Quinn for an in-depth look at ten ways "The Force Awakens" achieved the impossible, and paved the way for new Star Wars stories.
