From managing family calendars to processing venison with the kids, this episode blends humor, heart, and a healthy dose of perspective. Whether you’re a serious trophy hunter or just love filling the freezer, this conversation reminds us what really matters when the woods go quiet.

Antler Up - Trust Your Gut: Staying Mentally Strong Through the Rut Nov 05, 2025
    Show notes

This week on episode 298 of the Antler Up Podcast, Jeremy dives into a solo episode packed with reflection, mindset, and practical lessons for this critical stretch of the deer season. After a few tough sits with slow deer movement and missed opportunities, Jeremy shares what he’s learning in real time — the importance of patience, resisting the urge to be “too mobile,” and trusting your gut when things don’t seem to break your way. He explores the concept of a growth mindset during the rut, focusing on how to stay positive and adaptable when hunts get tough, and how to let each sit teach you something that moves you forward.

To round out the episode, Jeremy brings back powerful clips from one of his favorite past conversations — Episode 196 with Beau Martonik — where Beau laid down timeless insights on rut hunting. From playing terrain correctly and trusting your area, to relying on experience instead of overanalyzing trail camera data, these snippets are packed with lessons that hit especially hard this time of year. Whether you’re in the thick of your rut grind or waiting for your next opportunity, this episode will reset your perspective and keep you grounded as the best hunting days of the season unfold.

Hound Dog Network - Gone To The Dogs: Remembering John Wick Nov 04, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode Mark Zepp joins Steve in remembering hunter, breeder, trainer, author, innovator and entrepreneur John Wick of Montgomery City, Missouri.

“He was Elvis,” Zepp opines in this up-close look at perhaps the most influential man to ever snap a leash on a hound. Through his endless ads and columns in coon hunting magazines, Wick single handedly tackled the task of educating the coonhound masses on the nuances of the sport that one major dog food company called the largest sporting dog activity in America.

Zepp worked, traveled and hunted alongside John Wick for ten years at Wick Outdoor Works which at the time was the leading supply company for coon hunters nationwide. Nobody in the coon hunting game knew Wick better nor was more closely associated with the most recognizable name in the coonhound sport than Zepp.

This episode explores the many aspects of this amazing man’s life from the viewpoint of one that knew him best. Listeners will appreciate this inside look at a very special man indeed.
