    Show notes

This week on the Missouri Woods and Water podcast the guys get to talk with Zach Mixer about an awesome 2021 giant whitetail. We were lucky enough to meet Zach up at the Iowa Deer Classic and hear part of the awesome story about an unlikely Iowa giant. Zach gained access to a new piece of property last season which is always a nice surprise, but little did he know a 210" beast was living there. A season of crazy ups and downs ended with the highest high a guy can ask for when he was able to put an arrow in a world class deer. It was great to meet Zach and his family in Iowa and even better hearing this full story. We want to thank Zach for hopping on with us and for his service to his community as well. Thanks for listening.

Nomadic Outdoorsman - A True Pennsylvania Woodsman May 02, 2022
    Show notes

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with fellow Sportsmen’s Empire podcaster and host of Pennsylvania Woodsman Podcast Mitchell Shirk about his love for podcasting, hunting and habitat.

Mitchell has been tagging along on hunting trips since he was 4 years old. Around 10 he was able to start hunting himself. He would hunt and fish for anything with an open season but as time went on he started to focus on archery hunting whitetail deer and PA big game. Mitchell grew up hunting a 280 acre private land tract where he learned about quality deer management and property manipulation. He also got into hunting large tracts of mountainous public land in northern PA. His goal is to learn as much as possible each year, and help share his experiences with as many people as possible.

Mitchell went to school for Biology and got a B.S. in Ecology w/ Minor in Environmental Science. He is currently an Agronomist at a private agricultural consulting company called Rosetree Consulting in Southeast Pennsylvania. He not only helps growers maximize yield potential and profitability, but also translates farming practices into food plot practices.

Oklahoma Outdoors - Private Water Fishing May 02, 2022
    Show notes

Big things are happening at the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast this week. John has not one, but two exciting announcements on this episode so you are definitely not going to want to skip this one. One of those announcements has to do with this weeks guest Steve Alexander. Steve is the owner of Private Water Fishing, a north Texas based company looking to grow its presence across the Red River into Oklahoma. Private Water Fishing is a membership based company with access to over 100 private fishing lakes across Texas and Oklahoma.

If you are looking for a top notch secluded fishing destination, Private Water Fishing has you covered. This company doesn't just accept any ol pond out there, and the majority of these private lakes are over 10 acres in size. Each is managed for both fish quality and to provide a great fishing experience. After a lake is booked, it has to wait through a mandatory rest period before it can be reserved again in order to keep the fish from being over pressured. Like what you're hearing? Listen to this episode and don't forget to stick around till the end for a second exciting announcement!

Pennsylvania Woodsman - Early Season Acorns Leads to Biggest Archery Buck Apr 29, 2022
    Show notes

During the early season, food is the name of the game. Whether it is created by man in the form of ag fields and food plots, or in the form of natural browse, bedding to feeding patterns are your ticket to success finding a shooter buck. On this week’s episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, we chat with Mark Dissinger as he shares his 2021 success story about his largest PA buck to date that was killed in early archery season. Typically, most hunters talk about hunting close to food sources in the evening during this time of year. However, Mark has consistently found early season success in his area during the mornings as bucks head back from ag fields and stop to munch on acorns before heading back to bed.

As we all know, one of the challenges of bow hunting in early season is facing the heat. All bowhunters strive to prepare themselves for the moment of truth to make a quick and humane kill. However, if you bow hunt long enough you are bound to experience the lowest of lows. Unfortunately for Mark, the recovery of his deer did not go as smoothly as he hoped. But Mark persevered to find his trophy for a bittersweet ending. In addition to the early season hunting strategy, there are plenty of things to take away from this recovery story and help us learn when the unspeakable happens.
