    Oklahoma Outdoors - Southern Plains Outdoor Show Sep 02, 2024

    This week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John comes to you live from the Southern Plains Outdoor Show. John loaded up the truck with his recording equipment and setup at the show to record interviews with vendors and attendees. To start off the show, John talks to Oklahoma Game Warden Dillon King to cover the new hunting license structure and changes. Warden King also talks about some of the more common mistakes people make while out in the field.

    Next on the list are a couple young men who started "Hunting God Outdoors." Hunter, Gunner, and Roman's goal is to bring people closer to God while also enjoying the outdoor pursuits that we all know and love. After the Hunting God Outdoor boys, friend of the show Charles Greer with Whitetail Fanatic Land Consultants stops by the table for a quick summer time update. He and John talk a little food plot strategy and what this fall may bring to each.

    To wrap up the show, Daniel McVay and Chancey Holdsworth of Buckventures drop by to talk a little behind the scenes of what it is like to be a part of a major television show. They talk about how much time and work goes into producing a 22 minute episode, and what it takes to put on such a large production. The guys also give some advice for young people who want to get into the industry, and some good ways to get started.

    In this episode Micheal and I discuss our preparations for the upcoming season. We talk about gear, hunting strategies, early season tactics, and identifying travel corridors for the pre-rut phase. We talk a bit about access on public ground specifically, and how utilizing unique accesses can increase your odds of success. Michael discusses hunting strategies in Pennsylvania and Maryland during the early season and the transition into the pre-rut. He emphasizes the importance of understanding deer movement and finding travel corridors between bedding areas. Michael shares his experience of hunting in mountainous terrain and using topography to his advantage. Kevin Creeley shares his own experiences hunting in flatlands and the significance of small topographic features like drains and saddles. They discuss the importance of scouting and finding fresh sign, such as scrapes and how they dictate deer movement. We discuss finding and hunting travel corridors, including unique examples such as pond dams, pine meets hardwood transitions, and timber strips between multiple thick bedding areas. We emphasize the significance of understanding buck's movement patterns during the rut and how travel corridors play a role in their behavior.     Nomadic Outdoorsman - Insight For Alaska Aug 29, 2024

    In this conversation, the guys talk all about Alaska and what can be expected on the upcoming hunt. Daniel shares all about his experiences growing up and chasing a variety of big game animals from the hills to the marshes. Daniel also shares insight on different strategies for hunting moose caribou and a number of other animals depending on the rut and timing within the season. Dan inquires about calling strategies, location and asks if his expectations are too high for their first hunt based on Daniel’s experience. Daniel tells stories of when he went in too deep on a hunt and spent 2 days packing a moose out from the backcountry. They both share about difficult packouts and how even though they are brutal they find themselves always wanting more difficult situations and adventures. Daniel looks forward to his upcoming moose hunt with his 2 girls as Dan dreams about his first experience hunting in Alaska’s interior.
