Pennsylvania Woodsman - Beginner to Proficient Flintlock Shooting Dec 25, 2024
    Show notes

On this week's episode Mitch is gearing up for Pennsylvania's late season deer hunting with his flintlock muzzleloader. This unique weapon has a 3+week long season for deer each year that creates a fun opportunity to fill a tag. Over the past few years, Mitch has become slightly more serious in his shooting and preparation to fill a tag with the ol' smoke pole. This was not always the case, in fact, plenty of animals have been scared by his inaccurate shooting in the past. This forced a change to buckle down and learn how to become more accurate with quality practice.

Mitch shares his experiences shooting after purchasing a book about black powder rifle accuracy. He shares the process he installed into his routine for load development and practice to help alleviate flinching, and build a handload with the right powder charge and patch thickness. There are a few other tricks he has picked up that have helped his success along the way. If you're an experienced flintlock shooter, this may not be your episode. However, if you're the fella that didn't fill a deer tag and is deciding to dust off the flintlock after a few years of not being engaged, this may help you get ready!

We Do This Too - Heartstrings & Holidays: Navigating Grief with Grace Dec 23, 2024
    Show notes

The holiday season, often filled with joy and togetherness, can also be a poignant reminder of loss for those missing loved ones due to death or illness. The empty seat at the table, the traditions once shared, and the memories of laughter and love can amplify the ache of their absence. Grief during the holidays feels heavier as the world around us celebrates, making it hard to reconcile joy with the void in our hearts. These moments can leave us longing for their presence and struggling to navigate the festivities without them. It’s a tender time, one that often brings tears as much as it does smiles from cherished memories.

In these moments of sorrow, it's comforting to remember that God is present with us, even in our pain. His plan, though sometimes beyond our understanding, is filled with love and purpose. He promises to walk with us through the valleys, offering peace that surpasses understanding and hope for a future where there will be no more tears. Trusting in His bigger plan doesn’t erase the sadness but provides a foundation of faith to lean on. In our brokenness, God is near, offering His unchanging love and the assurance that we are never alone. Through prayer, reflection, and trust, we can find comfort in His presence, knowing He holds both our hearts and our loved ones in His hands.

Michigan Wild - Punching Tags Dec 23, 2024
    Show notes

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate puts a wrap on 2024 with Punching Tags! Nate found some recent late season success with his bow and broke down his late season strategy. Being successful in the late season involves strategic planning and observation. Searching for the correct properties, utilizing food plots, and having effective access has increased the quality of Nate's hunts the last few years. This approach has morphed into finding those areas that produce opportunities throughout the fall, not just a specific time frame.

Going into 2024 Nate felt like he had to do a better job at harvesting some does. Typically every fall Nate gets at least 1 or 2 does, but felt like the deer population had increased dramatically and saw the negative impact first hand. So this fall he decided to put a higher emphasis on targeting them. It was a process and had its shares of ups and downs, but Nate found himself punching 2 tags December 20th.Capitalizing on a great weather pattern and a micro food plot led to an awesome hunt.
