The Dallas Morning News SportsDay writers discuss Ezekiel Elliott's contact and the 2019 Cowboys Camp. Cowboys training camp is underway in Oxnard. Ezekiel Elliott is still not present. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones briefly addressed the situation on Sunday night. "You don't have to have a rushing champion to win a Super Bowl," Jones said in a one-on-one interview with CBS 11 Sports.
Jones has previous experience in this department. In the 1992 season, Emmitt Smith became the first-ever rushing champion to be a member of a championship team as the Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.

With a little more than 72 hours to go before the deadline, Minor, on Sunday, acknowledged being a little miffed that his pitching schedule had been moved back just in case a trade came up. He also confessed this -- and stop the presses! -- he didn't particularly enjoy discussing trade rumors with the media. Or anybody else, for that matter.

History tells us that even if Zeke holds out, it's not necessarily the end of the world, though you could probably see it from there. Depends, of course, on how long Zeke sits and how well the Cowboys play without him. For instance, Emmitt Smith held out two games in 1993 and the Cowboys, with rookie Derrick Lassic in Emmitt's place, lost both. After the second loss, Charles Haley, never one to take disappointment lightly, slammed a locker room wall and screamed, "We can't win with this rookie running back!"

Factor in his season-long performance with an affordable salary (about $3 million for the remainder of this season and $9.8 million for 2020) makes him perhaps the most attractive starting pitching option on the market - if he's on the market. If the Rangers feel they still need to take big steps to close the gaps on contenders for 2020 and beyond, trading Minor would represent the best route to restocking the upper levels of the farm system.
