    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss the Cowboys' flop in Kansas City [1:53] and how they won't get another chance to measure their postseason potential until January. Evan and Kevin make their cases for the best free agent shortstops for the Rangers [17:35]. Kevin argues that TCU is a better job than SMU or Texas Tech and how that came to pass [28:32], which explains why Sonny Dykes is leaving the Hilltop for Fort Worth. The Mavs are feeling Luka Doncic's absence, but it's not a total loss. David discusses how Kristaps Porzingis has played some of his best basketball since he was in New York [37:06]. The key, Kevin says, is whether he can continue to play that way once Luka is back in the lineup. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Cowboys reaching for top seed, Sark's sorry streak and Porzingis' rise as Luka stumbles Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss the Cowboys' rebound from their worst performance of the year to their best and what it means going into their toughest stretch of the season, with three games in 12 days against Kansas City, Las Vegas and New Orleans [1:56]. David says he wants to see how the Cowboys react to situations going forward. Kevin talks about college job openings, including the possibility that Sonny Dykes could move from SMU to TCU, and all three Insiders pile on Steve Sarkisian and Texas [19:01]. The Mavs' big win over Denver may have come at the cost of Luka Doncic, but David wonders if that might facilitate more assertiveness from Kristaps Porzingis [30:40]. And Evan outlines the free agent market for the Rangers [36:32].

Aberration or blueprint for Cowboys, Kershaw for the Rangers and is Luka happy? Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant are joined by Callie Caplan, who covers the Mavs for the News, to discuss a "catastrophic" Cowboys loss, as Kevin calls it. But catastrophic only if it lingers [1:56]. Evan makes the case that, given what happened in the rest of the NFC over the weekend, it wasn't all that bad. Callie gets us up-to-speed on how Luka Doncic is adjusting to Jason Kidd's demands and the chemistry of the Mavs in the Kidd era [17:28]. David describes how Luka is different from most young superstars. Evan explains why the Rangers can't go after most big-time free agents until after labor issues are settled, but they can and should sign Clayton Kershaw [29:33]. And Kevin says Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech's AD, is sticking his neck out by hiring Joey McGuire to be his football coach [36:53].

Is Luka lost? Should the Cowboys hold off another week on bringing Dak back? And it's time to play Coaching Carousel! Nov 02, 2021
    Show notes

With Kevin Sherrington missing in action, SportsDay Insider’s Evan Grant and David Moore welcome in Mavs Insider Callie Caplan to discuss Luka Doncic's slow start to the season, the travails of yet another Kristaps Porzingis injury and adjusting to the Jason Kidd style of play.
Then, Evan and David debate whether the Cowboys should play Dak Prescott this week or if they should play with house money, give Dak another week to rest and let Cooper Rush run the offense against Denver since the season is quickly becoming about playoff seeding rather than worrying about winning the NFC East. Evan is worried about the Cowboys' penalty problems; David explains controlled aggression.
Then they toss around whether TCU dropped the football on the decision to part ways with Gary Patterson or if getting out ahead of Texas Tech in the coaching search is just a necessary evil of the business these days. All of which brings us back to: SMU's Sonny Dykes.
And, finally, Evan says: Stop being grumpy old men about the World Series. It is what it is and it's still full of drama and tension. Appreciate the Braves' resilience all year and the Astros' ability to win in the face of being the designated national villains. Kevin says there's no need to rush him back just to try to beat Minnesota, and David breaks down the rest of the Cowboys' schedule, pointing out that the new over/under on wins. The guys analyze the Mavs' horrific start in a loss to the Hawks [16:30]. David says Jason Kidd needs to find a balance between stressing defense and rebounding and making sure the offense still works. On the day of the first game of the World Series [26:34], Kevin pins his stunted growth on growing up an Astros fan and ranks the favorites to succeed Matt Wells at Tech and why it's so important for Kirby Hocutt to get it right.

    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss the wisdom in letting Dak Prescott rest his injured calf for a couple weeks instead of rushing him back. Kevin gives two reasons why Jason Kidd is now the Mavs' coach, and how that affects the team's dynamics going forward. On the college coaching roundtable, the guys talk about the development at Washington State, where the head coach and four assistants were fired for refusing the COVID vaccine; Evan tells us why LSU is a better job than Texas A&M; and David skewers Evan for saying Steve Sarkisian is already done at Texas.

Evan describes how he made Joey Gallo cry in a New York reunion [21:06], and Kevin breaks down the Texas A&M-Arkansas game at JerryWorld [29:07]. Getting a jump on next week, Evan asks Kevin when was the last time another game in this state (Alabama-A&M) trumped Texas-OU? Nothing, Kevin says, trumps a corn dog at the State Fair.
