Predicting the Mavs will clinch and whom the Cowboys will draft, but still no answers for the Rangers Apr 27, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore discuss a big week in DFW sports. [ 2:07] Kevin and David predict the Mavs will clinch their first playoff win since the title team in 2011, probably Thursday in Salt Lake City. Especially if Utah's Donovan Mitchell's left leg is an issue. [17:52] David offers potential first-round options for the Cowboys at several positions, and all three panelists make their choices. [33:30] Evan notes the recent surge in Ranger fortunes but tells Kevin that pitching help probably isn't on the way. They'll have to dance with what brung 'em.

Winning without Luka, losing with the Rangers' bullpen and mocking the Cowboys Apr 19, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant break down the Mavs' Game 2 win over the Jazz, squaring the series at 1-1 [2:30]. Kevin asks Evan if the Mavs can continue to shoot 3s and get career games from Jalen Brunson, who had 41 points and no turnovers. Evan describes how the Rangers' bullpen has gone wrong [12:39]. Kevin calls it a surprise, noting that whatever else you think of Jon Daniels, he's always built decent bullpens. And the Insiders discuss what's more important for the Cowboys [22:45] in next week's draft: a walk-in starter on the offensive line or a replacement for Randy Gregory?

Luka's leg, Rangers' arms and the hole in the Cowboys Apr 12, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss [2:40] the impact of Luka Doncic's calf strain on the Mavs' playoff hopes starting Saturday against Utah. Despite the uncertainty about Luka, Kevin says the best thing the Mavs have going for them is their finest defense in decades. David says the measuring stick for this season will be how the Mavs fare should they advance to face Phoenix, the best team in the league. [15:38] Evan says it's too early to worry about the Rangers' bullpen, while Kevin says dithering without adding arms could burn up the hopes of players and fans alike. [31:18] And David talks about the unusual depth of this NFL draft and what it could mean for the Cowboys in rebuilding their offensive and defensive lines.

Rangers rotation questions, Final Four fodder and what in the world is Jerry Jones talking about? Mar 29, 2022
    Show notes

[3:47] SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant talk about spring training and what it means for the Rangers' rotation. Kevin wonders if Jon Gray, the projected opening day starter, can have the kind of career turnaround enjoyed by Lance Lynn, Mike Minor and, to an extent, Kyle Gibson. Evan lays out how he thinks the rotation will shape up, based on spreading out the innings-eaters so they don't burn up the bullpen by July. [21:50] Jerry Jones' comments about personal and professional scandals at the NFL meetings prompt Evan to ask why he "obfuscates and bloviates" so much. Some of it is natural, Kevin says, and some of it is planned. Our panelists reveal their championship picks for the men's Final Four and Evan gives us the breakdown on new SMU men's basketball coach Rob Lanier, who comes to the Hilltop from Evan's alma mater.

LISTEN: Cowboys' comings and goings, Rangers' lineup projections and just how bad is your bracket busted? Mar 22, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant discuss the ins and outs of the off-seasons for two of the local clubs. [00:35] The Cowboys missed on Kevin's target, Von Miller, who got a budget-busting contract from Buffalo. David says Dante Fowler doesn't make up for the loss of Randy Gregory. David goes out on a limb to predict that the Cowboys will use the 24th pick to select an offensive lineman as they rebuild the wall in front of Dak Prescott, fresh off "clean-up" surgery for his left shoulder. [17:00] Evan describes the frantic pace of condensed spring training and what it means for Andy Ibanez at third base; in the corner outfield spots; and the rotation, in particular. [34:00] Evan also predicts Texas Tech makes the Final Four as the panel marvels at the defensive evolution of hoops here in Texas.

Cowboys keep a "check-down" tight end, Mavs keep winning and MLB keeps screwing up Mar 08, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and David Moore analyze [1:45] the Cowboys' decision to tag Dalton Schultz while working out a long-term deal to keep the tight end. David notes that critics have a point when saying Schultz isn't a big-play threat, but Kevin says the Cowboys' hand was forced by the injury to Blake Jarwin. David guesses the Cowboys probably won't cut DeMarcus Lawrence, and Randy Gregory may be lost if he finds a better deal. The question is, can he? [28:40] Baseball can't get out of its own way, Kevin says, and our insiders discuss how former Baylor star Brittney Griner finds herself in the middle of an international crisis in Russia.

Mavs surging, Cowboys coming and going and our favorite/least favorite interviews Mar 01, 2022
    Show notes

[2:20] Callie Caplan leads her SportsDay Insiders -- Kevin Sherrington, David Moore and Evan Grant -- in a discussion of the Mavs' biggest win of the season. Kevin eats a little crow over the contributions of Spencer Dinwiddie, acquired in the Kristaps Porzingis trade, and makes Jason Kidd a Coach of the Year candidate. [12:25] The panel reveals its favorite and least-favorite coaches to interview. Hint: Buck Showalter may not want to listen. [25:21] David outlines the Cowboys' week at the combine and we poll the panel on the free agents we expect to return or be let go. Hint: Amari Cooper may not want to listen.

Luka's love for MJ, Cowboys Cheerleaders, the Olympics and other philosophical issues Feb 22, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant [2:41] discuss the highlight of the NBA All-Star weekend for Luka Doncic, which was a hug from Michael Jordan. Also, Kevin cites Callie Caplan's story in which Luka revealed a new diet and regimen that helped him get in shape mid-season and return to his normal level of dominance. [14:02] Kevin and Evan talk about the Cowboys' $2.4 settlement with four Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders after allegations that Rich Dalrymple, the former PR chief, filmed them in their locker room in 2015. [34:00]The Olympics are over, and it was the usual mixed bag of upper-level malfeasance amid athletic highlights. And in the potpourri, Josh Jung got hurt, Juwan Howard got suspended and Phil Mickelson got dissed.

Super Bowl fallout, the Porzingis trade and a rant against MLB Feb 15, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore talk about Matthew Stafford's Super Bowl win [1:00] and what it means for his legacy and how much grace a championship earns a player or organization. David argues the point that it's especially important in Los Angeles, where the NFL has never been front burner. [12:10] Kevin makes the point that the Mavs robbed a little glory in 2011 when they blew up the team before it even had a chance to defend its title. [42:40] And Evan rants about how MLB keeps shooting itself in the foot, the latest example of how it wants to get rid of minor league teams. If it wants to do so, fine, Evan says, but help colleges out by funding more scholarships.

Cowboys' Super Bowl drought, Mavs at the deadline and who's watching the Olympics? Feb 08, 2022
    Show notes

SportsDay Insiders Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and David Moore look at the list of Super Bowl droughts [3:05], and Evan says if the Bengals can end theirs, there's hope for the Cowboys yet. Kevin remembers what it was like the last time a Super Bowl was played in the Los Angeles area, when Jerry Jones won the first of his three Lombardi Trophies at the Rose Bowl. [9:00] David makes the point that dynasties usually spring on us quicker than we expect, which doesn't exactly bode well for Dak Prescott. [22:42] Reggie Bullock's recent surge in play for the Mavs makes passing on Thursday's trade deadline a viable option. Still, David says the Mavs have hard decisions to make in the off-season on free agents Dorian Finney-Smith and Jalen Brunson. [34:08] And in the potpourri segment, Evan talks steroids, David worries about Jordan Spieth's treacherous golf shots and Kevin tells us why he likes Winter Olympics over Summer.
