In our 143rd episode (Salted or Sweet Breakfast) we are going to participate in a situation in which two friends, Nuria and Sonsoles, share an apartment in Madrid. Nuria is from Catalonia and Sonsoles from Madrid. They have many things in common, but the breakfast for the one and the other is completely different. We will know why.

In our 140th episode (Answering greetings) we are going to study the answers to greetings. We have received your messages to do an episode with the answers we usually give greetings. A cause of categories of responses, we prefer not to raise a dialogue in this chapter, but a brief summary of what are the most common answers in Spanish when responding to a greeting. So we give an explanation of it.
En nuestro episodio número 140: Contestando Saludos, vamos a trabajar justo eso, cómo contestar cuando recibimos un saludo, sea el que sea. Hemos recibido algunos mensajes vuestros sugiriéndonos que hagamos un episodio con esas respuestas que damos normalmente cuando se nos saluda. Por las categorías de las respuestas, preferimos hoy no plantear un diálogo en este capítulo, sino hacer una breve exposición de cuáles son las contestaciones más usuales en español a la hora de responder a un saludo. In our 139th episode, Wedding nights, we will analyze a part of the Joaquin Sabina´s song, one of our most beloved songwriters, titled Noches de Boda. We worked this song in the episode of listening practice number 12, but we reviewed it again in depth, this time by our friend Michael´s demand, who suggested we discuss this beautiful song for another look at the present subjunctive forms of desire, as in this case. Moreover, the lexical richness of the song is extraordinary, has a vocabulary that puts your power words, phrases and common expressions in Spanish, full of meaning and poetry. We do it happy, because, again, we believe that one of the most entertaining and motivating ways to further improve your Spanish is through good songs in this language.

En nuestro episodio número 139, Noches de Boda, vamos a analizar una parte de la canción de Joaquín Sabina, uno de nuestros más queridos cantautores, titulada así: Noches de Boda. Ya trabajamos esta canción en el episodio de prácticas nº 12, pero volvemos a revisarla, más en profundidad esta vez, a petición de nuestro amigo Michael, quien nos sugirió analizar esta hermosa canción para volver a repasar el presente de subjuntivo en fórmulas de deseo, como en este caso. Por otra parte, la riqueza léxica de la canción es extraordinaria; posee un vocabulario que pone a vuestro alcance palabras, frases hechas y expresiones muy comunes en español, cargadas de significación y poesía. Por eso lo hacemos encantados, porque, una vez más, creemos que una de las maneras más entretenidas y motivantes de seguir mejorando nuestro español es mediante las buenas canciones en este idioma.

In our 138th episode (Informal Greetings), our friends are meeting today on their apartment where Coral, Luisa, Alejandra and Pilar are still living there. Montse and Luis are also there to eat with them, because it´s been a long time since they all meet together. There is also the Coral´s mother, which has come today to stay with her some days and all her friends know very well because they have gone to take lunch many times at her El Escorial house.

En nuestro episodio número 138 (Saludos informales), nuestras amigas se reúnen hoy en el piso en el que aún viven Coral, Luisa, Alejandra y Pilar. También han venido Montse y Luis para comer con ellas, porque hace tiempo que no se ven. Y también está la madre de Coral, que ha llegado hoy para pasar unos días con ella y a quien todas las amigas conocen porque han ido muchas veces a comer a su casa de El Escorial.

In our 137th episode (Refurbishing the apartment), Montse and Luis bought a flat in second hand, used, and it need to be repaired. There are some old things that need to be restarted. They made a list of everything need to change or upgrade. They want a good job will be done, but that does not cost them much money. Let's see how.
En nuestro episodio nº 137 (Reformas en el piso), Montse y Luis se compran un piso de segunda mano, usado, que necesita reformas. Hay algunas cosas viejas que necesitan ser renovadas. Ellos elaboran una lista con todo lo que necesita cambios o rehabilitación. Quieren que les hagan un buen trabajo, pero que no les cueste mucho dinero. Vamos a ver cómo lo hacen.

In our 136th episode (Anti-smoking Law), Eva and Belén are at a bar where they usually take the coffee break in the break of 20 minutes doing their work. Eva is a smoker and she is furious with the new smoking ban law which came into force on January 2nd of this 2011 and by prohibiting smoking in all enclosed public places. Belén also was a smoker, but she gave it up long ago and now tries to convince Eva about giving up smoking´s benefits.
En nuestro episodio número 136 (Ley Anti-tabaco), Eva y Belén están en un bar en el que habitualmente toman el café de media mañana, en la pausa de 20 minutos que hacen en su trabajo. Eva es fumadora y está furiosa con la nueva Ley Anti-tabaco que ha entrado en vigor a partir del 2 de enero de este 2011 y por la que se prohibe fumar en todos los sitios públicos cerrados. Belén también era fumadora, pero lo dejó hace tiempo y ahora intenta convencer a Eva de las ventajas de dejar de fumar.

In our 135th episode (Al-Ándalus) two friends and classmates, Rosa and Pepa, are talking about a school project about Muslim Spain of the Middle Ages, which for eight centuries was known as Al-Andalus. The Muslim conquered the Iberian peninsula (modern Spain), starting from the South (Andalusia at the present). It certainly was a rule but was also a rich exchange among cultures, languages, knowledge and technical advances that came a big progress to the muslim Spain.One of the most important legacies is the vast number of Arabic words into Spanish and provided we currently use routinely without knowing, frequently, their Arab origin. We go into a little bit to this historical period and know some of its manifestations.

En nuestro episodio nº 135 (Al-Ándalus), dos compañeras de colegio, Rosa y Pepa, comentan un trabajo escolar que hace Rosa sobre la España musulmana de la Edad Media, la que se conoció durante ocho siglos como Al-Ándalus. Los musulmanes conquistaron la península ibérica (la actual España) empezando por la zona sur, la actual Andalucía. Fue una dominación, ciertamente, pero fue también un intercambio de lenguas, culturas, y conocimientos técnicos, que hizo avanzar esa España musulmana con un progreso extraordinario. Uno de los legados más importantes es la inmensa cantidad de palabras que el idioma árabe aportó al español y que hoy usamos de manera habitual, sin conocer, muchas veces, su origen árabe. Vamos a acercarnos un poquito a este periódico histórico y a conocer algunas de sus manifestaciones.

In our 134th episode, Coral and her cousin Sergio are watching the noon news on TV. At this point it is said that Sarkozy´s government has issued a decree to expel thousands of gypsy people from France. Coral thinks this is an miserable act that tramples the most basic human rights. But Sergio has a different opinion: he thinks it is a fear act and he has plenty of reasons to justify it. We will listen to comment and discuss this issue.
En nuestro episodio número 134, Los Gitanos, Coral y su primo Sergio están viendo las noticias del mediodía en la tele. En este momento se está comentando que el gobierno de Sarkozy ha dictado un decreto para expulsar de Francia a miles de gitanos. A Coral le parece un acto miserable que pisotea los derechos humanos más elementales. Sin embargo a Sergio le parece justo y tiene un montón de razones para justificarlo. Vamos a escucharles comentar y debatir este tema.
