230: Preliminary Guide to Universities of Jol-Nar and the Mentak Coalition Jan 19, 2022

Show notes

We're nearing the end of our preliminary guides and today we get to NOT talk about blue tech! Jol-Nar is regarded as one of the higher tier factions, depending on who you ask, and it's primarily due to their monumental amount of flexibility when it comes to tech and defenses. Mentak are seemingly the opposite when it comes to flexibility; these days it's Mirror Computing or bust!

229: Patreon Updates, Tournament Predictions, and What It Would Like if We Were Wrong Hootenanny Jan 11, 2022

Show notes

It's a new year, so we wanted to do some quick Patreon bookkeeping to update everyone on our plans for 2022! Additionally, we wanted to react to and synthesize some errata from last week's faction hootenanny and talk about what the dream world scenario where we are wrong would look like and how various factions might perform differently than what our tier list suggested. Finally there's some very stupid tournament predictions for everyone to keep track of and hold us to, so that should be fun!

A Message Regarding Tabletop Simulator Jan 10, 2022

Show notes

CW: Discrimination
This is not your regularly scheduled episode of SCPT. Some events took place over the weekend regarding Tabletop Simulator and it's developer, Berserk Games. We felt it was necessary to catch everyone up to speed and to make our intents and desires clear. This conversation deals with topics of discrimination in the board gaming community. We hope everyone will listen closely and join us in doing everything we can to make every Twilight Imperium table a safe one for all players.

228: 200% 2nd Annual Prophecy of Kings Faction Tier List but It’s NOT a Tier List, It’s a Cookbook and You Better Be Hungry Jan 05, 2022

Show notes

IT'S A NEW YEAR which means it's time for a new Faction Tier list. This is our annual tradition around here to redefine how we perceive the meta going into the new tournament. Last year's list was a bit of a goof considering how much we knew we didn't know about the game. But we've learned a lot since then, so we can definitely say this one is DEFINITIVE. You're welcome to disagree with our tiers, but you will be capital-W "Wrong."

227: Holiday Spectacular - Survivor Edition Dec 29, 2021

Show notes

Here's a quick one for your Holiday and New Year ears. We talk about the attempted goofy game we played with our friends and what went wrong. We hope to do it again though, so this was just the preview for how good Survivor: Twilight Imperium can be.

226: Round One Negotiations Dec 23, 2021

Show notes

It's almost holiday time, but we have a Galactic Council episode to attend to first! This month, the Sidereal Confluence coalition was betrayed and we instead saw Round One Negotiations rise to the top, which is a perfect opportunity to return to the basics of how to get all the things you want round one, and determining what those wants even are! If only the galactic council was better at negotiating their way into functioning coalitions...

225: 2022 Tournament Structure Dec 15, 2021

Show notes

Well normally I would think an episode like this isn't gonna attract that many listeners, but SO MANY OF YOU signed up for next year's tournament that this announcement episode became a pretty important thing. In it we detail how we will get through the 2022 Patreon Tournament, with an emphasis on the Qualifiers, as well as some discussion on the structure and rules that will be in place in the games themselves. Thank you again to everyone who signed up, you have blown us away with your support and enthusiasm and we look forward to a raucous 2022.

224: Preliminary Guide to Yssaril Tribes and Embers of Muaat Dec 08, 2021

Show notes

The theme of this week's Preliminary Guide is "The Big Stick." We've got two factions who can pack a big punch, but don't always have the point acquisition to make a successful game. Neither are "bad" factions, but there are tricks to both, and it can be hard to navigate their toolsets to find a victory. The best part of all: we don't talk about blue tech very much! So come listen just for that!
