#214 - Dr. Emily Setty - Young People, Consent & Sexual Behavior Dec 26, 2023
    Show notes

Dr. Emily Setty joins Something For Everybody this week. Dr. Emily is a Senior Lecturer at University of Surrey researching young people, harmful sexual behavior and online harms.

In this conversation, Dr. Emily discusses the concerns with consent education and the rhetoric around online sexual behavior. She emphasizes the need for open-ended learning and individual journeys in relationships, rather than prescribing solutions. The conversation also explores the importance of equipping young people with relationship tools and the dangers of narcissistic solutions. Dr. Emily also discusses the challenges of consent and the importance of understanding the complexities of sexual interactions. She emphasizes the need for role models who can model healthy relationships and provide guidance to young boys. Dr. Setty also highlights the importance of open and honest conversations, as well as the impact of social media and education on young people's understanding of consent. She encourages educators to create spaces for dialogue and to empower young people to make informed choices.

#213 - Why Should We Care About Men’s Mental Health? Dec 22, 2023
    Show notes

Solo episode of Something For Everybody. I discuss and breakdown men’s mental health and masculinity.

    Big Takeaways:

    • Boys and men are facing a mental health crisis, and their struggles need more attention and support.
    • Fathers and role models play a crucial role in boys' development and should be encouraged and celebrated.
    • Taking responsibility for mental health involves addressing unhealed trauma, identifying feelings, and setting boundaries.
    • Toxic masculinity is a harmful concept that undermines efforts to support men's mental health and should be replaced with a positive understanding of masculinity.

#212 - Dr. Sarah McKay - Hormones, Women, & The Reality of ’Baby Brain Dec 19, 2023
    Show notes

Dr. Sarah McKay joins Something For Everybody this week. Dr Sarah McKay is a neuroscientist who translates brain research into strategies for professionals working in health, education and coaching. She received her PhD from Oxford, but after five years of postdoc research, she hung up her lab coat to set up Think Brain — a science communications business that bridges the gap between the lab and everyday life. Sarah is the author of The Women's Brain Book—The Neuroscience of Health, Hormones and Happiness, which explores the female lifespan through the lens of neurobiology. Her second book, Baby Brain—the surprising neuroscience of how pregnancy and motherhood sculpt our brains and change our minds (for the better), was published in 2023.

In this conversation, Dr. Sarah McKay discusses various topics related to personal well-being, raising boys, the importance of hormones, misconceptions about hormones and women, the reality of 'baby brain,' and supporting new mothers.
