Do you know about ghosts? 👻🎃 | Encore spook Oct 16, 2026
    Show notes

We are bringing back this one from a few years ago. In this episode, we discover why you might have thought you saw a ghost. We found out that many cultures, even if they are far apart, have tales about ghosts or spirits. We looked at ghosts from a science perspective and learned that sometimes our eyes and brains play tricks on us, like seeing things that aren't really there. We also talked about how you could design an experiment to find out if the ghost your friend saw was real. Plus, we dived into the magical world of rainbows, the buzz of mosquitoes, and the mysteries of our noses. Did you know mosquitoes really like Type O blood and are drawn to carbon dioxide and sweat?

Have a question of your own? We'd love for you to send it to us.

    Sleep Tight!,

Why Is Jupiter’s Great Red Spot Red? 🪐 Oct 14, 2026
    Show notes

Éabha, who is six, and Fionn, who is eight, both wrote to us about the same thing: what is the red spot on Jupiter made of, and why is it red?

In this episode, we'll find out that the Great Red Spot is a storm so big that Earth could fit inside it, and that a spacecraft called Juno has measured how far down it reaches. We'll visit a laboratory where scientists turned a frozen chemical reddish orange, and we'll learn why nobody can say for certain yet what colours the storm.

    Why Do a Butterfly's Wings Match? 🦋 Oct 07, 2026
    Show notes

Luna and Elodie both noticed that the pattern on one side of a butterfly looks copied onto the other. In this episode, we'll find out that butterfly wings actually grow separately, following the same genetic instructions. Along the way, we'll meet two genes that scientists found by switching them off, and see why the match isn't always perfect.

Do Crows Really Hold a Grudge? 🐦‍⬛ Sep 16, 2026
    Show notes

Did you know a crow can remember your face? If it decides you're trouble, it can recognize you years later, and it might tell its friends. Even ones that never met you.
Tonight's question comes from Anthony in Okemos, Michigan, who'd heard that crows hold grudges passed down through generations. We find out what a group of scientists in Seattle discovered when they tested it with rubber masks, and why "grudge" turns out not to be quite the right word.

Did you know the night is never really pitch dark, even with no moon out? There's always a little light, and some animals have eyes built to catch every bit of it.

    Season 5 Finale: Everything Connects 🦏🦭🪲🧠🌌✨ Sep 02, 2026
    Show notes

What does a rhinoceros have in common with a flamingo, a hedgehog, and an eagle? Why does the same logic that put your brain in your head also explain how a crocodile lies in a river? And what does a dung beetle rolling dung across an African savanna have to do with a black hole? In this episode we 5 finale follow five threads that ran through all of season 5.

Do You Know About the Dung Beetle? 🪲 Aug 26, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode, before you drift off to sleep, we are going to learn all about the dung beetle. The dung beetle does a job nobody else wants. It eats dung, rolls dung, and raises its young inside dung. And while we think this is kind of stinky, we think it's a pretty extraordinary creature. You might too.
