With deep rooted beauty beginnings, Lan Belinky was destined to lead a global skincare brand. Born and raised until her young teens in Japan, the infamous center of skin care innovation, Lan was fascinated by the infinite beauty trends and tactics she was continually exposed to. Mesmerized by her Grandmother's meticulous 6-step beauty ritual and her Aunt's unique product application practices; the allure of the beauty world naturally beckoned. In the Spring of 1996, Lan's family moved to the United States so her Father and boscia Founder, Gen Inomata, could realize his dream of bringing Japanese influenced skincare stateside. Lan spoke solely Japanese at the time and worked diligently to learn English as a second language and acclimate into the American culture that was so brand new to her – but always, always held close her Japanese roots.Fast-forward a few years later, Gen's dream was realized and boscia was born. Lan attended The University of the Incarnate Word and graduated with a degree in Business Marketing, while spending every available moment helping to cultivate boscia. After graduating, Lan joined boscia full-time and helped lead many of the brand's major milestones including the first foray into prestige retail. Lan passionately believed in the power of boscia's fusion of botanical (BŌ) science (SHA), and that powerful skincare results could in fact be obtained from good-for-you ingredients. Lan attributes much of her contributions to boscia's growth directly to her biculturality. boscia's first collections (Tsubaki, Sake and Charcoal) were all inspired by her Japanese heritage as was BB Cream, which was the first of its kind to hit the US prestige retail market and garnered staggering success. In the Summer of 2010, Lan unearthed the Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask which catapulted to skincare fame and created the instantly gratifying peel-off mask craze. The Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask continues to reign as a boscia fan-favorite.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

After working at some of San Francisco’s most notable agencies, Jonina and Bradley established Skaggs Creative, moving it to New York City two years later. Understanding the specific requirements of effective branding for a diverse range of businesses, including high-tech, hospitality, fashion, beauty, and fragrance, has been the key to her success, and to Skaggs’ numerous awards. Jonina has shaped a design sensibility and an aesthetic that is simultaneously aspirational, beautiful, and effective. On all project elements, she considers both the macro and micro — firmly believing that perspective and proportion are essential to shape and content. A European sensibility and a concise American directness work together to further her vision. Jonina is also a passionate educator, teaching marketing and communications at the University of Iceland, and branding and packaging at the College of Arts and Crafts in Northern Iceland. After completing his B .A. in architecture, Bradley worked on several urban planning and architectural projects in Germany and Luxembourg and began to embrace two design axioms: “form follows function” and “less is more.” Then in 1998, he and Jonina created SKAGGS Creative, where he serves as Creative Director. The agency’s ability to offer a wide-ranging branding knowledge and experience has earned them numerous industry awards for excellence and design innovation.By digging into the essence of a brand, Bradley works to develop verbal and visual identities as well as insightful marketing and communication strategies. Additionally, he is a professional product photographer, employing his skills to further unify and focus a brand’s identity. Working on all aspects of a brand architecture has solidified Bradley’s core belief about memorable branding.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Megan McIntyre, Digital Beauty Writer, Editor & Brand Consultant Jul 05, 2021
    Show notes

    Let’s Chat

Megan McIntyre is a beauty and wellness writer who got her start in the industry over 16 years ago when she stumbled into an editorial assistant job at WWD Beauty Biz after moving to NYC with no job prospects and $1000 in her bank account. What followed was a career in writing that took her from print to the heyday of digital, when she moved over to Daily Makeover as a senior editor, followed by a cold call to one of the co-founders of Refinery29 that led to her being hired as the head of the fledgling beauty department for the site. After five successful years, she headed out on her own to become a freelance beauty writer, crafting reported features for publications like Byrdie, The Zoe Report, Coveteur, Glamour, Marie Claire, Gossamer, and Fashionista. She also works behind the scenes with many beauty brands as a copywriter and consultant to help them craft engaging marketing communications for consumers. Past clients have included Kiehl's, Ulta, Aveda, Pantene, Nexxus, and many more. After 15 years living in Brooklyn, Megan decided she liked the proximity to skiing better than proximity to bagels (for shame!) and packed up her husband, 13-year-old Schnoodle Ellie, and borderline hoarder levels of face serums to head to Denver, Colorado last March. She loves the mountains and easy access to cannabis edibles, but TBH really misses decent bagels. Follow her on Instagram @megsmcintyre for her skincare nerd outs and perpetually sarcastic take on, well, everything.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support
