    Sketch Comedy Podcast Show

Interesting people. Intriguing conversations. Improvised sketch comedy?!?
Each episode, host Stuart Rice invites someone who is incredibly interesting to have an intriguing conversation about who they are and what they do and then they create an improvised comedy sketch based on what they talked about right then-and-there!
It’s fun, it’s different, and it’s the only show like it on the internet!
Are you interesting? Do you know someone interesting? They would be great for the show! Go to bit.ly/SCPSbeaguest and sign up!

"Strike That Pose" with Kara Cooper | Professional Photographer and Author Sep 17, 2017
    Show notes

My friend Kara Cooper joins the podcast. She is a photographer who does all sorts of really great pictures: wedding pictures, professional head shots, nudes. Lots of nudes. In fact, she has a book of nudes! It has a happy ending! Kara’s book is actually really beautiful, she invited people to really open up and try doing something a little beyond what they were comfortable with. I really like her photos and still plan on using her for my tasteful nudes (you will find out why on the show). If you have a wedding, need a headshot or portrait, want pictures of yoga or, as mentioned before, a nude, she can absolutely help you at [karacooperphotography.com].

By this time, all of the sketches from Season 1 should be on YouTube now! I know that some of you prefer just hearing the sketches, and I totally understand! So, the YouTube page for Sketch Comedy Podcast Show is the place to go and do that! There are playlists for Season 1, Season 2, and I will finally be putting all of the content from the original Sketch Comedy Podcast Show as well! How can you get there? Go to YouTube and search for Sketch Comedy Podcast Show or visit the website [sketchcomedypodcastshow.com] and find the “YouTube” link at the top!

They say that eyes are the cameras to the soul. Or windows. I’m not sure I really understand the statement, but I need to put something in this place so that it looks like I care or something…… oh yeah, cameras. They are great for capturing moments! Sometimes people are really, really good at taking pictures, and will do it for other people who are not so good at it. We call those people photographers! It’s a good thing we have taste-makers, because if we didn’t could you imagine how horrible photography would be? Imagine a world where ANYONE could have a camera on them at all times and be able to share their terrible photos to everyone. What a nightmare that would be.

Every week I like to suggest a podcast to listen to after you are done with this one. This week I… man, it seems like I have been offering a lot of nostalgia lately, anyway… this week I suggest “Radio Max FM”. Why do I suggest “Radio Max FM”? Well, it’s a pretty slickly produced podcast that combines elements of good, old-fashioned radio, independent rock and hip-hop and comedy, this is a great place to scratch that itch! It’s a brand-new podcast, so it will be fun to see how it changes over time! Go to [maxfm.libsyn.com] to listen, subscribe and more!

Rose City Comic Con was this last weekend, which meant that there were a lot of people dressed up like a lot of things in Portland. So, next week, I have nearly professional cos-player and fellow podcaster Edward Noil on the show to talk about dressing up and how it ain’t easy being green.

"Take Me To Your Boy Band Leader" with Mike Phirman | Musician and Comedian Sep 03, 2017
    Show notes

Mike Phirman is a fantastic songwriter of comedy music for kids (not kids music, HUGE distinction. Seriously). I have been a fan of Mike’s since I heard “American Dinosaur”

    and “Anything”

with his band “Hard ’n Phirm” with Chris Hardwick, and saw him perform live here in Portland a couple of years ago with my oldest daughter (her first concert and she actually liked Mike more than headliner Jonathan Coulton, but don’t tell him that in case he is ever on this show). One of the things I really like about Mike is that he is really genuinely nice and was just so pleasant to talk to. Also, I surprise him at the end of the conversation, but he was a really great sport about it! Just to be clear, I was actually really nervous doing this recording, because I am kind of a big fan. Also, we recorded two sketches! The second one will have to wait until the end of the season, but there is something to look forward to!

Make sure to check out Mike’s latest album, “The Very Last Songs I Will Ever Record (Part 1)” where you can get it on BandCamp for $5! ( http://music.mikephirman.com/album/the-very-last-songs-i-will-ever-record-part-1 ) you can also check out the amazing “Horses and Grasses” album he did with Chris Hardwick as “Hard ’n Phirm” ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/horses-and-grasses/id269730543 )

Do you like free money? I know you do, who doesn’t? How about a lot of free money? Look, I won my fantasy football league last year and yes, I’m using it to brag, but there is a much easier and less expensive way to make money… REVIEWS OF THIS PODCAST! And, not only am I planning on giving away money, we get to see who is actually the better fans… Apple or Google! How does all of this work? For the next week (that’s September 3rd to September 9th), for every review I get for this podcast on either Apple Podcasts or the Google Play store, I will add a dollar to a pot. At the end of the week, I will randomly pick a review from whichever side gets more reviews and send a gift card to that person for the amount of reviews that I get. Don’t fret, I’m planning on doing this multiple times and, if it is successful, I might just do it on a weekly basis! So share the links and let’s get some money flowing!

They descend from the heavens and awe us with their superior technology and bizarre mating habits, extraterrestrial beings (also known as aliens, but I want to make sure not to offend anyone, or thing, or in-between) will one day come and take their dominion over our planet. Sound bleak? It does now, because movies and media have all been doing a very good job of convincing us that aliens like to destroy buildings and do bizarre mating rituals. But in fact, if they were to really conquer the planet, aliens would target the one weapon that would finish us all… pop stars… then maybe do bizarre mating habits with them.

Well, I don’t know if they will be great improvisors, but I can tell you that I mentioned winning my fantasy football title last year, and I had to add the hashtag #FootclanTitle because it was because of my listening to Andy, Mike and Jason of “The Fantasy Footballers” ( https://www.thefantasyfootballers.com ) that helped me make the right decisions for my draft, keep an eye on the waiver wire and, most importantly, kept me up to date AND entertained! These guys are great, give phenomenal advice and someday I even hope to get them on the show! If you are at all interested in fantasy football, or want to understand what all this crazy fantasy football hype is, this is a great place to start! I’m obviously very excited about this season of Sketch Comedy Podcast Show and another chance to win the coveted “Pattenburg” trophy again!

Next week, in episode 32, I sit down with my friend Kara Cooper, a photographer that likes to take pictures of people with no clothes on and we discuss the decoration that I am going to be adding to my fantasy trophy. Hint: It does not involve pants.

"Sultry Single Radio Hour" with Donal Connolly | Host of "Behave Yourself" and Scholar Apr 09, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTuber here!:

Humans do all sorts of weird things, which is why this week’s guest, Donal Connolly, creates his podcast “Behave Yourself” (https://itun.es/gb/RZRQhb.c ) to get them all figured out. With a little bit of psychology, sociology, anthropology… well, all the ologies, Donal and his co-hosts explore why we do the things we do. Also, he has an accent, which makes what he says more interesting and more believable. Yes, I fall prey to that. We talk about his educational endeavors, what it’s like to date overseas vs. here in the US, and then we record a sketch about all those things!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s right around the corner. That’s right, Season 2 of the new Sketch Comedy Podcast Show is almost upon us, and we are VERY excited about it. To celebrate, we are going to have a review drive, so that we can get some serious review numbers and we can give away something really cool! We are also going to solve the question of which company is better… Apple or Google! At least we will solve the question of which listeners are better. For the week of the first episode’s release, whomever leaves reviews in Apple Podcasts or Google Play Store for our show has a chance to win a gift card for $100 for that particular store (or Amazon, or wherever you would like)! It’s a review! Hit the 5-stars, write something nice, and you’re entered! The winner will be announced on Sunday September 10th! I know, originally we were going to do charity, but I feel like people can use a little something for themselves, I’ll figure out the charity thing later. Here’s what I need you to do, write the review, take a screenshot of it on your phone, like our Facebook page and post the review on there, that way I know who you are! Thank you in advance for the reviews!

Technology really does enrich our lives, regardless of what anyone says. Think of how much our lives changed when the wheel was invented… maybe that’s too far back, what about the radio. Originally created for to sole purpose to melt people’s minds from a distance for the military (I’ll find my sources later) Marconi found it was also good for beaming voices from one place to another. The radio allowed all of us to come together over a Little Orphan Annie radio show, experience sporting events we would only dream of being able to listen to in real life and eventually evolved into call-in talk shows and conservative talk radio! On second thought, maybe we would be better off without it…

I like to talk about other shows, but in, like, a good way. So this week I want to highlight a show that was suggested to me called “Department of Understanding Humans”. (duhwebsite.com) Described as a podcast about life, the universe and everything I had to check it out. Though there are no posed questions to the answer “42”, there are a lot of jokes and funny things said. Honestly, I don’t know if they have solved any mysteries, but Rachel Reese and Kristian Meyer have guests on the show and talk about things. It’s a fun show and worth checking out AFTER you listen to this show!

Next episode is going to be a best of. I really have to get to work on it, like, right now.

"Take Me to Church" with Jimmy Asbell | Author and more than a Survivor... a Thriver! Feb 26, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTuber here!:

Let me tell you about Jim Asbell. Not only is Jim one of the best people I ever had the pleasure to work with, he saved my tookus more than once and helped me realize I was probably working in the wrong place, but he is also just a fantastic human being. What makes him fantastic? Well, he is one of the last people to have polio… wait, that doesn’t make him fantastic, that just makes him have polio…. Well, he is also dying from stage IV colon cancer! What the hell am I talking about? That doesn’t make him fantastic, that just makes me sad. Oh, I know what I meant to say: even though he has had hardship from the time he was very little, and got the rotten luck of getting cancer later in life, he approaches these things with more zest and gusto than I deal with someone at McDonalds getting my order wrong. Jim is so dedicated to living life to the fullest, and having other people do the same, he wrote an amazing book entitled “Live Well With Terminal Illness and Other Crappy Diseases” (buy a copy here: http://amzn.to/2miEt9t and all proceeds are donated to cancer research). Not only is it a good book to read if you are dying, it is a tremendous read for anyone who is feeling particularly stuck in this world. You have no idea how good you have it, but Jim does and let’s you know you are wasting it. Not only that, but he does amazing portraits of pets! (jimmy-asbell.pixels.com). Oh, we talk about all the things, and we also record a sketch which had my jaw on the floor… Jimmy knows how to party!

Honestly, I usually try to talk to you about something blah blah blah about this podcast, but you really should read “Live Well with Terminal Illness and other Crappy Diseases” it is really good. You can even get the Audible version! That’s how I read it!

When we need spiritual guidance, where is the first place we turn? The internet, of course! After getting caught in a YouTube spiral for three days the next place you go is to church. Church is the place where we reset the moral compass and get our souls back on track. We seek counseling from our church leaders and listen intently to their well-crafted and loving sermons. Well, most of the time. Actually, I haven’t been to church in a very long time and that’s actually been pretty good for me, except it’s harder to get casual sex.

We love podcasts and we know you do too! We also know you love this podcast best, but there are other podcasts to listen to. One you could absolutely choose to do that with is “Designated Drinkers”. Do you like drinkers who drink? Of course you do! That’s what this podcast is about!

Looking forward to the next episode! Alisha Holland comes back to the show and we do a sketch pitching the newest in exercise tools, the “FitBit Truth”.

"I Got That New-Time Religion" with Jim Greenfield | Host of Conservative Talk Show "The Decline and Fall of America" Feb 19, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTuber here!:

Stuart invites the nororious radio host Jim Greenfield onto the podcast. Jim has been fired from the radio 7 times, which is the same amount of times that Rush Limbaugh has been fired, the biggest difference is that Rush Limbaugh earns $32M a year. Jim is also a conservative talk show host, but has decided to give up on radio and start his own podcast, called “The Jim Greenfield Show Podcast”. Let’s see if he can become the first person ever fired from his own podcast. Although Stuart doesn’t agree with ANYTHING Jim says, it is still a good discussion.

Note: The recording session had some technical issues (okay, Stuart’s computer ran out of power so they had to record on his phone) but it doesn’t take away from the interesting conversation.

It’s going to be a great next couple of weeks! Stuart is working on the new episodes and is continuing to record with interesting people! Do you happen to know someone who is interesting? Suggest them! It’s easy, just send us a message on Twitter @SketchComPod or on Facebook (just look up Sketch Comedy Podcast Show) and you can suggest someone you would like to hear, even if you don’t know that person yourself. Or, even yourself! We here at Sketch Comedy Podcast Show really want to make the show you want to listen to, and your participation is key to that!

About this week’s sketch: From ancient times to today, humanity has been guided by one thing and one thing alone. This thing has driven millions to make decisions based on the faith that humans hold in this influential force. Temples and places of great importance have been erected in celebration of this one thing that drives men and women and keeps them in-line with the rules and dogma that are taught them. Religion? Nah. The thing that really drives people… greed.

Here at Sketch Comedy Podcast Show, we understand that you have a lot of podcasts demanding your time. And we have to say, you made a good choice with this one! But, if you need something else to listen to until the next episode is up, we suggest the “Bombs Away” podcast. Why? Because Jonathan, Kallan and Jarrett watch bad movies and then tear them apart. We are big fans of podcasts that allow us to know what is really dumb about things without actually having to suffer through them ourselves. Find them on Apple Podcasts or go to https://bombsaway.podbean.com

See you in the next episode where I invite another Jim, this time author Jim Asbell, to come onto the show to talk about death and more religion… It is a LOT more fun than you think! This upcoming episode easily has the most jarring and shocking line ever!

"We Can Manage Our Way Through This" with The Sprocket Podcast | Portland's own Podcast about Bikes and Everything Else! Feb 12, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTube here!:

The Sprocket Podcast (@SprocketPodcast) consists of Brock (@brockmon) and Aaron (@RdHareAmngHrses, Aaron is a bike in this… he was not very bike-like when we met, but maybe he was in disguise) . The Sprocket Podcast is a podcast about bikes, transit, life, and all sorts of good stuff in the wonderful world of Portland, OR. We had a lot of fun recording in their recording RV… I have to say I am a little jealous. We talk about all sorts of things: podcasting, Portland, management… the important things! Then, we record a really clever sketch. It was a ton of fun!

Just another nice reminder that the new season of the podcast starts September 3rd! It’s going to be a hum-dinger of an episode! I don’t know if you’ve ever dinged a hum, but I have to tell you, it’s much better than if you don’t! Also… reviews! Subscribe and review!

In this week’s sketch: They are mentors, guiding us through our careers and making us better workers, and people, in the long run. Whether they are directly telling \ what to do, or just simply there to cover our asses when we screw up, managers can be fantastic. Unless there is a problem. Then they are a complete waste of time and money.

This podcast exists because of other podcasts, and sometimes we just want to talk about different podcasts. You shouldn’t listen to just one, but if it is going to be just one this one is the right choice. If you are looking for something a little different though, this week I would suggest “Forgotten TV”. “Forgotten TV” is a podcast about TV shows from the 70s and 80s that really does a good job of scratching that nostalgia itch without actually having to go back and suffer through watching a lot of the shows. One thing I will say about nostalgia, it’s usually best left in your head. However, “Forgotten TV” is fantastic because the host, Chris Cooling, does all of the work for you and all you have to do is listen and fondly remember where you were when you found out who shot JR. Go to Apple Podcasts http://bit.ly/SCPSforgottentv or http://forgottentv.podbean.com to subscribe!

And, while you are there, sneak over to our page and give us a review! Thank you very much ahead of time!

Come back for the next episode where I invite conservative talk show host Jim Greenfield to do the one thing we all want to do… start a religion.

    • Forgotten TV by Chris Cooling on Apple Podcasts — This podcast exists because of other podcasts, and sometimes we just want to talk about different podcasts. Go to http://forgottentv.podbean.com or go to your favorite podcast repository and type in “forgotten tv”

"It’s All in the Bag" with Katie BBB | You would never guess what she does in real-life. Feb 05, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTube here!:

Stuart invites his friend Katie BBB to the show and… holy shit it turns out great! We solve swamp ass, discuss artificial intelligence and how pissed off it will be when it awakens and realizes how much we have sexually abused them and foo foo bags… we will leave that to the episode to describe it. We then take all of that and create a sketch.

Seriously, this might be @Stoopac’s favorite recording session. It was almost lost to the world, but somehow he found a way to hack his system to find the audio. It is good that happened, it would be a tragedy if this was lost to the world!

Are you liking the show? Then stop sitting there twiddling your fingers or keeping your hands on the wheel safely, head over to Apple Podcasts (bit.ly/SCPSitunes) or Google Play (bit.ly/SCPSgplay) and leave a review now!

We all know one thing, pregnant women are smug as shit. And why wouldn’t they be? Think about it, a woman and a bad, drunken decision can result in the miracle of child birth. Frankenstein tried to make life and see what happened? Frankenstein’s monster went on a murderous rampage killing most of those in front of him. That was a warning to us all, that we shouldn’t meddle in the laws of nature.

Did you know that Sketch Comedy Podcast Show has a blog? You didn’t? Shame on me. There are neat little articles about being a guest, podcasting, and all sorts of things. This upcoming season, it is going to be a place where you can hear about each episode and how it was formed. Head over to sketchcomedypodcastshow.com and take a look!

Next week’s episode is a really big fan favorite as I team up with The Sprocket Podcast and we have a really fun time recording in a travel trailer!

"Wanna Join a Band?" With Aaron Ryder | Sex-positive and the most energetic person... ever! Jan 22, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTube here!:

This week, Stuart invites his friend Aaron Ryder onto the show because Aaron Ryder is unique. Unique in a way that is delightful and refreshing. He wears two different shoes all the time. He wears a necktie regardless of whether or not he is wearing a shirt. He is not an actor, but finds his way to stages because that’s the type of guy he is. Aaron also has some AMAZING FUCKING STORIES! He shares a couple of these stories, one of which will be told on stage in this year’s “Mystery Box Theater” coming up in August a show in Portland that is well worth your time and money (and, if you happen to go, you will likely see Stuart there).

So, for this part this week I am going to ask you for a favor. Maybe you’ve been listening for a while, or maybe you are new, but I want to get a nice “best of” for Season 1 and would be fascinated to hear what you out there in podcast land feel are the best bits so far. Is there a part of a conversation that was awesome? Or maybe you have a favorite sketch? Send them in! Let me know and I’ll compile them for Episode 30! Connect via Twitter (@SketchComPod), Facebook (sketchcomedypodcastshow), email (sketchcomedypodcastshow@gmail.com), or even that old-timey way of communicating the voice phone (207-200-5993). If you are driving or I spoke too fast, this info is also in the show notes or on the website.

Our favorite thing in the world are reviews… okay, first money then reviews. But we do love reviews! So much so that on September 3rd, this podcast is going to have a contest for the internet where you get to vote for the most important thing on the planet… who has the best Podcast store? Is it Apple Podcasts or Google Play? You will help get to decide! Follow us on Twitter or Facebook and find out how you can cast your vote AND give money to charity without needing to do anything but click and type a bit!

Also, make sure to come back next episode with my friend Katie BBB so we can discover what an ovipositor is! (Hint: it’s an alien sex toy and it’s a real thing)

"Foreign Culinary Delight" with TJ Wichman | World Traveler Jan 15, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTube here!:

Stuart welcomes his friend and world traveler TJ Wichman onto the show. In his first meeting of TJ, Stuart knew that TJ was an interesting guy and he was not wrong. TJ has spent a lot of time circling the globe, knows a number of languages and has probably lived in whatever place you can imagine. TJ is also a big fan of reggae music and, quite honestly, is often the circle peg trying to fit into the square hole; but he is so disarming and interesting people are still drawn to him. Because of this, Stuart feels he is a kindred spirit. Stuart is definitely hoping to see TJ’s face on National Geographic because that’s where he should be.

Have you subscribed to the podcast yet? If not, it’s a good time to do it before September 3rd. I know I’m hitting everyone really hard with reruns just trying to get all of the old episodes updated and up on the new site, but I’m really loving this new format and I hope you are too. While you are subscribing, if you could leave a review, that would be fantastic! Or, better yet, wait for September 3 to September 9 where we are going to do a review drive and Stuart plans on giving away a lot of money to a charity! Keep in touch for more details!

And now, Sketch Comedy Podcast Show presents “Foreign Culinary Delight with TJ Wichman”

Have you ever shared the show on Facebook, or retweeted the link on Twitter? Doesn’t take long and you might actually really make someone’s day if they are looking for something new to listen to! There are share buttons in iTunes, Google Play, and on our website sketchcomedypodcastshow.com. It’s fun, easy, and you will absolutely help save an endangered species. What’s the connection there? Chaos Theory. Can I explain it? No. If I could I probably wouldn’t be making this podcast you should share with all of your friends.

The next episode features Aaron Ryder, a friend of mine, who has a story that is sort of like “Pretty Woman” but is a lot more twisted and scary! You’re going to love it!

"Totally Appropriate Audition" with Laura Welsh | Actress and Director Jan 08, 2017
    Show notes

Watch the sketch on YouTube here!:

This week brings the lovely and talented and… okay, to be honest Stuart has a little bit of a crush on this week’s guest. Here’s the story: after the episode with Kelly Guimont, who is also quite amazing, Laura Welsh liked the tweet and Stuart saw her red hair and was curious and checked out her profile for, you know, professional reasons, and noticed that she was a local actress in Portland. So, in the most non-creepy way ever he contacted her to see if she would be interested in doing the show! And, after doing a background check and having Stuart go through a battery of psychological tests, she was! It was a really fun conversation and during it we find out a lot about auditioning, acting, and that Laura is in a really great relationship… which is good. No really. I’m really happy for them. Go to the website under “Guests” and you can be a total creep… er, do some research yourself! She has an IMDB page and, embedded there, is her short about online dating which is really funny!

And in this week’s sketch: we can all agree, auditions are the most exciting thing about being in the entertainment industry. It’s like going for a job interview, over and over, every single day and most of the time you don’t get the job. It’s a great way to learn about ones self, especially how far one will go to finally land a fucking job already!

So you think you can dance…. Well, I’ve seen your moves and I’m not sure that’s the case. But, I can tell you that you can be interesting and, if you decide to come onto the show, you can be funny too! Are you an interesting person? Do you know an interesting person? Is there someone interesting you would like me to have on the show? Let me know! I am constantly looking for people that are interesting to have on the show. Notice I didn’t say funny people, I didn’t say entertaining… just interesting. If you have a story or a job or a hobby, or just something that not everyone does or, maybe you are just a normal human being, that works too! Go to the website sketchcomedypodcastshow.com and click on “Be a Guest!” At the top of the page and fill out a very short form and you might hear your voice on this podcast! Well, not this one, but a future one. You know what I mean.

And now, episode 20 “Totally Appropriate Audition”
