El Roi- a God who sees We have a God who is Eternal (experiences the past, present, and future simultaneously) and He is Infinite (has no boundaries)...and He can see and hear eternally and infinitely!! In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2 God is a triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Three in one. One God, three different aspects is His character that have different purposes. We also see that He is... 1. Self- existent 2. Self-sufficient 3. Infinite 4. Eternal In order to have an adequate view of God, we need to know more about His character. We are created multifaceted. Body, mind, and spirit. So when it come to discipleship (teaching others to follow Christ) we need to make sure we incorporate all aspects that God has created. “Sometimes you don’t need prayer. We are living in crazy times. But let’s make the best use of it. What is essential to you?! How has COVID-19 changed you? Or has it? What is Discipleship? It’s the process of making a disciple. What is a disciple? Merriam-Webster defines disciple as one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another: such as Christianity. The Greek definition of "disciple" - mathéteuó - to be a disciple, to make a disciple. Helping someone progressively learn the Word. If we look at the Great Commission closely in Matthew 28:19-20 we see that being a disciple commands discipleship. Discipleship is the process of "making disciples." We, as believers and followers of Christ, are commanded to "go make disciples"...to reproduce the faith...reproduce the process of Gather, Grow, Go, and Give. It is the process Jesus used in His ministry. Gather - He gathered a group of 12 Grow - He taught them insight into the Word by walking through life with them and applying Truth. Life on Life. Go - He sent them out into their areas of influence to gather others. Give - He asked them to give all their resources (their very lives) to further the Kingdom. Too many people want to stay in the "growing" and learning phase. Which is great! We are always learning and growing in Christ. It is a lifelong process. But we are not called to just grow in knowledge of Him. We are called to "go." We all have a need to make a difference in the world. No matter your age, we all long to make an impact and be a powerful influence. But we start looking around at what others are doing and we get sidetracked and distracted. We start to compare ourselves to others. This is exactly what the enemy wants so we won’t be powerful and effective. The Apostle Paul talked about this in 2 Corinthians 10:12-18. He talked to the church at Corinth about comparison, influence, and goals. We each have been given an area of influence. We are one body but with many gifts. God has given each of us unique gifts, talents, and stories to make His name great. But when we start to make a name for ourselves He will frustrate our plans. The cost of following Jesus...renounce all that you have (Luke 14:33). Unclenched fists and open palms. Humbly acknowledging that everything that you have comes from above. Make wise choices as you disperse God’s gifts back out into the world to display His glory.
What if the things that caused you the most hurt became the birthplace of your deepest passion? What if you could get past your fears and insecurities and spend the rest of your life doing the work God has created for you to do?! What if you became God’s holiness on display to those around you? Moses and the burning bush. Do we have burning bushes today?! Just like God called Moses to free the Israelites, God calls you and me to free those He has placed in our lives from sin and bondage. Your vocation is key! As you walk in a manner worthy of your calling you will be called to leave your vocation or redefine it.
We were dead in our trespasses...”But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ..” Why are we as believers in Christ, living defeated lives? Do not let your past or present define you. Find your life in Christ, living meaningful and purposeful lives now where God has you. You have a unique, one-of-a-kind story. Share it!
God has placed each of us where we are in this very moment for His glory and His good purpose. We each have a story to tell. Listen in to gain clarity and understanding on your calling.
