Cooking is Love Made Edible with Alex Hill Feb 07, 2022
    Show notes

This show and all the work I do centering Black women is a celebration of US all year round, but in honor of Black History Month, I'm kicking off each episode over the next few weeks introducing you to women who were truly "doing that" long before many of us were born. This week, I'm paying homage to Edna Lewis. The granddaughter of formerly enslaved people, Edna Lewis was born in 1916 in Freetown, Virginia and grew up to be a great chef, culinary ambassador, and caretaker of genuine Southern cooking. Mrs. Lewis transitioned in 2006 at the age of 89 and paved the way for all of the women we know in the culinary arts world including today's guest, Alex Hill better known as Just Add Hot Sauce. Alex Hill is a Washington, D.C. based, self-taught cook with a passion for making food that’s filled with flavor, functional and affordable. Produced by Dear Media

The Netflix original series had our undivided attention this holiday season as one of the most-watched shows on the platform. This week on the She Did That. podcast, I'm sitting down with one of Selling Tampa's brightest stars to talk about what it's like to be a Black woman in real estate, the power in navigating the world with an abundance mindset, and knowing when it's time to walk away.

The Psychological Cost of Infertility with Sheinelle Jones Dec 13, 2021
    Show notes

You may know Sheinelle Jones as the co-host of the 3rd Hour of TODAY, but this morning she's joining me to talk about her latest passion project which takes her from in front of the camera to working behind the scenes as the EP of her documentary, Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret.

While this is her first film, we all know that Sheinelle is no stranger to storytelling. Since joining NBC News in 2014, she has covered a variety of breaking news events and human-interest stories. Today, we'll be talking about what inspired her to follow five women of color as they reflect on the psychological and physical pain of infertility. They tackle everything from in vitro fertilization (IVF), endometriosis, fibroids, egg freezing to surrogacy. For too long, these women, like so many others, have handled these challenges in silence, but are now coming together to speak their truth with the hope of enlightening and empowering others.

Brand Elevation & the Beauty of Black Love w/Nichole Lynel Nov 29, 2021
    Show notes

Today's episode of the She Did That. podcast is a moment for me because it's one of the very first in-studio shows I recorded at Dear Media during my recent trip to Los Angeles. When I was considering who to invite as my special guests, Nichole Lynel was one of the first women who came to mind. As a fashion designer and entrepreneur, Nichole's brand is on fire right now. Six years after launching her business, Nichole has become an official supplier for Nordstrom. She has created, designed, and produced a twenty-piece Holiday Glam Collection for the retailer that will be available in-stores and online December 1st, 2021. I really hope you enjoy this beautiful conversation with Nichole as much as I did. Let's hear what she has to say about this magical time in her life... Produced by Dear Media

Keeping Your Energy High as Seasons Change with Dr. Mariel Buque Nov 22, 2021
    Show notes

Today on the She Did That. podcast we're unpacking the topic of seasonal blues with Dr. Mariel Buque. We're just a few weeks into Daylight Savings Time, and unless you live in Arizona or Hawaii, this means it's getting darker much earlier and the temps are dropping as we head into the winter months. For many, this change of seasons means more than cooler weather, it can also be the onset of SAD, which is seasonal affective disorder. SAD, or the winter blues affects women more than men, though researchers are not quite sure why. To put this in perspective, about 75% of people who get seasonal affective disorder are women, which is why Dr. Buque was the perfect guest for this week's show.
