    Show notes

Famed actor/director Stanislavski's "Magic If" describes an ability to imagine oneself in a set of fictional circumstances and to envision the consequences of finding oneself facing that situation in terms of action. In a way, that's what Anna David did when she wrote an article for Playboy magazine about sex and dating—because she didn't have much advice to give. Anna bravely shares how just "assuming the position" led to more articles, books, and a Playboy photoshoot.

    Jason LaChance:

"With a family history of addiction, the patterns were set early that I too would fall prey to addiction. I have a 20-year background in radio broadcasting, which was an amazing passion allowing me to speak with an audience based on a common bond in loving music. But there was something missing, after going through a divorce, and becoming a single father I started my journey of confronting that I was an alcoholic. As I began to embrace my addiction and speak with others openly about it, I realized I needed a change to have a more purposeful life helping others.

The purposeful challenge and opportunity that I was looking for came when I bumped into Carlos Vieira in the grocery store. Along with the release of his autobiography 'Knockin' Doorz Down' he presented me with the opportunity to speak with others that are not only afflicted by addiction but other areas of great adversity and how they overcome their situation to live a more purposeful life.

It is an honor to speak with people in a vulnerable and loving environment with the goal of helping others on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast knowing that they're not alone in whatever they're going through and have been through. I take great pride in being a part of affirming that anyone can keep growing daily, make positive changes and keep Knockin' Doorz Down."

    Lindsay Pt. 1: Cyber Monday — I’m a Compulsive Shopper & Spender Nov 29, 2021
    Show notes

It started with a credit card from Victoria's Secret, and before she knew it, Lindsay found herself with several credit cards, thousands of dollars in debt, and desperate to hide it all from her husband. The purchases weren’t extravagant or luxurious, just a coffee here, a lunch out here, a couple of tops at Target, and then, BAMM! Living a life of vagueness and fantasy comes at a price. Lindsay’s been attending Debtors Anonymous for seven months, hasn’t incurred any unsecured debt, paid off her bills, and currently lives in abundance as she tackles compulsive spending.

Liz Svatek: I Cut Ties With My Toxic Sister Nov 22, 2021
    Show notes

It’s never easy to cut someone out of your life. And when it comes to family, it’s especially hard to accept that a family member is creating so much stress, anxiety, and pain that you cant continue to have a relationship with them. Liz Svatek has had a toxic relationship with her sister for over 40 years and she finally realized she was hurting herself by not setting boundaries. People can change, but toxic people rarely do. They lack self-awareness and don’t take responsibility for their actions. And since they don’t see how their behavior hurts you, they refuse to change. Instead, they blame you and expect you to cater to their demands.

My G-String Scholarship: Stripping To Pay For School Nov 15, 2021
    Show notes

Sometimes called The G-String Scholarship: College Students Strip to Pay Tuition Costs. College students say they make more than enough money to graduate debt-free. Young women in pursuit of a higher education use their stripper earnings to pay for tuition. Stripping to pay for school may sound like a cliché to some, but it was the fastest and easiest way for Celeste to pay for her teaching credentials.

When Celeste moved to California, several courses didn’t transfer to get her California teaching credentials, and she had a full year of school ahead of her. What started out as a job interview as a cocktail waitress quickly turned into a lucrative way for her to pay for school. But not without its consequences. Decades later, there’s still a part of her that feels shame about it. But why should it be shameful? There are always groups of people and religious groups that will find pretty much anything wrong and sinful, but is it really? We explore the effect over the years and what sharing the secret and releasing the shame has brought about a huge breakthrough in her life.
