Secret Histories of Nerd Mysteries: Ep.25 Goes to the Movies Double Feature Pt. 2 Twitches & Happy Halloween Scooby Doo Dec 09, 2020

Show notes

Host Austin, and Host Brenda return to the movies to round off Spooky Month (which is actually November now). The first feature is the Disney Channel Original Movie “Twitches”, the tale of twin witches separated at birth who discover they have magical powers. It’s in the top ten of Disney Channel Movies, and is Austin’s favorite movie that takes place on Halloween.

The second film is “Happy Halloween Scooby Doo” which, baffling enough, is Scooby Doo’s first Halloween film. You’ve got Elvira, you’ve got Bill Nye, you’ve got the actual Scarecrow from the Batman Universe. You’ve got the best Scooby Doo movie in twenty years.

It’s the end of an era, and potentially the end of the world. For the first time in almost 60 years, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” will not air on cable. What does this mean for other Snoopy specials that have faded into obscurity? Why does Sony Music Japan own a major chunk of the “Peanuts” Company? And just who is Wild Brain Entertainment? We only answer some of these questions. Others, we’re hoping you can answer for us.

Secret Histories of Nerd Mysteries: Ep.23 The Blade Trilogy, and also, the McBarge Nov 25, 2020

Show notes

Spooky Month continues with Marvel’s often forgotten blockbuster movie “Blade”. Without “Blade” you can forget your precious MCU. Your Iron Mans. Your Thors. Your Captain Americas. “Blade” paved the way for superhero movies as mainstream entertainment. Host Brenda also talks about the McBarge, a floating Mcdonalds. It’s relevant. Trust me.

Secret Histories of Nerd Mysteries: Ep.18 Brenda and Austin Go to the Movies! Oct 21, 2020

Show notes

Welcome to the first episode of "Goes to the Movies" today Host Austin and Host Brenda talk about "Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace, Vs. The Universe" and the 2020 Disney Plus exclusive non-theatrical movie "Mulan".

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: SHoM went to the movies! We tried something new & hope you enjoy! During this episode we both speak of how we enjoyed the film Mulan. We’ve learned since recording last Friday, that there are many issues with the film according to Chinese individuals speaking out. These complaints need to be heard, and our opinions as non Chinese podcasters mean nothing compared to the people who feel that the film is inaccurate and even damaging. Please take some time to read through the threads below (More will be added as we find them).

We still want to share our initial reactions to the film, and so are uploading the full episode unaltered, but please take some time to read and reflect.

Thank you!
