Seahawks-Broncos PREVIEW: Who has the advantage in week one? With Broncos podcaster Amir Farrell Sep 07, 2024

Show notes

After what felt like the longest offseason in years, the Seattle Seahawks are set to launch the first Mike Macdonald-led season Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle against the Denver Broncos.

Much has changed in two short years since the last time these two teams faced off, with the Seahawks winning the 2022 opener 17-16 in what was the first game with Russell Wilson quarterbacking the Broncos after a stunning offseason trade.

Wilson has moved on, and now Bo Nix is in place as the presumptive franchise QB for Sean Payton after being selected in the first round out of Oregon in April.

Is Nix ready for what Macdonald and his vaunted defensive scheme has in store? Or is the Payton-Nix combo going to be formidable right out of the gate?

Amir Farrell of Predominantly Orange and the Broncos Avenue podcast joins me for this in-depth preview of what the Seahawks are set to face in this Broncos team.

Checking in on the Seattle Seahawks salary cap health, with cap expert Curtis Allen Sep 02, 2024

Show notes

Take a quick look at any salary cap website and you'll see that the Seattle Seahawks project to be significantly OVER the cap in 2025, but does that signal trouble for John Schneider and his front office staff?

Not necessarily, according to today's guest.

Curtis Allen is a guest contributor to the Seahawks Draft Blog where he puts his math and accounting background to good use, combined with his lifelong passion as a Seahawks fan.

Listen to this episode, and you just might feel a lot better about the Seahawks financial future, which could very well translate to success on the field as well.

Are the Seahawks building a GOOD young LB core? With NFL analyst Griffin Sturgeon Aug 31, 2024

Show notes

Griffin Sturgeon is one of the best film analysts in the NFL universe along with his Seattle Overload Podcast co-host Matty Brown. This draft cycle, Griffin was particularly hard on the Seahawks selection of ILB Tyrice Knight in the 4th round of the NFL draft.

But.... how's he feeling about the pick now? Has a solid preseason helped change his evaluation of Knight?

And how does he feel about the entire collection of talent at the position, including a new practice squad addition who just happened to be Griffin's FAVORITE LB prospect in the draft?

While we focus on ILB's today, I'll also get Griffin's insight into some other aspects of the overall initial Seattle Seahawks 53-man roster as well.

Seahawks beat reporter Gregg Bell on the initial roster, and what may be next Aug 29, 2024

Show notes

While the Seattle Seahawks set their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, there still may be some heavy-lifting yet to be done at a couple of key spots.

Long-time beat reporter Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune and KJR sports radio joins me from the VMAC today to share his insight into where the Hawks may still need to add before the bullets start flying for real against the Denver Broncos week 1.

Roster-Palooza! Surprises highlight Seahawks cut to 53 players - focus now turns to practice squad Aug 28, 2024

Show notes

The Seahawks set their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday and it came with a number of surprises. Now the task of filling out the practice squad takes center stage.

My initial thoughts on the roster and practice squad signings (so far) and what they might tell us about the bigger picture. Also, what it might tell us about what comes next!

Seahawks lose Uchenna Nwosu for several weeks - move quickly to add OLB with ANOTHER trade Aug 26, 2024

Show notes

Now that the Seattle Seahawks know they'll be without star OLB Uchenna Nwosu for a matter of weeks, they can adjust their roster accordingly before the official cutdown to 53 players by Tuesday's deadline.

They took one step towards protecting themselves today by acquiring OLB Trevis Gipson from Jacksonville.

What's still unknown is whether Nwosu will need to be placed on IR, which would require him to miss at least 4 games.

I'll react to this news, as well as a couple new lists from ESPN and the Athletic. Where do the Seahawks players rank on ESPN's Top 100 players list and Mike Sando's QB tiers? I'll get into it.

REACTION - Seahawks EXPLODE for 37 points to beat Browns with major roster decisions looming Aug 25, 2024

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks put together an all-around performance in beating the Cleveland Browns 37-33 Saturday night at Lumen Field in Seattle.

It wasn't always pretty, but for a team ready to usher in a new era behind first-time head coach Mike Macdonald, you didn't have to look hard to find enough positives to take away from this game.

Now, as the final cutdown to the 53-man roster limit looms over the next 24-48 hours, the team faces some tough depth chart decisions.

Who stood out tonight and helped their chances of making the cut?

How ready is this team to face the Denver Broncos in two weeks to open the 2024 NFL season?

Tune in to find out my thoughts - and bring your comments, takes and questions with you!

Seahawks ACQUIRE ILB Michael Barrett from the Panthers Aug 23, 2024

Show notes

With only one ILB on the roster currently signed beyond the 2024 season, the Seahawks moved to add another potential long-term answer at that position today - acquiring former Michigan Wolverine Michael Barrett from the Carolina Panthers.

Barrett was a productive player for the national champions, and the winningest player in UM history before being selected in the 7th round by the Panthers in April. Now, he'll be trying to get up to speed and fit into the a revamped Hawks LB group.

The Panthers receive veteran CB Michael Jackson in the deal.

How does this impact Seattle's roster? Stay tuned, because in this episode I'll also unveil my latest 53-man roster projection.

Seahawks make ANOTHER trade - sending OLB Darrell Taylor to Chicago for a draft pick (RAPID REACTION) Aug 23, 2024

Show notes

One day after acquiring Michael Barrett from the Carolina Panthers, the Seattle Seahawks made another roster decision on defense this morning, sending OLB Darrell Taylor to the Chicago Bears for a 2025 6th round pick.

A 2nd round draft pick in 2020, Taylor registered 21.5 sacks during his career but continued struggles against the run pushed him down the Seahawks depth chart.

How does this impact the roster as a whole, the salary cap, and the OLB position group?

Tune in to find out!
