379: Seattle Seahawks 2022 Season Expectations Aug 05, 2022

Show notes

The 2022 season has arrived! However, with the departure of Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner in the offseason, the expectations for this team have decreased significantly. But will this team finish among the worst in the NFL even with the loss of talent? We'll talk about who has the lead for the starting QB job as training camp gets underway and how the coaching staff should approach the competition. No matter who starts behind center, can the passing game be effective enough to allow the running game to be productive?

Considering the offseason changes made to the team, there are greater expectations for the defense to improve. But what position group does the success of the entire team rest upon? Is it the defensive line that lost three of their top pass rushers from last season? The linebacker group now that Bobby Wagner has left? Or is it the secondary with the strength at safety, but questions at corner?

We also take a look at some of the latest news around the NFC West as Trey Lance was named starter for the Niners. The Rams have questions at quarterback with Matt Stafford suffering through elbow pain in the preseason. Arizona also has their share of drama at QB with the details of the Kyler Murray contract coming out this past week.

Closing the show, the judge who came up with a six-game suspension for Deshaun Watson makes us question the decision based on the findings of the evidence she reviewed. The last couple weeks also showed how many teams could do something the Seahawks couldn't this offseason. Better at life honors go to a USA Today reporter for covering the latest Russell Wilson meme and to a pair of Seahawks who recently retired.

From the podium: DK Metcalf explains why he wanted to stay in Seattle Aug 02, 2022

Show notes

On Thursday last week, DK Metcalf agreed to a 3-year contract extension to stay with the Seattle Seahawks. But based on why he wanted to stay in Seattle, does that mean we can expect an even longer Seahawks career for DK? After the deal was inked, head coach Pete Carroll, general manager John Schneider, and DK sat down with reporters to talk about the journey to this point and expectations ahead for the standout receiver.

Big Announcement: An Entire Lineup of Shows for 2022 Jul 30, 2022

Show notes

As we go into our 10th season of the podcast, we're making some big changes to the lineup! Live post-game reaction shows are coming back this year and we have a plan for daily shows throughout the week. Tune in and hear the full lineup of shows and we'll be talking about it more in an upcoming episode.

378: Los Angeles Rams - Know Your Rival 2022 Jul 26, 2022

Show notes

In the final week of our Know Your Rival series for 2022, we take our time trying to work up the interest in talking about this particular rival. The Los Angeles Rams caught so many big breaks throughout the post-season last year that it still is difficult to talk about this upcoming year without thinking back to the previous season. Plus, we have to consider that they should earn a similar curse for signing our future Hall of Fame linebacker.

Not only did the Rams pay a former Seahawks star, they paid just about everyone who was primarily responsible for the big year last season. Matt Stafford, Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp all got paid this offseason. We discuss which contract has the bigger chance to ultimately hurt the franchise. One could argue, though, that those contracts are already hurting the team and their chances at a possible repeat. Losing solid starters on the offensive line, defensive line, in the secondary and on special teams all have the ability to close whatever margin that allowed them to overcome close games in the playoffs last year. Maybe it even allows the Seahawks to finally turn the tables on the Sean McVay coached team.

In the second half of the show, we talk how the Arizona Cardinals put off signing Kyler Murray for a week. It kept us from discussing how terrible of a move it really is on last week's rival episode. Seahawks fans in Germany aren't getting enough credit for causing the spike in demand that has prices skyrocketing for the game against Tampa Bay this season. But did any Sea Hawkers in the area get tickets? We get into other nonsense like bananas, robots and must see 80s movies for the family. The Madden franchise dominates our Do Better segment, and Better at Life honors go to new space technology and a Hall of Fame quarterback.

377: San Francisco 49ers - Know Your Rival 2022 Jul 19, 2022

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks dominance over the 49ers is not a recent phenomenon. Seattle has owned the Niners since coming into the division in 2002. Although, their stake in ownership really didn't begin until the 2003 season. Since that time, they've beaten the Niners twice in a season on 11 occasions (compared to the 3 years for their rival). One thing the Niners have going for them is a very talented front seven on defense. However, they have similar questions as the Seahawks with regard to offensive line and cornerback.

Much like Seattle, the Niners have questions of their own at quarterback. One big one in particular: Why is Handsome Jimmy still on their roster? Is it because of reports of Trey Lance arm fatigue? Is it because the organization feels they're in a Super Bowl window and don't want to risk handing the keys to an unproven quarterback? When the Chiefs were ready to move on from Alex Smith, a trade was in place even before free agency started that offseason. Would Seattle be a possible destination to consider for Jimmy?

Following the predictions for the Niners 2022 season, we take a look at one of the recent quotes by Russell Wilson. Will he be able to flip the switch this year? Especially since it's a switch that should really be on all the time. We get into a random discussion about the SAW score for a Montana bison. Then in Do Better we call out the Montana Department of Transportation as well as Mars, Inc. Better at Life honors go to Jake Plummer and DK Metcalf.

376: Arizona Cardinals - Know Your Rival 2022 Jul 08, 2022

Show notes

The Arizona Cardinals offseason has been filled with drama. Kyler Murray made it clear that he wants a new contract, starting center Rodney Hudson is threatening retirement, and DeAndre Hopkins was suspended for violating the PED rules. Not to mention that tragedy even struck the organization this past May. All of this endangers a historic pattern that says the Cardinals will finish first in the division this season.

We take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Cardinals roster, go through their 2022 schedule and make a prediction for their final record, and look at how much cap space they have to attempt to improve any areas of the roster where they could use help.

Also, we discuss some quarterback news. Baker Mayfield has been traded to the Carolina Panthers ending the speculation that he could supplant Drew Lock or Geno Smith in Seattle. Before that move, Lock was trending on Twitter after a Seahawks fan took on the sport of Tennis. The Seahawks get called out in Do Better along with an article suggesting the redirection of a major U.S. river. Better at life honors go to a Washington Post reporter and to retired baseball player Bobby Bonilla.
