463: Hawkpocalypse 3 - Seahawks GM's Third Massive Roster Shakeup Mar 31, 2025

Show notes

Prior to this offseason, General Manager John Schneider presided over two major shakeups of the Seahawks post-Super Bowl roster. We've referred to these as a 'Hawkpocalypse' due to their significance. Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett all left in 2018. Then two franchise cornerstones in Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner left in 2022. This offseason seems to close the book on some remaining pillars of the Pete Carroll era: Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Geno Smith. But does this shift seem as dire as the previous two, or is it a strategy to be celebrated? Will Schneider's move to bring in Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling be able to fill the holes that were created in the roster? Even if they don't, we should expect the improvements on defense will help carry the 2025 Seahawks.

In the second half of the show, we talk about some dream scenarios and nightmare scenarios for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Could a dream interior lineman fall into the Seahawks lap, or will they move up to draft a quarterback or even stay put to take another running back? This week, a writer at the Sporting News and a Discord hacker need to 'Do Better.' Better at life honors go out to a diner in Oregon and Sam Darnold's prolific Reddit fanclub.

On Wednesday, we saw the release of contract details for Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Lawrence. We explore the details of each contract structure and if the money could have been spent on other parts of the team. Teven Jenkins visited Seattle as a potential option at guard and he ended up signing in Cleveland for an incredibly low number. Should we expect a surprise on draft day? We discuss a few players and position groups that would be surprising if the Seahawks stay put with their first section.

What Could the Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp Contracts Look Like? Mar 23, 2025

Show notes

We're nearing a full week after both Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp were in Seattle to sign their new contracts. Yet we're still waiting on a lot of key details. The only details missing from the Darnold contract are essentially how many void years may be part of the deal. We talk about the evidence that we'll likely see two years and how it could impact the cap numbers. There is a lot unknown about the Kupp contract, so there is a lot more speculation there and where the guarantees could like to where it could be favorable for both the Seahawks and for Kupp. Plus, we take a look at who is left in the guard market as we close in on the 2025 NFL Draft.

Is John Schneider a Mad Genius or Mad Lucky? Mar 22, 2025

Show notes

In spite of a March Madness tournament in full swing, our focus remains on the Seahawks as recent signings, potential draft strategies, and the implications of losing key players like DK Metcalf, Geno Smith and Tyler Lockett continue to be explored. Were John Schneider's moves were part of a master plan or simply a reaction to the current state of the team? Even with a lack of offensive line moves, John Schneider has had his busiest off-season since 2011. While it's possible that he's just reacting to moves outside of his control, he discuss whether that is actually the case.

Seahawks Boost Defensive Line, Whiff on Offensive Line Mar 13, 2025

Show notes

It's the start of the new league year for the NFL and that means free agency is officially underway. Although it feels like the Seahawks completely whiffed in losing Will Fries to the Minnesota Vikings, Josh Jones offers a potential upgrade over George Fant and Stone Forsythe - a new member of the Giants. A couple different options remain, but there are some questions surrounding the toughness and scheme fit of those two players. The Seahawks defense got a boost with the signing of DeMarcus Lawrence. His contract numbers look steep initially, but once we see the breakout by year it's likely this is going to be a team friendly deal. Marquez Valdes-Scantling joins the Seahawks wide receiver room. We discuss how he'll help to fill the void left behind by DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
