    Scaredy Chat

Are you afraid of the dark? Did Mars Attacks give you night terrors? Are you afraid of getting into your car alone at night? Or having to plan a perfect work party for 300 people with your job on the line? No one is perfect, well maybe Beyonce. But even as adults there is still plenty to be afraid of, from the rational to the irrational. Some of our fears stem from our childhood, and some of them we pick up along the way. Let Monica Suriyage (VICE, Refinery29, E! News) and Kaitlin Reilly (Bustle, Refinery29, The Dipp) be your sympathetic guides to exploring the fears that won’t seem to vacate your head. Part best friend therapist, part lovers of fear itself, these two will probe deep into the minds of their guests to unearth the roots of the founded and unfounded fears that we hold so close.

What better way to kick off Spooky Season than to spend time with celebrated Fangoria editor Phil Nobile, who dispels the myth that if you do in your dreams you die in real life. What? And how 30-second PSAs can be scarier than any horror movie, how Swedish death cleaners are the real deal, and he gives Monica and Kaitlin a great idea for their next movie - Shovel Buddies (don't ask).

Katie Marovitch Is Afraid of Basements Aug 30, 2021
    Show notes

The actress and writer Katie Marovitch grew up just above her biggest fear - the basement! Yipes. In this episode, Marovitch, who calls herself "a little creep," tells Monica and Kaitlin why bad horror movies are usually the best of all, and why the right amount of movie gore can be part of a healthy movie diet. But why should we believe someone who also calls herself "a huge liar?"

High Camp, or Terrifying Nightmare? It's a fine line, explains Tarik Davis, about the deeply weird HBO horror classic short "Recorded Live," which Davis watched as a child and still is haunted by. Davis is an actor and writer who appears on the Amber Ruffin Show, and performs with Freestyle Love Supreme. He's gotten around, but as he tells Monica and Kaitlin this week, he still can't get over fears of being eaten alive by rolls of film.
