Speaking on Business: Cheryl's Bagels Jul 23, 2026
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Founded in 2020, Cheryl’s Bagels brings authentic East Coast bagels to Utah through its brick-and-mortar storefront in Bountiful. Every day, the team serves handcrafted bagels made fresh using traditional methods and time-honored recipes. Founder, Cheryl Mignone, joins us with more. Cheryl Mignone: I started making bagels because I couldn’t find the East Coast-style bagels I grew up with. What began as a personal mission turned into a business built on tradition, quality and connection. At Cheryl’s every bagel is rolled, kettle-boiled and baked fresh each morning — never day-old. We make our sandwiches fresh to order, serve house-made cream cheeses, cater special events and focus on delivering a great experience with every visit. Our purpose goes beyond the food. We strive to be a neighborhood gathering place where customers feel welcomed, recognized and appreciated. Whether it’s a busy commuter grabbing breakfast, a family enjoying a weekend tradition or friends meeting over coffee, we believe small businesses help create stronger communities. Our goal is simple: share authentic East Coast bagels and create places where people connect, one bagel at a time. To learn more visit CherylsBagels.com. Derek Miller: Small businesses help make Utah’s communities stronger by creating local jobs, supporting families and bringing people together. Through a focus on quality, service and community, Cheryl’s Bagels continues to build meaningful connections and contribute to the places its customers call home. Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. For more than 50 years, the Utah Transit Authority has connected Utahns to work, school and everyday destinations. It continues to help strengthen communities across the Wasatch Front through safe, reliable public transportation. Events and Sponsorship Strategist, Marina Riddle, joins us with more. Marina Riddle: At the Utah Transit Authority, we are focused on connecting people to opportunity. Every day, UTA provides safe, reliable and affordable transportation that supports our economy, strengthens communities and improves quality of life across the Wasatch Front. Our mission is simple: We Move You. We move employees to jobs, students to school, customers to businesses and families to parks, concerts and sporting events — all while reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. UTA also helps move Utah’s economy forward. A recent study found that for every dollar invested in UTA, our community receives $5.11 back in economic return. And that positive impact benefits all Utahn’s, whether you ride transit or not. As we look ahead, we remain focused on improving our system to better serve our customers and communities. Learn more and plan your trip at rideUTA.com. Derek Miller: UTA is helping keep Utah’s economy moving forward every day. Speaking on Business: Roots Coffee Jul 20, 2026
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Opened in 2021, Roots Coffee & Co. has lived by its motto, “People First, Coffee Second,” creating an experience centered on meaningful connections, exceptional customer service and great coffee. Owner, Kenzie Packard, joins us with more. Kenzie Packard: Building a business has taught us that success has very little to do with what you’re selling and everything to do with how you make people feel. Since opening five years ago, we’ve grown to three locations and recently expanded into wholesale, but that growth isn’t what we’re most proud of. What we’re most proud of is the community that we’ve built. We’ve always believed that if you’re fortunate enough to grow, you should put the ladder back down and help someone else climb it. That’s why we love partnering with local businesses, cheering on other entrepreneurs and creating genuine relationships. We truly believe there’s enough room for all of us to succeed. Coffee has never been the end goal. It’s simply what brings people through our doors. But what really matters is that people leave feeling seen, remembered, encouraged or like they belong. If we’ve done that, then we’ve done exactly what we set out to do. Derek Miller: Roots Coffee & Co. has built a welcoming space where every cup of coffee and conversation helps bring the community together. To learn more visit RootsCoffeeUtah.com. This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Based in Riverton and serving Salt Lake County, Legacy Sprinklers specializes in sprinkler repair, irrigation diagnostics and system maintenance. Their team focuses on identifying problems, providing reliable service and offering clear recommendations. Owner, Tyler Davis, joins us with more. Tyler Davis: Most landscaping companies treat sprinklers as an afterthought. It’s one service on a long list and it shows. At Legacy Sprinklers, irrigation is literally all we do. We don’t mow lawns, we don’t plant flowers. We fix, maintain and optimize sprinkler systems and we do it better because it’s our only focus. We serve homeowners across Salt Lake and Utah Counties, and in just our first full season we became the top-ranked sprinkler repair company in all of Salt Lake County. This year, we were honored with the Best of SLC 2026 Gold recognition in Sprinklers and Irrigation. When your irrigation system has a leak, a broken sprinkler head, a faulty valve or even a controller that isn’t working properly, you don’t need a generalist. You need a specialist. That’s what Legacy Sprinklers does. Your lawn is our legacy. Call or text 385-483-4402 or visit LegacySprinklers.com to schedule today. Derek Miller: Legacy Sprinklers continues to provide an important service for Utah homeowners, helping keep lawns and landscapes healthy while using water wisely. This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. For decades, the Family Support Center has been helping Utahns navigate life’s challenges. Through crisis care, family support programs, parenting resources and more they provide the tools and support families need to thrive. Executive Director, Lori Cox, joins us with more. Lori Cox: At the Family Support Center, we see what can happen when people are given support, tools and opportunities to strengthen their families' journey. The Family Support Center’s PERKS program, free nurseries and LifeStart Village exist so families don’t have to face hard moments alone. But none of this happens without community support. When you give, volunteer, refer someone you love or simply share our mission, you help strengthen families and prevent child abuse. Visit us at FamilySupportCenter.org to see ways you can get involved. Speaking on Business: Utah Symphony | Utah Opera Jul 15, 2026
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Utah Symphony | Utah Opera brings live orchestral music and opera to communities across the state. Through concerts, productions and education programs, they share powerful performances that connect and inspire audiences. President and CEO, Steven Brosvik, joins us with more. Steven Brosvik: Utah Symphony | Utah Opera is one of Utah's greatest cultural treasures and the talent on our stage is among the most elite in the world. We all know how rare it is for athletes to make a professional sports team — only one percent earn that honor. But consider this: just one-tenth of one percent of musicians ever win a position with a major orchestra like ours. We’re one of the nation's preeminent orchestras and top regional opera companies, presenting nearly 400 performances and education events each year to approximately 400,000 people across the state of Utah. Our home venues are in Salt Lake and Park City — but as Utah's cultural ambassador, we travel to schools, outdoor stages and community gathering places throughout the state. We’re a service organization and our service is through live music — as educators, entertainers, community partners and conveners. Our mission, in all that we do, is to connect our community through great live music. Derek Miller: By bringing world-class music and opera to stages across the state, Utah Symphony | Utah Opera enriches communities and inspires audiences. Learn more about their upcoming performances and programs at USUO.org. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. Originally aired: 7/13/26
